My review is based on an adult taking her driver's license for the first time in 2017. So I cannot comment on summer driving classes for teens given at this location. The knowledge test is straight forward and the driving depends on who you get as instructor. I give this school a 3 star based in the following: - The owner is a really good guy. I ran into some issues (payments) and when I contacted him he was approachable and very understanding. - The location. It's a great location to start driving on a moderately busy local road. There's tons of things around (cafe's, grocery, shops, banks, restaurants etc) in case you want to come early or you end up staying afterwards. - After I got my license I was still unsure of some small things which intuitively makes sense to experienced drivers but didn't to me. I could always call back to ask and people were accommodating. I take 2 stars off for the following: - Instructors, there's some great instructors and there's some bad. You will have to try out. With bad I mean a woman who was impatient with me trying to take things slow. She was clearly not in it to teach but to get paid. The good ones were very understanding, funny and patient. Ironically, the good ones are always free to teach early weekend mornings. Just a tip. - Lack of technology, this is a time where technology dominates for everyone's convenience. The system is set up so you can book classes online but not cancel them. Is it done purposefully? I don't know. To cancel you have to call ahead. And you won't always reach anyone so you better cancel much ahead of time. To rely on a person picking up the phone feels a tad archaic. - read more

My wife completed a single initial lesson in May and decided to upgrade to a 5-lesson adult package in July, paying an additional $350.05. Since purchasing the package, she has called weekly trying to schedule the remaining sessions, but the school was consistently unable to provide any appointments. When we finally requested a refund for the services they could not deliver, they refused to issue a refund and claimed they could not guarantee any service would ever be provided. Taking hundreds of dollars upfront, failing to offer availability for months, and refusing to refund unrendered services is completely unacceptable. Unless you want your driving students to be traumatized for the rest of their lives, STAY AWAY. The instructors are incredibly rude, and have insane road rage. These are not the types of people you want any potential driver to be learning from. Seriously, my brother tried getting lessons from them and would come home and have nervous breakdowns. These instructors are idiots and know nothing about safely handling vehicles, and I honestly question who gave them their licenses. 911 Driving School: get your instructors some therapy. We are dying as we signed up for a weekend class and sacrificed 15 weekends for this. At the same time, they don't want to return the money, transfer the lessons to some other school, or sell the lessons; it is also not allowed. Marilyn and Huse are awesome! I did my written test, driving lessons, and driving test - all at 911 Redmond and it was the smoothest of experiences. Marilyn is extremely clear in communicating the options, works diligently to accommodate our scheduling constraints, and is also polite & encouraging (I had to retake the written test for a second time.) Huse is the gentle giant who is extremely crisp in teaching the rules on the road, patient as we learn, and equally reassuring to calm any nerves. I have only two lessons left now and I feel great about my learning and improvement. When you go to the location in person, everything is good but trying to schedule a class over the phone is hell. I have to waste at least couple of hours trying to schedule 1 class and with my work schedule it is difficult for me to schedule all lessons in advance. They do not have visibility online for the classes which is a big disadvantage. The calls almost always go on voicemail and if you miss their call back, you're back in the loop. Instructor came and he was rude to answer my questions. He said to put another appointment on Tuesday and paid again 85$. It was really hard to explain what kinda situation. I had all my three kids take driving lessons at the Redmond center. I never had any issues. This review is to recognize one of their employees, MARLENE, who went above and beyond in helping us. She answered my phone call while I was at the DMV trying to get a permit for my youngest daughter. It turned out my daughter never turned in her WDL #; therefore, they couldn't issue a permit. To make it even worse my daughter never finished her driving course that I signed her up for. Marlene was gracious enough to waive the fee so she can complete her course! And she sent the information to DMV fast enough that we were able to get the permit during the appointment! She did all that so efficiently and with kindness! For the most part, this is truly an excellent driving school. My youngest kid recently completed all the classes and all the required driving sessions in order to get her license. It was an excellent experience for her: she appreciated all the stories told by the instructors (who were police officers) - all relevant to the driving lessons taught, and all which made an impression. She, and we (her parents), appreciated how classes were taught on time, on schedule, and how everything involved was clearly explained on the 911 website and also when I called, prior to enrolling my daughter. My eldest daughter attended the local Swerve school 3 years ago (before this 911 school was here in Redmond) and that, too, was an excellent experience. However, at that time, Swerve had the option for customers to pay their enrollment/registration fees in 3 separate installments, which was a huge help for my family. They no longer have this option, which is why we chose 911 Driving School for my younger daughter, as 911 DOES accept payment in 3 installments, if so desired. My daughter wanted to contribute to paying for her driving classes, so she paid for one installment herself and she was very proud to do so. This is what prompted us to try 911 School in the first place, but it turned out to be a great experience for the police lessons discussed in class. And the driving lessons were also all positive as well. We encountered a few minor administrative glitches in scheduling a driving session and with email communications, but they were eventually ironed out. The people there are super friendly, absolutely accommodating, it's quite, no lines if you go during the morning hours(drivers school is afternoon.) it's a great deal to pay one fee for 3 try's and you can take them all in a day, and come back all week if needed. Don't come here for your road test. Their schedule is extremely tide. The test instructor expects you to put on a show. No one is actual life drives like his grading system. It's pointless to reach his standard because you are just going to driving normally afterward. You have to act dramatically to check your blink spot, but most cars these days are equipped with the blind-spot detectors. It's incredibly pretentious of the instructor, all he wants is extra money, he wants you to pay for warm-up sessions before the test. Don't take the car from the school, it's outdated, any car is better than their garbage vehicle. Simply, don't come here. Don't bring your kids or family here. Don't refer this place to anyone. I recently had some lessons and passed the road test with Robert at 911 driving school Redmond. My experience with the school and instructors was nice. The lesson price is reasonable and even slightly lower than the other driving schools in this area, instructors are professional, informative, patient and helpful! I actually had lessons with Robert and another instructor. I do prefer Robert because he doesn't do much personal chatting while giving me lesson even it were me start the chat. So that I can focus on practice driving itself. It's not necessary the other instructor's fault that I feel I didn't improve much in that class because I were chatting and driving at the same time. I know I am a talkative person but I just prefer how Robert kept cool and claim, and it was very helpful for me. read more

