I am sharing our family's direct experience with William Ausman and 805 Law Group to help future clients make an informed decision. We paid this firm $48,213.10 to handle an urgent family law and pension dispute for my husband, who was battling Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.During our initial consultation, the Client Services Coordinator, Roxane, specifically questioned us about our income, whether we owned our home, and our mortgage details. I stated I would be funding the legal fees with my credit cards; although she later emailed me a guarantor form, I never signed it or agreed to it. Despite this, the firm secretly slipped a predatory clause into the fee agreement anyway, stating that if my husband fell behind on his bill, they would place a lien directly on our house.Due to severe communication issues and massive staff turnover within the firm, our case went stagnant for months. Instead of resolving our crisis, we faced extreme pressure to sign an adverse financial liquidation structure that would have triggered a severe, immediate tax liability for my terminally ill husband, leaving him with almost nothing to live on.Because of this treatment, we initiated formal Mandatory Fee Arbitration through the San Luis Obispo Bar Association (File No. 305). On May 4, 2026, a panel of three independent arbitrators issued a unanimous, signed ruling against William Ausman.The panel's official legal findings concluded that:Mr. Ausman's Fee Agreement was an unconscionable "contract of adhesion" and ruled the entire contract VOID.The hidden property lien clause was an unconscionable tactic used as an illegal threat (in terrorem) against a vulnerable client.The agreement illegally attempted to charge an 18% annual interest rate, explicitly violating Article XV, Section 1 of the California Constitution.Under Rule of Professional Conduct 1.5, the fees charged were determined to be entirely excessive for the results obtained.A 40-year veteran arbitrator on the panel described the firm's billing logs as "classic overbilling mechanics"--citing duplicative billing and charging premium attorney rates for basic secretarial work.The Bar Association stripped away his bills and formally ordered William D. Communication with this group could be better I found out from checking my calendar that Cindy would be attending my court date via zoom. This review is quite a bit overdue -- based on my own person experience with Bill Ausman's office as well as my experience watching him through my position as a Family Court advocate. My high profile child custody case spanned from 2009 - 2014 and received international media attention. During this time, I acted as my own attorney. At a particularly desperate time in my case, I was appealing to various family law attorneys in the area -- hoping that someone would take my case pro bono in exchange for publicity. I emailed Bill on March 19, 2013 to see if he would consider taking my case pro bono. Bill immediately responded and offered a time/date to meet just a few days later. I responded to him accepting his offer but reiterating that I had no money to pay him and that I wanted to be very honest and upfront about that fact. Bill responded and asked me to come into his office anyway knowing my financial situation in advance. Within 30 minutes of me being in his office on March 21, 2013, I immediately felt uncomfortable. Mr. Ausman leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms with a creepy grin (used car salesman-esque) and said..."what type of arrangement do you think we can work out?" I was not sure what he was implying but I felt very uncomfortable in that moment. I reiterated that I did not have financial resources and Bill looked amused by my reaction. I left his office shortly after -- wanting to take a hot shower. In a follow up email, Mr. Ausman stated, "Unfortunately my secretary has recently had to take some time off to care for her family. In addition I am leaving next week for my long planned family vacation. Thus with a brisk business and staff covering for each other I just don't have the proper time to devote to your case at this time." I sent my fiance to retrieve my court documents that day as I did not want to set foot in his office again. In my opinion, Mr. Ausman reviewed my court case prior to me going into his office and he knew the date of my court trial -- he knew that he had a vacation planned and that he was short staffed (although his receptionist was there when I was in his office). I wonder why he wasted my time and his own...and I question what arrangements he was interested in. read more

My initial meeting with Mr. Bill Ausman was productive and left me appreciating the empathy and sympathy that had been lacking in a 5 year complicated Family Law case that had me attached through on going and unnecessary discovery. Mr. Liceaga and Mr. Neus were phenomenal in advocating for me. Although, the cost is on the high end the cost/ benefit is peace of mind knowing that someone is on my side looking out for me. Bill is a LIAR. He told a police office that I had a gun and I was going to be bringing it to his office. I never told him this. I contacted the police officer and he told me this. I have a case number From Atascardero PD. I am going to report this to the proper authorities, as well as to the California bar association. This has me so upset, scared, and sad. Worst law firm we've dealt with. Needed to file a second adoption paper. Attorney Ramey said it probably wouldn't cost more than 1300 most likely 1000. He had just done a divorce for 1300. So he says but now I don't believe it. He did say it was also something we could do by ourselves. For us 1000 was reasonable to file a few papers with the court since we didn't have time. We ended up miscarrying the baby and canceled services. They ended up charging us just shy of 2000 bucks for the little bit they had done. A big difference from the 1000 - 1300. I asked them through their portal why those charges were on there and no reply. I called their office several times and nobody called us back, just sent us the invoice. We paid it and I'm sure they knew we would because it would cost more to fight it. Disappointed with them. Would have gone back again now that we are pregnant again had they not screwed us over. Like with any lawyer, you need to set guidelines, limits, and have an open dialogue at all times. Accordingly, he handles very complex and emotional cases; people will naturally overreact to any slight. That being said, I had a wonderful experience with Mr. Ausman and his team. This lawyer is a rip off!! They changed staff several times and did not inform me. I met 2 different attorneys by accident while being in the office and was charged both times. I had a very easy and simple seperation with no assets, no property, no minor kids, etc. I paid $6000 and nothing was done, I was disrespected by staff, constantly charged for nothing. I told them to stop charging me and contacting me while I was sick with covid and they continued. In the end they STOLE my $6000 and never did the seperation!!! I got screwed.
