Went here on Halloween night. Highly recommend getting there early so you can truly choose your spot. Don't forget to read the rules prior. If you don't know how to use the radio without keeping your car on, you can always rent a radio! Tips: bring blankets in case you need to cover your car lights or you just get cold like me

So incredible that the biggest movie theater screen in the US is right here in Maryland! I love the nostalgic feeling of the drive in, that you see the preservation of some of the style and feeling of the 1950's but in a way that continues to bring people in. Getting to the venue was very straightforward and they make their protocols clear which helps you feel prepared and safe. The staff that welcomed us also taught us a hack for turning the car's headlights and taillights off, which was extremely helpful and informative. The system for sound worked well, we brought our own radio but they also rent radios on-site, which I would recommend for those not looking to make the investment. And although we didn't end up buying food, their menu was surprisingly really well priced and we 100% would have if we hadn't eaten beforehand. Overall, such a great experience and sweet place to go!

Been coming here for years and it truly never disappoints. It's just a beautiful way to spend an evening (all year round!! Not just a summer activity). The original cartoons before each film and the old school concession stand adds to the vintage feel that is just so special. They are always showing awesome movies too, usually ones that are still in theaters at the time. The staff take their jobs very seriously and will always make sure that you are acting in a way that is respectful of the other patrons. (I.e. headlights are off, trunk is not too high, you are parked fairly). Bringing a large car will mean you do not get to park right in the center-- but I've parked in many spots and have never had an issue seeing the screen. They also provide radios or heaters depending on the season and are very helpful in making sure you are set up for a successful experience. If your car dies, they of course have plans in place for how to give you a jump. (Bring jumper cables just in case) Go to bengies and support this local gem!

I cannot believe it's been 4 years since my last review on Bengie's! Went last night with my boyfriend and had an overall pretty good experience. We got there early (6:45 pm) and the ticket booth doesn't open until 7:15 pm. I believe we were the 3rd vehicle. It was a bit annoying because all the cars had to move a lane over since that's where the register was located but there are no signs to indicate that. We came in and chose one of the recommended spots (close to the concession stand as well). The food was only average. A foot long hot dog is actually pretty small and the nacho chips tasted pretty stale. I would maybe try a burger next time instead. Outside food and beverages are not permitted unless you decide to pay a permit fee that allows you too (in my opinion not worth it). Review on the bathrooms, they are much cleaner than the last time I came. They've even installed and hand dryer machine. I will say though it would be nice if they updated it but kept a vintage look. Finally, we saw a quiet place and mad max last night. The movies weren't terrible but they both dragged out for a LONG TIME. A quiet place was already a soft spoken film since they're all whispering so listening to that on a speaker was challenging. Still, Bengie's is a cool place to visit at least once. I think it's one of our spots for the boyfriend and I because of the pandemic.

Bengies has such a cool atmosphere! It seriously feels like stepping back in time. The whole place gives off those old-school, pre 2000s vibes, and the nostalgia is real. The food wasn't anything to write home about, but honestly the overall experience made up for it. Only thing I'd say is that some of the rules were a little confusing at times but nothing major. I'd still give it a solid 5/5. My girlfriend and I went together and had an amazing time. I know some people complain about how long it takes to get in from the road, but for us, it was quick and smooth. Definitely a night to remember.

    Flyer given by drive-in

I have been to many drive-in theaters and this by far was the worst customer service. They have so many rules. My running lights were on and I had to pull over to cover them before being let in. They had you a 4 page flyer.1 page is dedicated to the rules many of which will result in expulsion without refund. If you have a bigger vehicle you are forced to park on the side instead of having a certain amount of rows dedicated to cars. On the plus size the screen was big and the movie itself was good.

I still love it here! I've come almost every season for a decade. There's no better movie experience. The concession stand makes me feel like I'm at the fair. I couldn't have watched Barbie in a more perfect way.

