I've used A1 for over three decades and have always been thrilled with their work. I've recommended them countless times, and everyone I sent their way reported the same great service. That changed with the new person at the front desk. When I dropped off my radiator, he was in the middle of an argument with the previous customer -- I don't know the details, but it was an odd thing to walk in on. When it was my turn, he looked at my radiator and, without inspecting it, declared it "plugged" and said it would need a tank removed to rod out the tubes. I looked myself and saw corrosion on the outside of the tubes, but the ones I could see inside were clear. I pushed back, and he clearly didn't like that. After some back and forth, I said I just wanted it hot tanked, cleaned, and pressure tested. He agreed: $85, ready in about a week. A week later I got word it passed the pressure test. When I picked it up, it hadn't been painted and the fins hadn't been straightened -- something A1 has always done as a matter of course, no request needed. I can't help but suspect he told the tech to skip those steps because of our disagreement at drop-off; I can't prove that, but the timing is suspicious. When I raised it, he got defensive and said for $85 he couldn't do all that. I'd have gladly paid $100-125 to have it done right. I don't know if this is his call or a management decision, but I'll be looking elsewhere next time, and so will the friends I used to send here. Complete disaster. I was recommended to this place to clean out the sludge of a 2006 freightliner 120 gallon tank to switch with my 2015 freightliner (60 gallon). After remounting the fuel tank I noticed still fuel of sludge!! I had a scheduled ran with a long time customer. I was hoping the filters would clean my fuel. Wrong, in Utah it plugged up filters, I changed them and by the time I got back to Reno, it had destroyed my fuel pump. $12000 to replace and clean out system at Volecity Freightliner in Sparks. (Verification available) then 4 months later the injectors went (Verification available at Delta Frieghtliner in French Camp, Ca) I stopped at A1 in SLC and talked to a Pro there. Apparently the Reno store doesn't know what they are doing. Finally talked to Reno (no communication for a week) and said something about Dove Soap! After the repairs, I finally talked to the owner, he said not his problem, take him to Court. read more

I called A1 because my radiator is leaking from the actual radiator, not the hoses. I thought that when I told them this over the phone that they would set my appointment to be a diagnostic with repairs. Apparently, they only scheduled me for a diagnostic without repairs. Luckily, when I called to double check on my appointment, I discovered that they booked me for just a diagnostic, and that I would have to drive it back after scheduling an appointment for repairs a week later, as they don't keep vehicles on the premises. What kind of shoddy radiator repair service would do a diagnostic, and then have a customer drive away--potentially damaging the vehicle further which would require a new diagnostic or the possibility of needing to go to another mechanic afterwards? read more

My son and I changed the radiator early this morning and took it for a test drive to check for leaks. After coming out of a Home Depot, we noticed antifreeze dribbling out from the bottom. After a few swear words, we decided to drive it over to the professionals and let them take a quick look. They promptly asked us to put the car in the shop, out of the sun. They kinda knew what the issue was when I told them that we tightened the 2 cooler lines nuts on the radiator that weren't being used. After 20 minutes they said it was 1 of the 2 smaller house at the top that had a small, pin hole leak. They cut of a small piece of the hose and reattached it. We drove it back to Vegas the next morning with no overheating issues and no leaking! Thanks guys! Greatly appreciated it!! read more

My wife's Mazda 6 radiator started leaking on Saturday. Looked online and found A1. Was going to bring it in on Monday and see what they could do. But then thought since I needed some other minor repairs, was going to take it to the Mazda dealership. I figure we could drive it to Mazda Sunday night after the traffic died down just in case it started to overheat. Well it did overheat and we were right at the exit for A1 Radiator. So we pulled off and drove to A1 and left the car there over night. The on Monday I went to A1 to explain what the car situation was. They were very understanding and scheduled to look at it on Wednesday. I was happy with that. But A1 actually started work on it that same day. I got and estimate and even with the delay due to a snow storm, the work was finished on Wednesday. We had another vehicle at the Ford dealership for routine service. Just happened to mention the Mazda and the radiator repairs. The guy at Ford asked did it cost a certain amount and we said yes. So, we know the price was fair and we were not being gouged. If we ever need radiator service again, A1 will be our go to service center! read more

