I regularly come to the big island and get my remote work handled very early in the morning and by 9:00 ready to golf and enjoy the island. We spend about 3 months a year here. Bottom line, was on a critical zoom conference and my MacBook Pro would not retain a charge, and switched over to iPad. Wow...smooth system 808 has. Reading other comments I feel bad for some people. I can't believe I've never spilt coffee on my computer until now, but it happened, much like Mark C's review...I took it in to 808 and guess what they informed me that the laptop was toasted and it would be less costly to "just go get a new one and we'll move all the data over for $365". Luckily Costco is right around the corner and even had the Laptop I wanted on sale. They took great care to understate and over deliver in time and customer service and get this, even offered to 'recycle' my old laptop(which I'm actually on as we speak leaving this review). What nice guys, but I told them No thanks, I have a friend back in SC that will give me some $$ for the parts, so I'll take it. With some amazement and hezitation, they couldn't find my laptop and after rummaging around the office for a few minutes said "oh its in the back taken apart still". So I simply said not to worry I'll swing by tomorrow and pick it up after you put it all back together. Now I think they have a system of stealing laptops and charging for the data swap...that is BS. At this point I wonder if they've started selling my personal information around the world and hacking into my bank accounts. These guys should be shut down! The response is great too...none of my computers were Dells. My first was custom built. And as I'm a gamer, the gaming is necessary and I would have waited for the necessary funds. And the computer that 808 did help me pick out was great for gaming. I merely wanted to point out the verbal discrepancies. What was literally said to me concerning my last computer, was asking if I tried to unplug the toaster too. Not the lighthearted joking comment in his response. CUSTOMER BEWARE!! My MacBook was having battery issues and was acting up. Couple of days go by and they say that it was just a software update and that it will cost me 150 dollars, but after that the laptop will be fixed. I picked up my laptop and all works for 24 hours. Then it stops working...again...and no signs of turning on. I call back, they tell me to bring it back and now the owner tells me that it's probably the motherboard and that it will be too expensive to repair and that it's not worth it. I tell them that it's ok, just give me back my laptop and issue me a refund. Days later I find myself with a broken laptop, no refund in sight. Now, every time I call to check on the refund status, they tell me that they're "busy" and surprisingly for days now the owner is "never available". 808 Computers customer service is literally Nonexistent. Protect your family and friends from being robbed like I did. read more

Super smart and helpful group of people at 808 Computers. They can get really busy, but they do their best to accommodate schedules. They do everything from troubleshooting general hardware and software issues on desktop and laptop computers all the way to networking a home or entire office building. They don't charge you for diagnosing the problem. You can just drop by with the computer and explain as best as you can what is going on, and they will check it out and let you know what needs to be done, what it will cost, and whether or not it is even worth fixing in some cases. They are also really good at recovering data from computers, flash drives, and backup hard drives that have crashed/died. If there is any chance of recovering data short of shelling out a few grand for a recovery lab to give it a shot, they can usually pull it off. Lots of small businesses on the Big Island rely on them for IT and network support, and they do a great job of keeping things moving. Highly recommend these guys. read more

These folks are honestly just good. They know what they are doing, and they know how to address your computer disasters. They will often give you advice on tech purchases for nothing, and will give you absolute value for their service. I have been with them for over two years now and they service my organization's 10 computers and support various other networked devices (a smart copier, various back up hard drives, etc.) and I have been very satisfied with their expert knowledge and professionalism. My staff and I are haranguing them all the live long day about various issues on our old computers, many of us calling them probably telling them different things, and they are ALWAYS helpful, and always courteous and have helped us on many occasions above and beyond. They can do souped up hot-rod type computer repairs too. My husband has a computer with a tower as big as Isengard's and is quite persnickety about who he'll let touch it. Robert is what I would call a geeks-geek! He's funny and engaging, never making someone feel stupid or ignorant as so many computer repair people do. This is my second trip to 808 Computers and, like the first trip, it was a complete success. My first experience was an in-call to my house. They were able to diagnose the problem and then make suggestions as to how to beef up my system. I implemented everything they said. Laura was my tech today and she was wonderful and articulate. All she did was turn on my computer and it was working - she didn't do anything else. So....no charge! Now that's the kind of service we should have and expect. These guys are better than good, they're helpful when you need it with out sticking it to you. I had dropped my laptop totally messing up the hard drive. 808 took care of that with a new hard drive etc. and then a couple weeks later the casing to the laptop at the screen started to pull apart. Took it into 808 Computers wondering just how much is this going to cost and can it be fixed at all since the mouse and screen were frozen too. They fixed the case and got the mouse unstuck. They had to epoxy glue it etc. I was bracing myself for the their charge for time and expertise... walked in, showed me what they had done and they did it free of charge!!! They make computer repair simple. I didn't need to schedule an appointment; I just dropped off my computer to have 808 look at it. The first time, my computer was locked up because the malware protection wasn't working. They installed new malware protection and I haven't had a problem since. A year later, I took my computer in for a check-up and to have the malware software renewed. They gave me a description of everything they did as well as how to keep an eye out for possible issues. If I did have a problem, they told me to just give them a call and they'd try to take care of it over the phone. I like that they're open seven days a week and get your computer back to you as soon as possible. There's no "island time," which is very important when they're taking a look at a computer that is crucial for a one-man business. read more