I came to Redmond to start a job. I had a license from my country and did not know if I would pass the test. I saw the school near my apartment in downtown Redmond. The cars had "Instructors are Police Officer." I was a little intimidated. I signed up for a practice drive. My instructor was a Japanese man who works as a police officer for his regular job and teaches driving for a few hours a week. He was very humorous guy and made me very comfortable. I drove on the left side of the street in my country and when I started to drive on the wrong side the instructor calmly reminded me I was on the wrong side on the road. I guess he handles stress very easily. We laughed about it then drove around Redmond to get ready for the test. My instructor was very interesting guy. He was an investment banker and software engineer before becoming a police officer. We talked about coding, currency and financial markets and about life in Redmond. One hour went really fast. He recommended where to eat, places for my kids to play, which schools are good in the area and many other useful information to live in Redmond for the next 2 years of my assignment. He told me the law allows me to drive on my country's license for a year, but a state driver license is helpful with identification. I returned a few days later and passed my driver test with ease. I have to tell the other engineers to come to this school. read more

A special mention for Robert, Brian. You may fail the test a couple of times or more. I did too. But you should look at it positively. I really mean it when I say this place is the only reason I now have a driver's license. I honestly don't feel like I could have done it without 911 Driving School. Let me start off by saying that at 20 years old, I was still too afraid of driving. But I knew I had to learn soon, so I started doing a little research on local driving schools. I felt like 911 was the best for me in terms of location so I went with them and I'm so glad I did. I chose the 10 lesson package and I feel for any beginner like I was, that one is the best for you. The first day I was still pretty skeeved about driving in general but my instructors (Brady & Ed) helped me through my nervousness and always gave me great feedback and explained reasons why things are done the way they are in depth. I am so grateful to have had Ed! I feel like I learned very well from him and he was super nice. I don't know about any other of the 911 locations, but I recommend the Redmond one to anyone who feels the need to learn to drive from scratch or maybe even to hone your skills a little more. Sounding like she was getting annoyed, and rolling her eyes almost like she had better things to do then the job she was actually doing. Took my knowledge test at Bellevue facility and service was great. Scheduled my driving test at Redmond facility the next day. BTW I have been driving for 20+ years all over the world. I was in early and got a male tester that smelled like an ashtray. It can be a bit stressful taking test and he did nothing to easy the mood. The constant cigarette smell bothered me a lot and when we finally were back at the 911 driving school office parking lot, he grinned and said he wanted to calculate my failing points. and then he said I was lucky to pass since I had 18 failing points! The points were I failed were so wrong.. I have an accident free record for 20+ years and he said I missed the blind spot - yeah right! I recommend that people taking drivers test should show extreme movements of head so that the tester can see every movement! And I would ask for a non-smoking tester.. read more