This was a great outing, especially during Covid. I miss going to the movies every week, so this was a great substitute. I was nervous because reading the lengthy directions online made the process seem like it would be overwhelming. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to navigate the space. The workers were helpful in giving us string to tie our hatch down to level as well. The food is subpar- definitely fits the 50s vibe, but it did the trick. Id be interested in paying the $15 fee to bring in outdoor food in the future. Be prepared to be up all night, especially for summer movies that don't start until it is dark at 9pm. We left at 1:30am, and the second movie was still on!

I'll always enjoy a good drive-in. No matter the weather, I'll be there. They are currently back at 100% capacity and I can definitely tell the difference with cars being parked so closely. Due to the rain, less people relieving their car is during the movie so with intermission came, there was an even bigger dash to grab snacks and use the bathroom which of course made it really crowded. Like most movie theaters, the popcorn is extremely salty. However, unlike other theaters, they refuse to pop it without salt even though after it's popped without salt, it can mixed with the other crazy salty popcorn, IMO. Food selections are what you would find at regular movie theaters with the addition of snowballs, egg rolls and funnel cake! Egg rolls are listed on their menu but they haven't had them the last few times I've been been and funnel cake is only offered during intermission. They also have hot chocolate and apple cider. Staff was nice & informative.

Reading & listening is fundamental if you want to have a good experience at Bengies. To that end, I have never seen so much signage in one establishment in my entire life. & that source of informative insight is separate from the drawn-out phone recordings & website. Again, all necessary for an "easy" & enjoyable night at the Drive-In. With full transparency, I've never heard of Bengies & only came here by getting passes to the Michael B. Jordan's/Amazon "A Night at the Drive-In. Patrons were treated to a complimentary Goodie Box consisting of Popcorn & Double Chocolate Cookies (both Vegan) & purified water in a refillable bottle. The movie lineup highlights films about people of color: July 15: "Black Panther" and "Creed" July 29: "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" and "Hook." Aug. 12: "Do the Right Thing" and "Get Out." Aug. 26: "Coming to America" and "Girls Trip" To Know: -You can bring your own food by paying a $15 Outside Food Permit. -Employees are everywhere you look & don't look from the onset of pulling up, getting to your designated space, going to the Concession Area & etc. -Directions & guidance is pretty straight forward, on a repetitive aspect both verbally & signage wise...not sure if "There is no such thing as a dumb question" applies here. -If you can't turn off your headlights, an employee will tape a piece of cardboard/brown paper to your headlights. -If you can't turn off your automatic headlights, you'll get a quick lesson on how to engage your parking brake to turn them off. Your engine must be off before you apply the parking brake for this to work. -Radios can be rented & they will require to hold a current & valid license & registration, the latter must match the vehicle you came in. -Radio Station is 105.3 FM or AM 830. My issue was my keyless on/off function & having to tap it back on, as the ACC position only last 10-15 minutes. Leaving the engine running for obvious reasons is not an option. -Parking attendants are present to lend assistance & may have too much caffeine during their breaks, yet all good. -If you are in a vehicle that is not a sedan of any sort, you will be directed to park in the SUV area, with no exceptions. Extra caution if you plan to open up your tailgate. -The Box Office opens at 7:00 PM & closes at 10:30 PM with the theater operating rain or shine. -Their motto I believe is "Did you know that Common Sense prevails." Overall, Bengies did a good job by strictly enforcing the pandemic rules & regulations to ensure people are doing their part to safely engage in an outdoor environment. Same as with the Concession Area as the rules & expectations are kindly re-enforced. Although I purchased the Food Permit, I did pick up a few treats & was reminded that they only take exact cash or a Visa/MC credit card, AMEX is a no go. B+ for nostalgic sakes, & predicated that there are movies I want to see in the future I may be back.