Brought in my MacBook because my lid wasn't closing. These guys immediately checked it out and found my battery had basically exploded in my laptop. They removed the battery and I was on my way. When we first moved here we experienced problems with a laptop. Took it to 808 and they charged us $150 to remove a virus. A few days and we were better. About a month ago my son's laptop began experiencing some troubles so we went to 808 to have it checked out. Having had decent service before I expected the same level this time. A day later I received a call from them saying that the hard drive was bad. This laptop was under warranty with Toshiba so I told the guy I would be sending it back to Toshiba myself to get it fixed. He agreed and later that day I picked it up. I called Toshiba and arranged the repair. I mailed it back and thought all was good. A few days later 808 Computers calls me and says that they had removed the hard drive from our laptop and that they had it there. The guy tells me that they will assume all responsibility and they will contact Toshiba to send them the hard drive separately and at their expense. Toshiba wanted the hard drive put into the laptop before service could be performed so we had to wait until they mailed it all the way back to Hawaii. On the day I received the laptop back I drove straight to 808 Computers to have them put the hard drive back in so that they could mail it back to Toshiba at their own expense. So I expected this to be easy...WRONG. I walked into the store and spoke with the OWNER himself ( I think his name is Robert). He asked what I needed and I told him why I was there. He said OK I will have the other guy handle it and just placed the box on the floor. That was the extent of his interaction with me. No apologies at all for having wasted my time in this matter. I told him I was upset and he didn't care at all. He just said it was a mistake and went back to his business. He didn't seem to care about me or the time wasted (by this time about a week and half had passed). I was looking for an apology...something by way of feeling bad about what had happened. I got ZERO from this guy and he is the owner of the place. I will NEVER go back to this place again. If the owner doesn't need the business I will help him get none. Do yourself a favor and look for a place that actually cares about the customer and not just how much money they make. read more

I recently took my MacBook Air to this company because it would not boot up. They did a diagnostic which took 5 days and then delivered the bad news. The machine needed a new motherboard and it was going to cost $600. There was just something about this place that made me doubt them. This is partly because the guy I spoke to on the phone was defensive and kind of rude. I took a deep breath and said I'd think about it and just went in to pick up my computer. They did not charge me for the diagnostic, which is good. On the other hand, not so good, was they did tell me that if I ended up buying a new computer they could, for $200, transfer the data from my old computer to my new one. I later took the computer to the local Apple store Mac Made Easy. They did a diagnostic which took about 15 minutes and determined that the battery was bad. I have now ordered a battery and am successfully running the computer from the power cord. Cost=$180. They did charge me $60 for the diagnostic, but that money will be applied to the cost of the battery. My final bill will be $120 additional dollars. I see 2 possibilities here.1) 808 Computers didn't know what they were doing and thought I really did need a motherboard 2) Or, they knew the computer needed a battery and planned to replace it, but charge me instead for a motherboard, more than 3 times the money. I don't know which one of these possibilities is correct, but neither one is good. The feeling in the pit of my stomach is they were trying my rip me off. I don't know why I thought it would be a good idea to take my Mac anywhere but an Apple specialist. I won't be making that mistake again. Can't I rate this company 'No Stars'? read more

I've had a great experience with the folks at 808 computers. When I first arrived on the island, I had them wire up an office I rented, installing phone lines, network cabling, etc. They did a great job, completing the job ahead of schedule, and were clean when doing stuff like the drywall cutting, etc. All I had to do to go to work was plug in my phones and computers; everything worked. After the office wiring, I had my mac desktop fail to start. I brought it to 808, and they fixed it right up (had a power button issue). Price was very reasonable, and the turn around was much quicker than I expected. After that, I had a windows 7 laptop get infected with some malware (my fault). I brought it to 808 computers, and they got rid of it, and I lost no data. Like with my mac, the price was in line and the turn around was quick. Very professional. If you're on the big island and have a computer that needs fixing or some wires run/networks set up, the 808 folks are a great resource. Highly recommended. read more