The receptionist Marlene is always nice and patient, i like her smiles. i passed both knowledge and skill test there, by just walk-in their office. you can have 3 attempts knowledge test per pay. For skill test, i really recommend you pay "the test with warm-up" ,Cory is my examiner, he's very nice, just listen to him during the warm-up, he won't let you feel nervous. P.S.don't only rely on the "DMV Cheat Sheet & Online Practice Test Bundle", it won't cover all of the knowledge test, i failed the 1st try, so the Driver's guide still need to be study seriously. read more

I recently took driving classes with 911 Driving School in Redmond. I had a mixed experience with different instructors. I would highly recommend booking your classes with Barrett Horn or Brian as they are very patient and calm instructors. Barrett did an amazing job and gave so many tips and suggestions during the classes. I really enjoyed taking classes with him. It was my first time experience behind the wheels and Barrett did his best to calm me down and motivate me throughout all the classes I took with him. For any new aspiring drivers, I would highly recommend booking your classes with him. His calendar is generally booked a week or two in advance, so you can plan your classes accordingly. read more

This business works primarily off word of mouth recommendations in communities and is more highly recommended in the majority of the customer body (which is teens + their parents, who aren't usually the people to go write reviews on yelp). They are ok I had a single lesson with Jessica shore she was kind and very sweet she taught me parallel parking and backing around corner in easy way with reference points thanks to her!! I had my test today I forgot my tester name but he was great I took warmup and test he explained my mistake during parallel parking but passed me in the test!! So far I have take two driving test, and I have failed both of them. This place is just a fucking scam they charge 50+$ for a driving test with no retakes and instructors are terrible. They expect you to drive like a robot with no mistakes not even minors one, I get it it's violation of the law but I have failed my tests for some bullshit ass reason. Never even coming here again! To be concise: if you just want to take your driving test - don't go there, better chose other location. My wife was taking driving test here few days ago with instructor named B.Hagar (or something like this - handwriting isn't clear). I could understand scoring points for every mistake (even though it was dark and wet and next day in other location instructor was much more forgiving). What I cannot understand is scoring points for ideal parallel parking just because she looked into backup camera (not 'used only backup camera', just looked into it!). It's dark, it's wet, it's a big sedan with no visibility through rear glass - and instructor still wants her to ignore backup camera and look only behind her shoulder. Next day in other 911 location instructor called this attitude 'weird' and allowed use of backup camera because, for God's sake, it was invented exactly for this purpose. The other point is that instructor couldn't clearly describe what exactly he wants to be done. It's OK if person previously has taken lessons and knows what to do on test, but it's completely not OK when person arrived from abroad and there are no previous experience with driving school. Overall impression was that main message instructor tried to convey is "pay us money, take the lessons - and attitude will be much better". Again, I want to emphasize - I wouldn't think that way if next day attitude was so much better in other 911 location. read more

There are a ton of driving school choices in the area. I've had a kid in 911 Bellevue and 911 Redmond. This location's instruction is fine, but if you are at all a busy family then go somewhere else. They do a terrible job of informing parents of necessary dates and I ended up having to spend more money than I should have had. My daughter informed me that she got an email last week saying we only had about 10 days to get in her last two drives. The lack of communication is terrible and their willingness to work with parents is worse. 911 Bellevue was much better- they are independently owned and are more willing to help parents than stick to unnecessary rules to make money on fees. read more
