First of all, all the positive reviews are true. I was suspicious at first, especially because…read moreliterally every other apartment I visited during my frantic search of the area was crappy, overpriced, and/or managed by crazy people, not to mention awash in terrible Yelp reviews, so I thought surely this place was too good to be true. But it really is that great. Of course, I'm not saying this building is perfect. Like other buildings, problems do arise here an there, and you encounter the same issues as you would in any communal living setting. But unlike other places, the management actually deal with the problems as they arise, within reason, and they don't try to pull the wool over your eyes. In addition, the sense of community here is great. Liz and everyone else that work here are so friendly, I genuinely love going to check the mail or pick up a package, because we usually chat for a few minutes. They truly care about the building residents! I think this situation is really rare in a big city. The cherry on top of it all is when I signed the agreement and was lead to my apartment, I had mentioned that I was new to the city and did not know anyone. That's when Liz encouraged me to join her and some of our neighbors for a hike. I took her up on her offer and drove to Runyon Canyon Park (which is only minutes away). The hours flew by as I got to know some of my neighbors/co-adventurers. The other day a friend who used to live in LA but currently does not was passing through town, and I offered him a place to stay--I love having friends over because for the first time in years I have a place that's big enough to have guests. When I told him the address, he revealed that he had actually lived in this building when he first moved to LA! When I asked him how it compared to the other places he'd lived around town, he said this was actually his favorite, in part because it was the biggest studio apartment he ever had. So there you have it! You really can't go wrong with this place. I plan to stay at The Lofts on La Brea for the foreseeable future.

It honestly feels more like a boutique hotel than anything else - everything is so modern and zen. And very clean, unlike so many other apartment complexes. The pictures don't nearly show how amazing this space is - you have to see for yourself. It's 5 min from The Grove, 6-7 min to West Hollywood and 15 min from Culver City. Location is amazing - it's close to everything but still has a private/secluded zen feel to it. Amazing!

The Good - Brand new complex. Very modern and clean. All new appliances with hardwood floors. Can't complain. - Parking garage is well lit and clean. - Pretty secure place with lots of security cams. No security guard on site or after hours. When I initially signed with Moss, they told me there'd be after hour security guards. Nowhere to be seen. - When you close the windows, you can't hear outside noises. Which is great because of all the construction on Wilshire. - Complex is always clean. They're constantly cleaning the elevator, hallways, etc. FYI's: - Floor to floor sound is pretty bad. I always heard my upstairs neighbor walking around, vacuuming, moving furniture, etc. My neighbor below would blast his/her music and the bass would soak into my unit. If you are sensitive to noise, take this into consideration. - Not a lot of amenities. There are bike racks, pet grooming area, and club house... but no gym or pool. Not a deal breaker though. - Leasing office isn't always open as it says on the door. Better to email if anything is needed. - There's a lot of construction going on nearby. Your unit will get dusty pretty quickly. The Unpleasant Incidents - Before you move out, they have two inspections. Pre-move out and day-of move out inspections. We spent time cleaning everything so we won't get charged for a hefty cleaning fee. On the day of our move out, office noted that everything was clean and we will pay for something minor in the bathroom cabinet. We get our security deposit and they took out $120 for cleaning $100 for painting the unit. Uh we had very few scuff marks on the walls (usual wear and tear). Not sure why two inspections were needed if they were going to charge for painting and cleaning. I lived at my prior apartment for 5 years + and they didn't even charge me that much for cleaning. - They will show your unit to "future interested tenants" before you move. Most places have the courtesy to wait until you move out before showing it to others. This place for sure doesn't. I got a call from the leasing office 4 days before my move asking if they can show my unit to a possible future tenant. I asked if they can wait until I move out - since it's only 4 days away and the unit would not be attractive with boxes and moving mess that I made. Next day, I got a very impersonal, insensitive email from the property manager that the email serves as a 24 hour notice to enter my unit and that I am interrupting business. Fine. Only request was that all parties take off their shoes. Last thing I wanted to do was clean up after strangers who walked all over my unit. Packing was already more than enough work. One less chore to do, right? Wrong. After work, I came home to black footprints on the floor. Just amazing. Thanks Urbanpolitian for making me clean up after you. Before this incident, I was quite impressed with the management. Amazing this one incident can ruin it all.

When we were out of water there were barely updates or any compensation for it. The front desk woman, Lenny and the handy man are the backbones of Line Lofts. They go above and beyond and are always on deck for residents needs. As this is a luxury building, I expect more from management as it's the face of the building. Hospitality is key.

