I purchased a used set of studio monitors. It was a great deal and they're still working great.

BEWARE BUYING USED GEAR FROM THIS SELLER! My 11 year old son bought a used EVH guitar from this shop which was advertised as being in perfect working condition. Upon arriving at our home in Virginia (hundreds of miles away) I found that the bridge pickup was non-functioning. Dialogued with the seller on what to do to resolve it and they suggested getting a quote locally for repair. I made a special trip to Guitar Center and got a quote for $80 to have it repaired. They offered only $50 as compensation. What??? Pretty lousy that they won't take full responsibility for selling me a defective guitar. And all this after wasting my time dialoguing with them, sending them pictures of the guitar, getting the quote, etc... Because my son got attached to the guitar immediately I'm just going to get it fixed at my expense. What cheap skates and what poor customer service. I'd never advise one of my employees to turn off a customer like this to preserve profit on a single deal. Very short sighted decision. This experience is a huge contrast to the positive experience I had at Russo Music Center in Trenton (check out my review) where the customer service was outstanding. read more

So wait, how are there no reviews for 8th Street Music in its current location? This is where musicians get theirs. Because it's off the beaten track, because it's not near a mall, your experience @ 8th Street will not be that sickly sonic barrage of fret-wankery sound of showboating wannabees. Enough staff for individualized service, but you can also take your time to admire and enjoy the selection. 8th Street additionally does online sales, so while the front of the house is intimate, there's a wondrous array beyond. Talk to them. They know their stuff. You might even luck into a good deal based on a slight cosmetic flaw on an item. One of my enduring favorite ukuleles was purchased from their annual tent sale a few years ago, for an impossible to refuse price. I generally pull for small businesses but after observing my son being treated rudely, we will stick with Sam Ashe and Guitar Center. He was trying out guitars and amps for 15 minutes while working with two, nice younger associates before the person I assume to be a manager came over and rudely asked if he could help us, what were we looking for, etc... before saying we don't really allow people to come in here and touch everything you know, "due to Covid". My basic issue is that when you sell instruments and they are on display, if you don't want things touched, have proper signage, state it clearly when customers enter and at least acknowledge us when we walk in. He provided none of that. We will never return. We've never been treated this way at the big box retailers who aren't too lazy to clean equipment after a customer tries it out. My son is a fledgling musician and we were looking for amps and thinking about a new guitar. They ultimately missed out on the cash Sam Ashe just got because of this nonsense. read more

Fantastic service. The travel guitar I wanted wasn't on display so they went back and got one out of stock. After walking me through the special aspects of the guitar, they left me in a nice acoustic room to try it my hearts content. Dropped in a few times to make sure I did't have any questions but absolutely no pressure. 45 minutes later I walked out with my new guitar. I could have gotten a little cheaper online but prices were competitive and service outstanding. read more

Beware! Don't do business with these guys! I placed an order online for a limited edition guitar and I was sent the wrong guitar, the standard cheaper version. I contacted your establishment by email and Laura was handling it. Her response to settle the issue was very slow and took days of back and forth emails that took hours between replies. After going back and forth with emails she asked me to call her, so I did. We discussed the issues at hand and I offered to buy the cheaper guitar and keep it... In hopes that Laura would continue to track down the guitar that I originally purchased and contact me once it was found so I could purchase it again. She agreed. She told me that the guitar was not in the warehouse and would try to contact the manufacture rep to figure out what happened and where it was, and would contact me as soon as it was found or when they got another one in so I could re-purchase it. I got no updates again for a few weeks so I had to initiate another email. I was told they had no answers and they would need to refund the purchase of the guitar I originally bought. I've never heard back from her again so I have been monitoring their site ever since... and then I noticed the guitar was re-posted at a higher price ($100 more). I emailed Laura hoping that I could now buy the guitar.... she would not honor the original sale price for me and seemed to forget our conversation & agreement and in reality... she never had any intention of calling me back. They just blew me off. So, I then contacted the owner Randy Segal and explained the situation and he shot me down as well. Unbelievable! I can't believe I had to grovel to get what was originally sold to me. I was not asking for anything extra, I just want what I originally ordered and payed for! This is bad business! This store is seemingly in the middle of nowhere. The whole area around there seems like it was razed to make a bunch of corporate offices. It's right down the way from a river and a nice park, and I'm going to wager that unless you're a jogger, fancy picnics or play guitar, it's not an area you just wander into. I normally go on Saturdays and I always feel like a zombie horde is hiding around the corner. (Take NOTE of that, walking dead fanatics!!) It's worth the drive, which isn't too far honestly. They have a really nice selection of stuff, all of which is advertised on their website, and they offer some good deals as well. I've been surprised I found some stuff here I've not seen elsewhere in the area. The staff are pretty nice too and accommodating. It's nice honestly because I remember the staff from the Arch Street store. And those guys sucked, and sucked hard. The ginger guy with the beard who was always behind the counter, but claimed he never worked there and wouldn't give a cable, hipster douche. The black bald shiny headed guy who would pretend he didn't hear you when you'd talk to him and tried to intimidate people cause he had a bit of a build. Jerk off. The young guy who never shut up about Billy Corgan and called everyone "son" who would bitch if you played for more than a few minutes and blab about the gear HE could afford, but you couldn't, A-hole. Yeah, the old place sucked, which makes this place so much better, cause those fools are gone, and what's in it's place are a small staff of people who enjoy musical instruments and make the process much more comfortable and fun. And that's what it should be. FUN!!! The layout is cool, the people are nice, the gear is good. And every year they do a blow out sale where you can find some great stuff for cheap, watch some good bands play, and scarf some bbq. Cool. Cool. Cool. read more

