The potential causes were straightforward: a motherboard issue, a processor failure, a video card malfunction, a memory problem, or a software error. These are finite, testable components. Any competent technician should be able to isolate the problem systematically. Instead, the shop kept my computer for approximately five days without providing meaningful updates. Each time I called, I was told only that they would contact me when their "evaluation" was complete. After four days of silence, I went to the shop in person. The technician then delivered a long, meandering explanation describing how he had run test after test without being able to determine the cause of the failure. His explanation was not overtly patronizing, but it came close--and it certainly did not inspire confidence. Computers are not mysterious or infinitely complex machines. They consist of a small number of critical components, each of which can be tested individually. It should not take four days to determine whether a part is functioning or not. The inability to diagnose the problem after such an extended period suggests either a lack of expertise or a lack of diligence. During this conversation, the technician began hinting--astonishingly--that my "best option" might be to purchase an entirely new computer. This suggestion was absurd. The system I own is powerful, expensive, and designed for demanding tasks such as writing and flight simulation. Replacing it today would cost approximately $6,000. Recommending a full replacement rather than identifying a faulty component is not only irresponsible but irrational. Even more troubling was the technician's additional suggestion: that I should purchase a computer from a big‑box store, use it temporarily, and then return it once my own system was repaired. In other words, he advised me to commit return fraud. That a professional technician would propose such an unethical course of action is astonishing and deeply concerning. To be clear, no one at the shop was overtly rude to me. However, the dismissiveness, the lack of communication, and the passive‑aggressive "we'll call you when we decide something" attitude created an experience that was frustrating and unprofessional. Other reviewers have described the owner as rude; I did not encounter rudeness, but I did encounter a business that seems strangely out of touch with the expectations of modern customer service. It felt as though they operated in a bubble where time, communication, and accountability were optional. For these reasons, I give this shop zero stars. I will not return, and I strongly advise others to seek computer repair services elsewhere in Kona. There are many reputable businesses in the area, and choosing one of them will likely save you considerable time, frustration, and unnecessary expense. I will close by noting that I took my computer to a different repair shop immediately afterward. The technician there listened carefully, understood the issue, and told me he would determine the cause and call me either later that afternoon or the next day. I tried building a computer but it wouldn't boot, I dropped it off and they fixed it real quick. I had an iMac that was having display issues. The estimate was higher than my budget so I asked them to find it a good home. Then I had a software issue (technically bios) and everything was fine. They fixed it! But then there was a hardware issue. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's been more than 6 months. Last time I asked for an update, I got no callback. No fix, no fee, but what about when it's been 6+ months and no contact since October? Upgraded to a new WIN 11 based desktop, purchased from Costco, from an older WIN 10 desktop tower. Was apprehensive as our former computer provider and support business shut down and left for the mainland and we had limited experience with 808 Computers. However, no problem! The 808 staff migrated all our applications and data to the new box (it is so much faster) without a single glitch. Everything is working as it should once I put the system back together. They have a "fixed" price for this type of service that, given how well they performed, is worth every dollar. And, none of this "you need this or that extra hardware/software" stuff. Ruskin and his associate Joe took on the challenge of extracting data from an ancient 250MB iOmega desktop drive. They found it to be more effort than it was worth, with uncertain results. They agreed to recycle the device and did not charge anything for their investigation. That's apparently their policy: No charge if they can't solve the problem. Generous. Professional. Compassionate. Patient. We are visiting and I forgot the power plug cable for my charging unit at home. I was trying to find someone who had the just the plug portion as I did not want to buy then entire unit. I asked many people and searched for someone who had the part without success. All the recommendations were fruitless. I had run out of options when someone recommended 808 Computers. I went to the shop hoping they would have the correct missing piece. They looked at outlet and sorted through one bin to another coming up with cords that were close, each time it refined where to look next. At last after numerous bins and much time, they found the correct cable. After all that effort and so very grateful to have my vacation saved, I was willing to pay whatever they asked. Absolutely outrageous prices. I took my pc in a year ago for a failed cooling system and paid just over $260 which was responsible. A family member of mine just took theirs in last week for the exact same issue and paid over $520. Called and asked why there was such a massive price increase and was told that prices went up by 30% at the beginning of the year. Ok, that should have then cost just under $400 and not over $500. There was also extremely confusing communication. When the pc was dropped off we were told they had the parts. Then the next day they said they were waiting on parts. My Wi-Fi and Bluetooth adapters had failed to open (even though they were functioning according to my device manager). Even the Wi-Fi and mobile hotspot icons were not visible in my taskbar. Despite trying several fixes suggested from various computer help websites, nothing worked. With just two days home between mainland trips, I was desperate to get a firmware fix before flying back to the mainland. 808 Computers came to the rescue!
