At 40 years old, this was my very first time at a drive-in movie, and to say I was excited is an understatement! I managed to catch the very last weekend of the season, and both films showing were horror movies. Was it the wisest choice for my first drive-in experience? Probably not. But I couldn't resist checking it out before the fall weather got too chilly--so yes, my very first drive-in movie was The Conjuring: Last Rites. Why not go big? We reserved a parking spot online for $10, which gave us peace of mind even though the lot wasn't full that night (maybe because it was the last day of the season, maybe because it was horror night). Either way, we got an excellent spot just a few rows back from the absolutely massive screen--about 40 ft by 60 ft! I even had to grab a selfie at the base of it to show just how huge it was. Tickets were $10 per person, and since you can bring your own snacks and drinks, it makes for an affordable night out. We did check out the snack bar too, and I was impressed--it had way more than a typical theater: burgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders, and more, all reasonably priced. The bathrooms nearby were well-labeled, lit, and clean. Tuning into the movie on the car radio at 88.7 FM was easy, and one of my favorite parts was the retro intros and national anthem before the movie started. They felt like they had been playing since the theater first opened in 1951--charming, nostalgic, and completely perfect. Settled in with my blanket, the passenger seat heater cranked up, and a big bowl of homemade popcorn and trail mix, I was in drive-in heaven. The movie was fun, but honestly, this review is about the experience, and Cumberland Drive-In delivered everything I could have hoped for. It was easy to find (GPS took us right to it), stress-free, and an unforgettable way to spend a late summer evening. I'll definitely be back next year--though probably for something other than a horror flick. Highly recommend making the trip and experiencing this slice of Americana for yourself!

We reserved our spots ahead of time but found that wouldn't have been necessary. The tickets were cheap enough for all of us to watch 2 new movies and the snack bar was also super cheap. We always try to patronize the snack bars when we go to the drive in since we've found out that's where they are able to earn most of their money. You can bring your own radio or get one from the snack bar. There is a nice grassy area in the front under the screen that kids can play in and everything is pretty relaxed at this drive in. Given it's one of the closer ones to us, we're going to be back again for their next season.

Now if u live where I do or close to the Philly area it's about a 2 hour and a half . But it's def worth the trip. It would be cool, for a family and kids as kids r free 11 and under which is a big savings $$$$$. They have your drive in which late last year in August the price $8 a person . U can't beat it . My girlfriend and her kids and I left early to get there by dusk .Get there early so u can get a good place since u r outside with this massive screen . Plus, I would recommend to bring goodies we had a cooler for drinks and brought snacks and hoagies. But they have a place where they sell the usual movie eats like popcorn, ice cream, hotdogs, corn dogs, drinks. The great thing is it is kinda nostalgic since I remember them in my early teens. And it's so cool to be outside instead of inside a theater and watch several movies for one price. They run the current movies and I also checked out the Midway's snack center which most where with kids buying drinks , popcorn ,,and candy. If you don't mind driving a couple hours, it is worth the trip. I had a blast It was just so much fun . Rocky Horror at an old school drive in? Yes. Absolutely. What I loved most about Haar's is that it actually feels OLD and I mean that as the highest compliment. Don't come here expecting shiny, freshly renovated, modern, or fancy. The age is visible. The snack stand has old menu boards, there are vintage style ads and welcome reels, and the whole place feels like an authentic piece of drive in history. Please never make it sleek and modern. Tickets were only around $10 each online, you tune your car radio to their station for the movie audio, and that's pretty much it. We loaded up the bed of the truck, got cozy and had an absolute blast. The concession prices were pretty reasonable too, especially compared to what you'd pay at a regular movie theater. We ended up leaving after Rocky Horror because Williams Grove Speedway is only a few minutes away and, well... race cars were calling. But I absolutely loved our experience. If you want fancy, this isn't it. If you want nostalgic, quirky, old school drive in charm that actually feels authentic, this is exactly it. Already want to come back for another movie.

There's a reason Bengies has been around for 70 years and still going strong. I've read people mention their rules and I have to say, they're not hard to follow. If you go to someone's house, you should respect all of their rules, no exceptions. All of their policies are listed on their website and it's the responsibility of the patron to read, understand and adhere to them. It keeps it so it's a peaceful environment for everyone. Their food is delicious and affordable compared to any movie theatre. Their entry fee covers double features which is again more affordable than a normal movie theatre. They allow you to make it as enjoyable as possible. I've been there in my pickup truck where I was able to inflate a mattress in the bed of my truck and watch Halloween movies while under a blanket and in my sleeping bag. I've been there in my convertible where I was able to park closer to the front and enjoy the cool summer night. You can bring your own chairs, blankets, small tables, or whatever you need to make it a memorable experience for you and your family. We were a little late, so maybe they explained all the rules beforehand, but we were told basically nothing. They saw us looking confused and didn't offer any type of guidance until we asked (and even then, it was just low energy). The food is self-service unless you want something that you don't see. In that case, you have to request it from them, and they will make it for you. The radios are $10 to rent, and I saw that they also rented lawn chairs and heaters. The quality and sound of the movie were good. It was a double feature, so it ended around 12:15 a.m (it started at 7:30pm). I'm happy I came for the activity (this was my first time attending a drive-in movie), but the workers definitely ruined the experience for me, and I probably won't be returning to this one.

The Imax theater provided a terrific experience, especially for seeing the Christopher Nolan version of The Odyssey. The place is loud, too loud, really -- the biggest strike against it. The ever-rumbling bass in the movie's soundtrack blotted out some actual dialogue. The Odyssey as a movie was terrific. A masculine perspective -- but you did quickly see just what made this story perennially popular. A man must go to war when duty ordains it, even though no one wants to and the object is to get back the wife of another Greek king after she had run off with a young, handsome stranger. Ten years of war and everyone wants to get home ASAP after the victory. But Odysseus chooses a different route and the trouble begins. A great series of challenges unfolds, to make his return to a beloved wife, son and his own kingdom nearly impossible. That is the story, and the yearning for a whole family and a regular life is overpowering. It seems like it just can't happen, and he will be stuck on that desert island with Charlize Theron forever, poor guy. Glad we saw it. But it was a bit too loud. Previews of coming attractions are pitched somewhere near 10,000 decibels. Also, the chairs recline so much they were even a little difficult to climb out of.... But I am not complaining! I appreciate that they have 3D options for movies in addition to standard definition. As far as movie snack prices go, it'll bleed you dry like any movie theatre these days, but honestly it's worth skipping the snacks to see a movie on the big screen if that's an issue (or you can just share one box of candy/popcorn with friends/kids). I am a firm believer in the movie theatre experience (streaming is just not the same) and I am incredibly grateful to have a movie theatre here in Carlisle!