I had my car serviced here and my radiator flushed. A pretty simple task. Upon receiving my car back there's a dent in the hood where they slammed the hood down on top of a tool and dented my hood from the inside. I called and spoke with the owner of the shop to explain the dent on my car. He was extremely rude. He said, "In 20 years I've never paid out for any damage to anybody's car. My technicians would not do that. I explained that no one nor myself have opened the hood. He then told me I was playing the "Girl Card" because I'm female. Additionally, not even to worry about wasting my time in coming down and showing it to him. He hung up the phone on me. I called back several times to finish talking to him. Each time they put me on hold and will not answer the phone. I cannot believe i came here for a quick repair and now require a new hood for their negligence. Then to be told off by the grouchy old owner who is totally out of touch with Customer Service was really disheartening. I absolutely would not recommend any one enduring the trouble this business has put me through. Its trulawful business run down by an old mean owner. read more

I called this company at 7:00 a.m. They answered the phone cheerfully. I told them my problem with my radiator. I sent them a picture and they said yes they could fix it. I drove an hour to get there and when I arrived somebody was waiting for me. I also noticed that it said diesel exhaust service. My exhaust pipe had come off in two pieces. Joe was wonderful at organizing the work to be done. Francisco quickly repaired my radiator neck. Dave was awesome and knowing exactly how to put my exhaust pipe back together. A1 Radiator Repair has been around a LONG time in Reno for a good reason, they're great at what they do. My family's old truck recently had a cooling system leak that my husband couldn't find himself. He's pretty handy in the garage, and he had narrowed it down to that being the issue, but had no luck finding where it was. We brought our truck in about 4 PM on a Tuesday, and they took it in the shop and pressure tested it overnight to check where the leak was. They found the leak was in the thermostat housing and replaced the gasket and the thermostat and flushed the system with new coolant. We were able to get our truck back less than one day later, and it's worked great for the last month and a half or so. The staff was super helpful and knowledgeable. My husband was estimating the fix would likely be around $700 (like possibly replacing a head gasket). These guys got it fixed and even found some belts and radiator hose that they pointed out should probably be replaced in the process. They were right, they really did need to be replaced. Even with the belt and hose replacements included, the total was less than $350. I definitely recommend this shop for any cooling system problem on your vehicle - honest, quick, and they know what they are doing! read more

Was referred here by another local auto shop, as they are supposedly specialists in a couple of different areas of mechanics. The man at the desk seemed to be annoyed at my questions, even when I said I have been referred by a well-known local shop. He then said that the specialty for which A-1 is known starts with the OTHER shop taking apart the vehicle, then bringing, as in towing, the vehicle to A-1. Interesting. I took a radiator in for a piece of equipment that had a leak. I showed up at 4:30 pm. When they found out I live an hour away they were willing to stay late and fix it while I waited without me asking them to. I told them not necessary I would pick up the next afternoon. When I showed up at 4:30 it was ready to go. I found a coupon on their website for 10% off, which was an unexpected bonus. The price for the work they performed was reasonable. The customer service was above and beyond. I appreciate their willingness to stay late and help me out. I'm glad to support a local business. read more

I called and asked if they could stay 5 minutes past 5 pm so I could drop off my radiators. He said "Nope" even after I asked very nicely. Also, the last time I needed a radiator repaired they were rude, overpriced and took two days. I am usually not a "bad review" type of person. Their ad in the phone book states Auto Air Conditioning Specialist All Makes & Models. Between this and how long they have been in business we thought it would be safe to take our Suburban here to get the A/C fixed. BIG MISTAKE! We took it in and they did a check on it and called and said the total would be $350 and the part we told them needed to be replaced did in fact need to be replaced (surprise, surprise!). We get a call about an hour later or so and they said the screw had stripped on another part and do to how it was stripped the whole thing had to be replace, so now our total its $600. They said they would have to get the part so it wouldn't be ready until the next day (we dropped it off at 7 am in that morning). So about mid day the next day we get a call that the compressor needs to be replaced, now our total is $1,100. Figured fine just get it done at least we will have a/c. Finally get a call that the truck is ready at 4:30 that day. Driving home from the place I start getting pissed because while the air blow cool. It gets no where towards cold and the rear a/c is blowing hot. They close at 5 so I have to wait until the next day to take it back it. So I take it back in and they need the truck dropped off at 7 and need it for the day. So I have to come back again. Bring it back in and the guy at the desk acts kinda pissed that we brought it back in. He keeps stating how it worked fine when they finished working on it. Well we finally get a call at 3:30 that the truck is ready and it was the radiator ...it was plugged and now it works great. I get in the car and come home ...the a/c feels better than the last time and the rear a/c doesn't blow hot...just warm. I realized getting into it the next couple days that the a/c in the front works ok (not great but ok)...WHEN and ONLY WHEN I have droven the truck and had the a/c blowing for at least 30 mins. Which doesn't help me much since most my driving is less than 30 mins. So now I get the pleasure of taking the truck BACK down there to be "looked" at AGAIN. I did ask last time I went by there why they have to keep looking at it if they did a complete a/c check before they ever fixed it...of course I got no answer. I will update it the ever make this right but at this point in time I could never recommend this shop to anyone for any kind of service. read more

