I went to a well known locksmith in Thousand Oaks near Trader Joe's. I was told "we don't cut keys that aren't ours". Ok. Do you have a key of yours you can use? "No. Sorry". The do-it center is closer to where we live, but at this place we can be sure that all of our key copies will work. At the competition, we have found that 1 of 2 or 2 of 3 copies will work. Not good enough. This place is a much better choice for key copies. read more

I took an antique steamer trunk to A-1 to have the lock opened. The owner and his assistant worked on the trunk for at least 20 minutes then made a new key for the lock all to the tune of $15. They were wonderful. I highly recommend this business! read more

I've been into A-1 twice and both times came away a very happy customer. Once for an automotive key for an unusual British Car which they handled with ease. My wife's car key would not turn the ignition and these guys got me through it without having to go to the dealer and buy new $130 chipped keys. They walked me through removing the cylinder from steering column and then fixed the cylinder while I waited and at a very reasonable price. I wouldn't even give them 1 star. I had a guy come out to rekey my front door, he showed up an hour late and after he left the latch was barely working. I had him come back to fix it and then it wasn't wouldn't work at all! I called the owner and asked him to come fix it and he said the only guy they had was the one he sent out. I went to the store to get my money back and the owner didn't care at all about my lock and insinuated that I did something to it! read more
