5 star customer service! When I checked in they had already checked in a guest by accident into our room so they quickly found us a new room and gave us our stay for free for both days we were here. They didn't need to do this and were so generous for doing so. The beds are comfy and bathrooms are luxurious and big. The air conditioning in the rooms feel so nice in the hot summer heat. Yesterday retired NASA scientist Gary Blackwood came to show us his telescopes and we could see the moon craters through it. He used a laser pointer to show us the constellations. Disappointing experience despite a beautiful property The property itself is beautiful, but unfortunately the overall experience left me feeling extremely disappointed and, honestly, taken advantage of. I originally made two reservations due to an overbooking situation, and when I tried to address the duplicate reservation, I felt like the issue was not handled properly. I was eventually given a complimentary breakfast, an upgraded room, and a late checkout as a resolution. Unfortunately, I wasn't actually able to use the late checkout, so that wasn't much of a benefit to me. The biggest issue came after checkout. I was required to put down a $100 deposit, and afterward I discovered that $70 had been deducted. I was not informed beforehand what the $70 charge was for, and I still have not been given a clear explanation or itemization for it. I left the room clean. There was no damage to the property. I used the towels provided during my stay, and I left the breakfast plates on the kitchenette after using the complimentary breakfast. To be charged $70 from a $100 deposit without a clear explanation is extremely frustrating, especially after the issues I already experienced with the reservation. The property itself is nice, but a beautiful property doesn't make up for poor communication and an experience that leaves the guest feeling like they're being nickel and dimed. There was also a very impersonal feeling throughout my stay beautiful surroundings, but not much warmth or hospitality behind it. I really wanted to enjoy this stay, but unfortunately I left feeling more frustrated than relaxed. I would strongly recommend asking about the deposit policy and getting clarification on any potential charges before staying here. Update: I was told the $70 charge was for the $35 day stay fee. If I could give this hotel zero stars, I would. This was a nightmare from start to finish. They are dishonest with their billing, the staff is incredibly rude, and the property is both filthy and completely unsecure. Here is exactly what happened during our stay: 1. Sneaky Billing & Unauthorized Charges: This property is pulling shady financial moves. I had already prepaid for my room and was told at check-in that there would be a standard $100 hold for incidentals. On the first attempt to swipe my card, I noticed the machine read $436. I called them out on it. On the second attempt, the employee intentionally hid the screen and swiped my card themselves without letting me see the amount. I checked my credit card account immediately after, and they had sneaked the $436 charge through anyway! When caught, they casually claimed they would "reverse it," but it is entirely unacceptable and deceptive. 2. The 3-Hour Check-In Lie: Official check-in was at 3:00 PM. We arrived at 4:30 PM, and our room wasn't even ready. The front desk agent (Shelby or Chelsey) was cold, rude, completely unapologetic, and told us it would be ready in 5 to 10 minutes. She promised to call me when it was done. We waited 15 minutes, followed up, and were told "another 10 minutes." They kept us waiting for an hour and a half, never called us like they promised, and we had to constantly chase them down for updates. Ultimately, we couldn't get into our room until 3 hours past the official check-in time. 3. Greedy Upselling for Booked Amenities: To rub salt in the wound, there was zero apology for the massive delay. Instead, they had the nerve to tell us it would cost an extra $15 just to light the firepit in our room--an amenity that was already supposed to be included in the room package I paid for! 4. Filthy Accommodations & Security Issues: When we finally got inside, the room was absolutely filthy, especially the bathroom. To make matters significantly worse, the door gate could not even be locked. I felt unsafe that couldn't be properly secured, which is the absolute bare minimum a hotel should provide. The customer service here is non-existent, the room upkeep is a safety hazard, and the front desk staff's behavior borders on fraudulent. A perfect experience for mom AND teenage son I came to RESET Hotel with my 16-year-old son for High Desert Design Week, and what made the experience so special was that we genuinely each got something completely different out of it, and we both loved it. I'll admit, lookingr at the RESET website beforehand, I wasn't sure we were the "typical" hotel guests, that ended up being exactly what made it such a great fit for us. I could enjoy the beautiful, thoughtful desert-modern design, have some quiet downtime, lounge by the gorgeous pool, and soak up the atmosphere, while my son could feel independent and very cool hanging out at the pool with the other Design Week participants, including some of their pets! RESET itself is such a special place. The minimalist rooms and architecture feel incredibly