The ignition key of my 20-year-old Honda would not always turn to the "Start" position. Was nearly stranded a couple of times when this happened. I thought I would need a new ignition lock assembly ($$$) or a new lock cylinder (time-consuming to remove and replace) but Jim was able to use the factory codes to cut and reprogram a new key that works great. Took maybe an hour at most and it only took that long because the port to program the key is somewhat hidden on this car. Saved me a trip to the dealer/mechanic as well as considerable time and money. The guys here are friendly and easy to work with, so getting your lock repaired doesn't seem like such a chore. I would just like to say that i received the most professional service from this business thanks to Jim Thorpe. I had just got through dealing with the most incompetent employee at a local Mazda dealer. This person sold me a key that was uncut because their machine was broken and told me to go to Home Depot to get it done. Not only was it not cut they didn't tell me the key had a chip that needed to be programmed. Very pleased with service and price. I had to change a Schlage lock cylinder to work with a Kwikset key. Kind of tricky but they had the conversion cylinders in stock and rekeyed while I waited. Also had a few specialty (spare) keys made up (Angels, other sports teams) for family members. It is so hard to find a locksmith with an actual store. I actually tried to get another locksmith to perform the conversion but he put me off for 3 days and then said he had jury duty. Really? The only good thing about that guy is that he is the one who recommended A-Abbot. So even A-Abbot's competitors recommend A-Abbot. I read some other reviews and did not realize that I could get our special car key made/programmed by them. I will look into this now since we only have 1 key and the remote buttons do not work (you can not change the batteries on your own) read more

We have been here twice. My husband went today because the 2 keys/fobs we purchased on our 1st visit were no longer working (original is still working perfectly) and he had the car with him. (We previously wanted the 2 additional since this was a car for our daughter and we wanted the back ups.) One had lights that lite up when pushed but didn't open or unlock car the 2nd one the key broke/cracked from the fob. Thinking the 1st was battery but unable to unscrew the back to replace on our own, we took it in. They were able to get the back/tiny screw off but when replaced battery it didn't work. The broken key, #2, could be replaced cheaper then finding out why the 1st didn't work and there were no guarantees after running the diagnostic that the 1st key would work (confusing to me as it was only programmed by them and just stopped 6 months ago) we went for replacing key #2 as the ("brain" I call it) inside was still working. As my husband was taking care of these issues, he said it was explained to him with his understanding but I am the interrogator and he couldn't explain it too me. I can be happy that it's working but my curiosity is getting the best of me. As I have no knowledge of the ins and outs of key fobs and only my own brain/common sense I can only make assumptions. Over all they have been helpful and we have at least one more working key again so I don't have any complaints other then my curiosity has not been squashed. Would and will definitely return but this time loaded with questions myself. read more

As my fiancee and I prepared to move into our new place, one thing that had to get taken care of was a change of locks. Before I chose a locksmith, I Googled it to compare prices and availabilities. After calling about four places, I decided to go for A-Abbot because they were the second cheapest and the cheapest guy seemed pretty unfriendly over the phone. So, I made an appointment with them to re-key 4 locks to the same key and make two keys, one for me and one for my fiancee. The keys were only $2.50 each, but the total bill came out to $145. Although the guy that came over to change the locks was late for his appointment by 15 minutes, he was extremely helpful answering my questions about the area (where to eat, hang-outs, etc) and he was very quick and thorough with his work. Also, the price they quoted me over the phone was the exact price I had to pay, so there weren't any surprises. I'd like to start my review with the fact that Lexus wanted to charge me north of $500 to purchase and program a key for my 2004 Lexus IS300. That is the reason I went hunting for an alternative. I've seen A-Abbot during my times in Orange so I called to get a quote. It was a fraction of the price and they didn't inflate the labor (like the dealerships I called). I went on my lunch hour to get two master keys, one with power door locks and on without. While the tech was working on the car, I went to grab a bite. Upon my return the tech was still working on the car and having issues getting my car into program mode. At the end of my lunch break the tech admitted defeat and I walked away without my keys, but also without a bill. After doing some online research I saw that my car had an issue that would prevent the car from entering the mode needed to program the key fob. I called A-Abbot and asked to purchase the keys sans programming. Still a bargain and after replacing the electronic piece I was able to get the key working. What impressed me the most was how honest these guys are. For me, a person that can bypass the sacred protection of a lock within seconds, honesty is a reassuring quality. Thank you. read more

After a little bit of frustration i went to A-Abbot Locksmith, and guess what? They had the key in stock that i needed copied.