Had a great time at a Yelp Elite/ Amazon event! Took my nieces to see Coming to America for the first time :p At "registration" i was told/shown how to disable my running lights (put the break bar up and stop at 1 click). I was able to listen to the audio by putting my car in the ACC position. I did recieve "a battery discharge warning" about every 15 minutes on my car dashboard during the movie but I literally started my car at least once an hour to make sure the battery didn't drain. I was all good!! Others were able to block their lights with a blanket or something of the sort. We arrived @730p and still was able to get pretty good seating. Parked behind another car with no issues with seeing the screen. Sound was good. Movie screen was good! The snack line was controlled by 6 feet social distancing markers on the ground and an employee along the line and once you entered the snack area to control the flow. We had to wait for many of our sandwhiches outside. We were told to hold onto our receipt and when the food item was called get it outside from the person calling out what was now avail. I had the White Cheeseburger, so good!!! Kids enjoyed their pulled pork sandwhiches and mozzarella sticks. Medium sodas were more than enough. Bathrooms are located on both sides of the snack area (Women's bathroom is at the entrance to the snack bar and men's is on the other side of the building) Only issue I had was trying to back out of my spot after the first feature. Ppl would just not let me out. I was on the backline in front of the snack bar. Would be nice if there was some sort of person controlling the traffic to let the backrow exit every few minutes. There is a bit of a wait too to exit the theatre onto Eastern Blvd. Had a great time, thanks for the invite!

Take a deep breath, because you're about to experience a blast of pure nostalgia! The Bengies Drive-In Theater is like taking a time machine back to a different era of movie watching (minus the all digital projection). From the beautiful retro marquee sign, to the stunning concession stand, I was transported back to a more romantic time. I read plenty of the reviews on here regarding the rules before attending recently, and found that as long as you follow the rules (minus the pictures of course), you'll have an amazing time. The theater is immaculate. It's very apparent that the owner takes great care of the theater itself, the screen and the facilities. The parking situation was organized and everyone from the front gate employees to the parking attendants, were helpful. Be aware, the owner does love to hear himself talk so when he introduces the first movie he will rant on pretty pointlessly about the rules and random factoids I'm sure no one waiting for the move cares about. The projection was top notch quality but for cinephiles, be aware they do not show 35mm prints. It is an all digital theater. Overall though, I loved this theater and the experience it brings and I cannot wait to go back.

We eventually handed our tix to the attendant and sauntered down one long, clean, postered hallway, and then another offset to the right, all the way back to theater 5. The seats were old and clean, not too-worn, not too-soft, not the modern seats of modern theaters. It's like watching movies in the rec-room of friends you've known all your life,if your friend had a huge screen :-). At 40 years old, this was my very first time at a drive-in movie, and to say I was excited is an understatement! I managed to catch the very last weekend of the season, and both films showing were horror movies. Was it the wisest choice for my first drive-in experience? Probably not. But I couldn't resist checking it out before the fall weather got too chilly--so yes, my very first drive-in movie was The Conjuring: Last Rites. Why not go big? We reserved a parking spot online for $10, which gave us peace of mind even though the lot wasn't full that night (maybe because it was the last day of the season, maybe because it was horror night). Either way, we got an excellent spot just a few rows back from the absolutely massive screen--about 40 ft by 60 ft! I even had to grab a selfie at the base of it to show just how huge it was. Tickets were $10 per person, and since you can bring your own snacks and drinks, it makes for an affordable night out. We did check out the snack bar too, and I was impressed--it had way more than a typical theater: burgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders, and more, all reasonably priced. The bathrooms nearby were well-labeled, lit, and clean. Tuning into the movie on the car radio at 88.7 FM was easy, and one of my favorite parts was the retro intros and national anthem before the movie started. They felt like they had been playing since the theater first opened in 1951--charming, nostalgic, and completely perfect. Settled in with my blanket, the passenger seat heater cranked up, and a big bowl of homemade popcorn and trail mix, I was in drive-in heaven. The movie was fun, but honestly, this review is about the experience, and Cumberland Drive-In delivered everything I could have hoped for. It was easy to find (GPS took us right to it), stress-free, and an unforgettable way to spend a late summer evening. I'll definitely be back next year--though probably for something other than a horror flick. Highly recommend making the trip and experiencing this slice of Americana for yourself!