intentional while being comfy and relaxing, and the whole property blends beautifully into the desert. Our private outdoor space, fire pit, mountain views, outdoor tub gave me plenty of ways to unwind. And there's something pretty magical about being able to slow down, look at the stars, and feel completely removed from everyday life. The design is sophisticated, but the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. And then there was High Desert Design Week. Ben delivered! One of my favorite things about the week was how accessible it felt. There was such a wonderfully diverse mix of people, different ages, backgrounds and skill levels, but everyone seemed to share the same willingness to learn, experiment, get their hands dirty and have fun. No intimidation, no sense that you needed to be a professional designer or maker to belong. I loved having Ben Uyeda and his sister Jessie as sounding boards for ideas I was developing for my own work. They were generous with their knowledge and genuinely interested in helping people explore their ideas rather than simply showing us how to do something. My son is a maker himself, and one of the things I try to do as a parent is expose him to new materials, new ideas and interesting people who might spark his curiosity. He absolutely loved the projects, the people and the hands-on teaching from both Ben and Jessie. They encouraged his curiosity and talents in a way that felt natural and authentic. It was wonderful to see him completely engaged and excited about what he was making. That's probably what I'll remember most: we were able to have completely different experiences in the same place, and both come away inspired. I got creative time, thoughtful design, desert beauty and some much-needed downtime. My son got hands-on projects, new people, new materials and the freedom to explore his own creativity. RESET and High Desert Design Week turned out to be a pretty perfect mother-and-son trip -- and I would absolutely do it again. read more

It is as if the entire property was designed to be photographed, but at the same time, it still feels calm and grounded. Everything is stripped back. It is about simplicity above everything else. Not in a bare or unfinished way, but in a way that actually makes sense. The architecture is clean and deliberate, designed to pull your attention outward to the mountains. That is where your focus goes. Not to clutter, not to distractions, but to the landscape. At around $300 a night, you are not paying for excess. You are paying to remove it. That is what makes this place different. It quietly challenges you. If you are going to spend that kind of money to be here, then lean into it. Put the phone down. Sit in the silence. Let the space do what it was designed to do. Most of what we surround ourselves with on a daily basis is unnecessary. Here, it is all stripped away, leaving only what is essential, but done in a way that still feels elevated and thoughtful. What stood out to me was the kind of person this place attracts. I noticed a lot of Tesla and Rivian owners pulling in, people who seem to appreciate design, intention, and a different way of experiencing space. That says a lot about the energy here. We stayed at Reset Hotel this weekend, and my family and I had the best time. The entire staff was so lovely and welcoming. Since it's a boutique hotel, you really feel taken care of the whole stay. It was the perfect mix of relaxing wellness vibes and family-friendly fun -- the pool was great for the kids, and they even have a cold plunge and sauna. The property itself is huge, with plenty of space to walk around and explore. They also have a beautiful art installation, and the grounds would be perfect for an event, wedding, or wellness retreat. Our room was spotless and comfortable. We stayed in the king room with the outdoor tub, and we definitely made good use of it! We stayed at Reset from August 2-3, 2025, and it was such a refreshing escape! The property is still very new--not even a month old when we visited--which made our stay feel even more special, like we were part of the very first wave of guests discovering this hidden gem. The location is incredibly quiet, peaceful, and beautiful, with some of the best stargazing I've ever experienced. We were lucky to visit during a meteor shower, and out of my group, I personally saw 7 shooting stars! We had rented three rooms, and it was fantastic that we were all placed next to each other. The connecting patio doors allowed us to open up and create a shared space where we could all hang out comfortably. What really made this stay extra memorable was how pet-friendly Reset is. We all brought our dogs, and they were treated like royalty! Each room had a brand-new dog bed, water bowl, treats, and toys that our pups got to take home. I've never been to a hotel that welcomed fur babies with such thoughtful touches. The only improvement I'd suggest is adding some turf grass in the patios--the temps reached 106°F during our stay, so we had to wait until night to let them roam safely. Thankfully, my doggy stroller saved the day for daytime strolls, and the cool AC in the rooms kept them comfy. Important note for fellow dog owners--especially those with big dogs: Please be very cautious while leaving your pup in your room! The doors (both the room door and the patio doors) have long horizontal handles that are very easy