OK, so they really don't seem all that eager about having a retail storefront, but they've shared that it's required in order for them to maintain certain franchises. And yeah, sometimes they seem a little scattered/disorganized. The flip side is that they will leave you alone if you want to try something out and not breathe down your neck. And they will match/beat any price anywhere!!!!! Make sure to check out their website for holiday sales, they will discounted prices that are already very competitive with the bigger Internet guys. Talk to them on the phone, they will be honest about what's in stock and what isn't. And if dealing in person, keep in mind that cash is king. :^) I have bought expensive stuff here, but also got good help finding the best guitar flat pick for my playing style and the proper fitting slide. As someone else noted, they've come a long way from some of the snarky guys sales on Arch Street who were too cool for school. I guess they never learned to drive so can't make it out to Pennsauken. OTOH, they used to have more used trade-ins, but still would rather give them my business than the GC or SA down the road in Cherry Hill, though actually, some of the people in those stores are surprisingly quite decent to deal with. read more

As an online buyer I was pretty scared to buy a guitar but the guys were so very helpful. I ended up getting a Vox Apache that I loved BUT about a week after purchasing the new guitar the electronics began messing up... it was strange. The guys at 8th Street facilitated the return of my guitar and stayed on top of it. I can't tell you how impressed I was with how it was handled and how they were my advocate to the manufacturer. Avoid this company like the plague! They are self serving and dishonest, and will steal your money. I purchased a Marantz Professional Recorder digital recorder from them for over $700, which when I read the specs, does not allow you to pause the recording and then punch in again where you left off, which the salesman told me it would do. I called them to procure an RMA and return the item for a refund. The person who answered told me to call someone named Randy at their storefront. He told me I would have to pay a restocking fee, even though I never plugged the recorder in much less use it. I said that seems unfair, for I'm still within the 30 return period. He then told me to return it directly to the store, instead of their warehouse, and that he would send me an email verifying my credit for $695 + tax. A month went by and I never received a return receipt, much less a credit. When I called, no one knew what I was talking about, and apparently Randy was on vacation. After many calls, a rather mean spirited woman said that the recorder arrived one day beyond the 30 return period, which meant I would have to pay a 20% restocking fee, even though I never used the recorder. Every time I called after that, my call was forwarded to the same woman, who treated me like a criminal and that all of this was my fault. Well, the long and short of it was that they neve refunded or credited one cent of my $729 purchase, nor did they at send the digital recorder back to me. Labeling them as total crooks is putting it mildly... Stay Away From Them at all Cost!!! read more

Horrible service. The sales guy was arrogant and did not like being told that he was wrong on something. Most of the people that they deal with are through internet sales and probably not experienced musicians and luthiers. So usually their lack of knowledge and BS might work but not when you actually know something. Then their lack of knowledge is exposed for what it is. read more

I found a cool little 3/4-sized guitar (the Gretsch Jim Dandy) I really liked in Sam Ash in New York the other day. When I checked prices online, I discovered there were also limited editions in "coral sunburst" (a cranberry red) and a greenish-bluish model that Sam Ash wasn't carrying or had sold out of. (Every single guitar store had the same price for this guitar, $149, except for one that charged the full MSRP.) Most of the reds were gone from every site, but 8th Street had them. I first found it on Amazon, where there was also a $13 shipping charge. Oddly, there was free shipping offered for the same guitar on the 8thstreet.com site. So, I bought it here on Wednesday afternoon. Shortly after I purchased it, I noticed a missed call from Eighth Street Music on my YouMail voicemail. I called, and discovered that somehow my order went through three times (I later found three separate invoices in my email), and they were making sure I hadn't intended to do so. Great save! Then I called back and asked if by any chance they had the case for this guitar, which I was unable to find anywhere. "I think we do. I'll have Paul go check. If we have it, would you like us to wait to ship your guitar so there won't be an additional shipping charge?" Now, this was really cool. As it turns out, they had the case, and they shipped it together. It came this morning (Friday), with the guitar inside the case (with all the various materials and fingerboard cover, etc. still on the guitar) and the case inside the Gretsch box, expertly taped shut. So, great selection, great and THOUGHTFUL customer service, free shipping (if you buy from them directly). As Larry David would say, pretty, pretty, pretty good! I bought a pedal online from these folks that was either lost in the mail or stolen due to the total negligence of the Post Office. I called up to get a serial # so I could file a police report, and they were so unbeleiveably kind and understanding and offered to either replace the pedal or send me a refund. I only went with the refund because I need the item sooner than their next shipment, but I will DEFINITELY be giving these folks my business again! read more

this place may be great for some but they were awful for me. i ordered over 600.00 in music equipment of a friday. they charged me same day. that sunday i got a form email stating product is back ordered, which website did not say or i would not have made the purchase. i wrote back to owner randy that i do not want the product, gave him product codes of what did want, less money even, and no response. i called the store 4 times, they never apologized, never said ok lets get what you want, just told that randy, the owner, would be in wednesday and would deal with it then. he did however have the time to make excuses, blame being short handed, blame me for being upset, never apologized, never solved anything, just blah blah blah. tuesday night randy made his store refund me without even a hey, this is what were doing, then again didnt apologize and blamed me for being upset. this is all documented, this is not how you take care of customers. i am upset, i have every right to be upset. dont ever order from this store! read more