Took my Jeep to A1 Radiator in January 2015 where they replaced the radiator and flushed the engine. About a week ago I saw antifreeze under it and immediately took it in and they did a complete diagnostic check without charge, Found it was spilled antifreeze. Terrible experience. In changing my radiator, they lost just enough transmission fluid so that my car wouldn't change gears or even engage (eventually). Where did I discover this? Trying to merge on the freeway. When I called, from the side of the freeway, he assured me his mechanic wouldn't have been working on anything that could have caused that. The car worked before they had it and stopped working afterward. Had to tow the car to a different mechanic to have it fixed. read more

I am not typically a person to complain, however, if there were a 0 star option, this is what the owner would deserve. And here's why: on 9/23/15, my 2004 Saturn Vue was stolen out of the shop during business hours. I was told that the keys were left in the car and while the technicians went to lunch, the shop was left unlocked. This appears to be the protocol for the owner that I highly disagree with in light of my car being stolen! The owner seemed to showed little or no regard for this unfortunate event. He was unwilling to compensate me for personal items stolen from the vehicle. In my opinion, he was very rude and condescending to me when this occurred. He seemed to show no compassion for this theft with an attitude of "what's the big deal?" making me feel as if it were my fault for the theft! One would think when a customer leaves their personal property in the care of a business, it is that company's charge to accept care, custody and control for the vehicle and it's contents while in their possession. The way in which he interacted with me was unprofessional and very offensive. I feel negligence was on behalf of how the owner acted in response to this crappy situation. To have your car stolen is already upsetting enough and his interactions with me felt like an additional slap in the face! I will take my business elsewhere and tell my friends to do the same. read more

This is a horrible, horrible place. I called at 10 am and asked to make an appointment. The guy said they do not take appointments only walk ins, so I asked how long as I only had about an hour before I had to pick up my little brother from school. He said about an hour, so I headed straight over. When I got there he said again that it would be about an hour. I left and eventually had to have a friend pick me and my brother up. Three hours later I decided it is time to call. One guy answered and asked me to hold, then another guy answered and asked me to hold. Finally, another guy answered and said they just barely looked at my car, that they cant't work on it, and that my entire engine was shifted back. Confused, as I just had my transmission serviced and my radiator filled. I asked how is this the case. The guy then got a horrible tone and preceded to argue with me. I screwed up and asked how it had taken 3 hours to decide this, when I was told it was going to take 1. When I got there the guy. who originally helped me, ignored me for about 10 minutes. When he finally acknowledged me I asked if he could explain to me what was going on with my car and also why he would tell me an hour if they were so busy. He preceded to tell me that was all in my head and that no one told me an hour... Then we went back to look at my car and he began arguing with me. I have never in my life ever heard anyone in a customer service position talk to anyone in the tone he was talking to me in. I am dumbfounded by it. I will never ever go here again and I suggest no one else go here, unless they want to be talked to in a tone they have never heard before. read more

A couple days ago I decided that my radiator needed a couple extra holes poked in it. Not my greatest decision. My car is old and apparently new radiators for it no longer exist. After searching online and finding my only options for replacement are custom and range in price from $300 to $600 I was feeling pretty bummed. My roommate recommended I take it to A-1 radiator to see if they could fix it. He told me he had taken a radiator in worse shape to them and they fixed it and had it done the same day. Fast forward to today. I dropped off my radiator, with the extra holes I decided it needed, to them on my lunch break around noon. Not only did they have it fixed in a couple hours but they also gave it a fresh coat of paint. I was quite pleased. When I got home and went about reinstalling it I noticed something that may seem small but made me happier than how fast and inexpensive the service they gave made me. While reinstalling the fans a few months back, after replacing the timing belts, I overtightened one of the bolts and sheared it off in the bolt hole on the radiator. I never bothered to extract the broken bolt but when I was putting the fans back on this time I found the sheared bolt no longer there. They had removed it for me. I didnt even ask them to do so. I am very pleased with their service, price, attention to detail and the willingness to go above and beyond my expectations no matter how minor it may seem. I work at an oil change shop and am always on the lookout for awesome shops to refer my customers to when they ask if I know anywhere to take their vehicles for services we cant provide. I was told by Ken that my radiator core was shot and was quoted a price to fix it. I looked online and was trying to figure out some other options, just to see. I found a refurbished radiator and it was similar price to the quoted price to fix it. He seemed knowledgeable and i wanted to asks his opinion on this. I gave him the information and what one of my friends had said about maybe they are wrong and we should look at it our selves. when i said that, Ken told me that he was done and said if you and your buddy think that I'm cheating you then go buy your radiator and pay me. I had been here before and didn't even get the chance to defend myself and say that i was just quoting my friend. I was just trying to get information on what i should do and give the entire story of the radiator and project. this man stormed off at the littlest bit of confrontation and possible criticism. I don't know if they do good work or not because I dint get that far. The car means a lot to me and i just wanted to know what to do. The response was childish and I would sooner send my radiator half way across the country than go back and be treated like I was. read more