for tall dogs to open if they stand on their hind legs and lean on them. My friends had to get creative by blocking the doors with items from the room while we slept, and during the day we used the heavy patio chairs to keep the doors secured while we were at the pool. Thankfully my two small lap dogs weren't strong enough to escape, but my friends' larger dogs figured it out pretty quickly. Just a heads-up so you can prepare! Our Room (#3) had a bit of a slow start with the AC, but it cooled down after some time. The rooms are cozy and minimalistic, with no TVs, which encourages you to unplug and truly reset. I didn't realize how much I relied on a TV to wind down, but being outside under the stars quickly made up for it. Our room didn't have the viewing window for stargazing indoors, but honestly, sitting outside made the experience even better. Since the on-site restaurant wasn't open yet, we brought our own food (pro tip: pasta salad is perfect for hot days!). Each room comes with a small fridge and a coffee pour-over stand, which was a nice touch. We also took advantage of the pools, which were a huge relief in the desert heat. It would be wonderful if they added more umbrellas that extend over the water, as the sun reflecting off the pool gave me a pretty intense sunburn (ouch!). Aside from the pools, there isn't much else to do on the property yet, but I think a spa would be the perfect addition in the future to really amplify the "unplug and unwind" vibe. One big plus is that the hotel is just a short drive to town, where you can grab food from local restaurants, fast food, convenience stores--and even Little Caesars! Pizza and drinks under the starry sky? Absolute perfection. Now, let's talk about the staff. While a few team members seemed a little distant (understandable in that heat!), one person truly made our stay unforgettable: Cheryl! She is THE SWEETEST--her hospitality was above and beyond. She literally ran to set up our rooms with all the doggie amenities and had an infectious smile that made you feel instantly welcomed. She even reminded us to keep an eye on our pups at night because of nearby coyotes (which we actually heard howling!). If I could give Cheryl five stars separately, I would in a heartbeat. Being a brand-new property, there are definitely some growing pains, but none of it took away from how much we enjoyed our stay. I'm already planning a winter trip back--I can't handle that desert heat again, but I'm excited to see how Reset grows and evolves. We celebrated both of our birthdays, two Leos, king and queen energy, and spent our time soaking under the stars in a stone tub sprinkled with rose petals as the sun set over the mountains. Even our fur baby, Cruze, was welcomed with open arms, complete with her own treats. It is rare to find a place that feels this luxurious yet still deeply grounded and dog friendly. We had the most incredible reset at The Reset Hotel in Joshua Tree. From the moment we arrived, it felt like the perfect escape from the busyness of everyday life (and our kids!). The creative use of storage containers as stylish, comfortable rooms was such a fun and unique touch. The highlight of our stay was soaking in the outdoor bathtub while taking in the stunning mountain views--absolutely magical. We loved having our own Solo Stove fire pit under the stars and spending lazy afternoons by the relaxing pool. The cocktails were outstanding, and the morning sauna and cold plunge combo was the ultimate way to recharge and shake off the desert dust. I wanted to sleep under the stars (and catch a meteor shower) but glamping style. So, naturally, the outdoor daybed was what sold me on booking the Reset hotel. (Be warned that the night sky is not anywhere near as awe-inspiring as the magical image that we have in our heads). I booked the Moonlight Patio Room because I needed a pet friendly room. (Pet fee is a steep $125 + taxes. There is a booking option "pet package", which is supposedly discounted). Pros: Fully enclosed patio with daybed, clean rooms and public areas, medium firm bed and pillows, nice sheets and towels, spacious bathroom, ambient lighting, responsive A/C and heating, pet friendly, easy parking, friendly staff, good views of the sky and horizon Cons: Cramped living space (I was told other rooms offer more living space), resort fee, limited and pricey dining menu The biggest con for the Moonlight Patio Room is that there is no window view; AND the view from the bed is largely obstructed by the curtain. Overall, I would say poor value for money. If not for the friendly staff, I would give this place and experience a 2-star rating. read more