Management at Burton Way Luxury Apartments gave a key to my unit to my stalker -- yes, you read that right. My stalker created a fake email pretending to be me, told the office that a "friend" would be picking up a key, and they actually handed it over to him. This was after I had already given the management team written and verbal instructions not to respond to anyone using that email or any other number but mine. As a result, my home was broken into, thousands of dollars worth of belongings were stolen, and I was left feeling completely unsafe in my own apartment. On top of that, the building is infested with roaches. They're all over the property and eventually made their way into my unit. I complained about this repeatedly. Every time, management said they had "treated it," but nothing ever changed. The problem clearly runs deep in this building, and they simply refuse to take it seriously. And if all that wasn't enough, after everything I'd already been through, a new employee started working for the management company and -- unbelievably -- called my stalker directly, thinking it was me. This is after months of me explaining the severity of my situation and begging management not to make that exact mistake. It's beyond careless -- it's dangerous. For the amount of money they charge to live here, tenants deserve safety, professionalism, and basic human respect. Instead, what you'll get is a roach-infested building run by people who clearly don't care about their residents or their safety. There are plenty of great places on Burton Way, even older buildings that are managed far better than this so-called "luxury" complex. Do yourself a favor and stay far away. Unless you want to deal with stalkers, roaches, and management that puts you at risk -- this is not the place for you. I'd like to say better however, the management is crooked. While the manager took care of what was…read moreneeded, after all, it is his job; he was difficult to deal with. I resided at this residence for a little over 7 years in a 2/2 with a roommate. I also rented an extra garage spot, of which the manager asked me to pay in cash, without paperwork. Without argument, I paid it in addition to my rent each month. I believe it's he was pocketing the cash as he did with the garage door opener "deposits". There were times when the building manager made accusations towards me about leaving possessions in other people's parking spot. I responded, "I don't do that." Whenever putting in a request, he would give a call to me that usually started with "I don't have time". When in passing, he would start conversations that did not end on his behalf. I was polite and mentioned a need for an appointment to exit his rambling. After the first two years, rent was raised over 10%, year after year. The manager's justification is "inflation" or "that's the market". I believe he's getting a cut of it. Eventually, I got fed up paying so much and placating the building manager. Upon putting in my 30-day notice, the management gave me a piece of paper with a reason why I'm moving out. Given the building manager's history of rudeness I left it blank, though I should have checked off "unsatisfied with building management". I called to ask before leaving what is expected. He explained that nothing is to be left behind but the garage door openers in the apartment. I did so and took a picture of the openers left on the counter. I texted, it stating that I will be expecting my cash deposit back in addition to my security deposit. No reply. Days passed and I texted again about getting any deposit, no answer. I called, left a message, no callback. Finally, 21 days passed and still nothing. I sent a certified letter enstating that if deposit monies are not received, I will press charges. I finally got texts with a picture of a line item list, stating charges for materials and cleaning service. Those charges seemed reasonable, considering I did not get a chance to clean the oven, though I did everything else and all was used under normal usage. I called back and the manager actually answered. I stated that no deposit monies have been received. The manager actually took up his responsibilities of getting the check back, now that I pressed the law on him. When I mentioned the cashback for the garage door openers, he deflected it, stating he has a contractor to attend too. The manager finally texted me that he has my check, so I called back to and arranged a date and time to meet with him to pick up my deposit check. I informed him that I am expecting my cash deposit back for the garage openers in addition to the security deposit. Prior to meeting up at the building office, I looked up the listing of my old apartment, it was completely redone, new kitchen cabinets, counters, appliances, closets, bathrooms, hardwood floors, and paint. Upon meeting up, I got the check, signed for it, then asked for my cash one last time. He said that there were more damages that he did not charge for. I said that it's not on the list and the apartment was redone anyway and he's not the owner/agent, so it's not right to charge a tenant further. He said that he could take back the check and have the deposit return back a lot less than the cash and line items combined. I stated that this was already done and to give back my money. He stuck by his statement, saying that it's over $1000 worth of damages he did not charge when the actual owner/agent (who signed the line item list) only took off $127 worth. Then he turned to other paperwork on his desk, and stated was a lot that was needed to get done on his behalf. I told him that what he has done is wrong. I left utterly vexed. I can only conclude that this was an act of extortion from Leonard, the building manager. I hope that this review can warn any further potential tenants of his nature so they won't have to write such a review about a crook.