Some months back my wife and I bought our new to us 35 foot motor home, from a less then honest private party, we would later find out. Never have the words "Caveat emptor" applied more. After doing my best to ask the right questions about the couch, does it burn oil? Dose it over heat at all? and so on. with a resounding its in great shape, ah yeah, we paid our monies and tooks our chances. Well with in a month we discovered it over heated like crazy, we found this out trying to go over Donner Pass. Being something of a backyard mechanic I did everything I could think of, all to no avail. Thats when we made the decision to take it to A1 Radiator. After explaining the problem to the service manager there, he said its probably a plugged radiator. Exactly the words I did not want to hear, because I had read many cases on Google about how difficult it was to get that Radiator out of this motor home, which by the was is a class A, even harder. John said he would get it all checked out and get back to me in a few days, which he did. The news was not good, just about everything needed to be replaced, that was the radiator, fan clutch, all belts, all hoses, radiator caps and pump, why not just say everything. After hearing the price quote, my blood pressure went right through the roof and my desire to find and PO and get it out of him keep going through my mind. We settled on a price with a little wiggle room either way and they started work. About a week later we got a call from John that we could come and get our Motor Home. I got a chance to see the old radiator they took out, it was totally plugged from top to bottom.The other parts were in non to good of shape either. The job was pricey, but right after we got it back from the shop we took off to Southern Calif, As we climbed the Grapevine mountains the temp never got over 210, and it was 92 out side. It ran as cool as the day it came off the assembly line. My hat is off to A1 Radiator, for there quality of work done, everything looked brand new up front. The speed at which they got all this work done and the honesty about what needed to be replaced or repaired. Also there consistent communication with us about what was going on, which I greatly appreciated. They will from here on out always get any work I need done. If you want something repaired in a timely manner I suggest McCarren Raditor. My son and I took a oil cooler to be cleaned to A1 only to be told the cooler would be done by the next day. It took 5 days to get it repaired and then they would not take a business check to pay for the service. I had done business with these guys in the past on a number of occasions and recall them having a radiator of mine that needed "Rodding Out". That radiator sat in their shop for over a week when I returned to pick it up (untouched) and took it over to McCarren Radiator where they had it serviced in no time. Not sure why I went to A1 again. I guess it was because my son was with me and said "theres a shop' I knee jerked and pulled in to their lot. BIG mistake. One thing that can not be replaced in this life is the wasted time that a repair shop can cost a business. Stay clear of this one. read more

Well I have done a lot of business in the northern Nevada area and A 1 radiator did me right. I have tried several parts houses and have had no luck with getting a radiator for my 72 JIMMY. I wish I just would have started with A 1 radiator. I tried LMC and they could not give me the dimensions to the radiator that I needed, so I was not going to spend 380+ to have the wrong radiator. I brought my radiator in and we talked about the options that I have. He found out that my radiator was rare and that to get the perfect fit that I should just fix the one that I have. Well picked it up today with a 1 day turn around that was cool. I have to say that this was a grade "A" service for the money that I spent. I had tried to spend my money in Gardnerville but I am glad I took the time to see the guys at A 1 radiator. read more

God as my witness, these guys ripped me off as a team. I was told by their service clerk that I needed a new radiator and hoses to keep my car from overheating. There isn't a doubt in mind that they did not replace my radiator. Even worse the vehicle could still not drive more than 5 miles without overheating. The very next day I took the vehicle back to find the crew sitting there with a smile on their faces. They took my car back flushed the fluid in my radiator and still my car could;nt drive more than 5 miles before overheating. The service writer told me then that I have a "crack head" and that I would have to take it to a regular mechanic. They wouldn't refund a single penny of the more than $600 that they charged me. Since then I have repeatedly emailed their headquarters, explaining that their Reno location wouldn't honor their guarantee. To this day I still have not received a response from their headquarters. A1 radiator is clearly an organized crime gang. read more