I rarely write reviews, but after what my wife and I experienced, I feel obligated to share. We booked Reset in August 2025 for a March 2026 stay to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary -- seven months in advance, with a deposit paid and a confirmation email in hand. Five weeks before our arrival, we received a phone call informing us that our reservation had been cancelled due to an internal booking error. The property had been sold out from under us to a group booking, despite our prior confirmed reservation. What followed was weeks of unreturned calls, contradictory information from staff, and broken promises. We were initially offered help finding and paying for alternative accommodation -- an offer that quietly disappeared. The manager, Branden Collins, did not return multiple requests for a callback until I left a message implying he had already called me. When we finally spoke, he acknowledged the situation and committed to reimbursing us for the Airbnb we were forced to book at peak season rates. He asked for my mailing address and said a check would arrive within 30 days. It is now mid-April. No check has arrived. My last two follow-up emails have gone unanswered. We did not get to stay at Reset. We did not get reimbursed. We did not get so much as a formal apology in writing. What we got was our 40th anniversary trip thrown into chaos with five weeks' notice and a lot of wasted time working with a management team that either doesn't care or doesn't have the ability or authority to do their job. I booked this property based on a glowing New York Times recommendation. I wish I had read the other reviews more carefully first. Please do your due diligence before booking -- particularly for any special occasion where you cannot afford to have your plans fall apart. read more

The Reset Hotel is a "retreat" Hotel. The staff referred to the grounds as a "campus." The decor and amenities seem sculpted toward meditation and peace. The art in the cabins are in calm earth tones and nature. The secluded patio concept allows guests to see the stars (my partner and I spent some time on our backs looking up). I recommend this as a getaway. The price was out of our range, but other folks here were fine. Take the time for yourself and your person. This just might be the place. read more

This hotel is in a beautiful location, great views of the stars and an amazing pool. The sinks and drains had a weird smell and the staff seemed unsure of their procedures. I paid for my room in advance. However, I was incorrectly charged an additional 250$ in addition to their 40$ nightly fee. I have called several times and emailed. The staff claims they have solved the issue and I need to keep waiting for my refund but it have been over a week since my stay. I wanted to love this stay but I am incredibly disappointed with the lack of customer service and hospitality. read more

Let's start with the deficits. Service at this place is nearly nonexistent. The first morning the chef called out sick so there was no food available. They recommended a restaurant that was closed on Sundays.The third morning they said they had an issue and there was no food available. (we had purchased a breakfast package ).The limited snacks that are available are very expensive. The front desk staff were hit and miss with some clearly not interested in being there. There is no room cleaning and no supplies to wash the cups as there are no dishes or Utensils available in the room. For $500 a night you would think they would do better. The minimalist decor is sweet and unique especially in the beautiful, desert setting. The pool was really nice though had dirt in places. The hot tub had a green color for two days. Nice fire pits but wood is $15 each night. Overall, while the place and location are stunning- We're leaving today disappointed given the price. read more

I stayed at the Reset hotel from Friday 11/7 until Sunday 11/9 and I had a terrible experience. - Arriving in the late evening on Friday, the person at the reception takes me to my room without considering that it might be nice to help with my luggage. We then arrive in room 36 where I am surprised to not find the outdoor tub I paid for, and the same person to react, surprised, "Oh, you booked with an outdoor tub? I'm sorry, you must have been reassigned". This is the only explanation I will have during my entire stay. I then discover a room whose patio doesn't lock and where the fire place doesn't even have wood. - When I wake up the day after, I keep getting more and more disappointed : My shower turns into a swimming pool as it seems the glass protection is leaking ; the filters for the coffee machine are not the right ones, and so on and so on After a full day wandering in Joshua Tree, I come back to my room at 4pm to discover that it has not been serviced: bed is still not done, towels are not clean, coffee is not refilled, etc. When I go to the reception to ask for an explanation, they tell me that I needed to let them know that I wanted the room to be done. Not only is that unacceptable, but at least I should have been informed that hanging the "Please do my room" outside of my patio was not sufficient enough! While they finally accept to send someone to clean my room, when I come back 1-1.5h later from the swimming pool, my room is still not done! It is now almost 6pm and the lady at the reception offers me some swimming pool towels for me to take my shower. The maintenance person offers me to bring some matches for the wood so I can turn it on later that day: I am still waiting. - When the time finally comes to leave on Sunday, I decide to do my check-out in person to ensure that the promised discounts for the wrong room and lack of service have been properly applied ; just to discover that the person at the reception can't print the document for me, given that "he is just the cook"! I will have to wait another 10-15minutes before someone finally comes to help with my check-out. And the best part? The owner will not even bother answering my emails. Just to show how much she doesn't care about the customers of this hotel NEVER AGAIN. read more
