I stopped here on a Friday after work because my key fob was low on the battery. The parking was a little confusing on the back side of the shop but I found my way as I called the shop. Once inside I was helped by a gentleman I believe was named Justin. He gave me a reasonable price on the battery I needed to buy out the door or he'd intsall it for triple the price of the battery. I was like holy smokes! I replied I would just buy the battery and take it home. Justin went to get the battery and as he stepped away he said he would just install it for free. (He must've seen my tired face from a long work week) I said thank you, I appeciate that so much. I did offer to give him a few extra dollars but he declined. I held my watery eyes and thanked him again. So my whole experience was quick and I was out in about 10 min. PS- About the lot on the backside of the shop it was a slight challenge have to come around to the front to use steep steps to go inside. Do NOT go here or even entertain this business unless you like being talked down to and downright disrespected. I spoke to Jim and was completely taken aback by his condescending and haughty attitude. If you read through the reviews, many others noted he lacks manners, which is a huge understatement. This guy needs a crash course in customer service. I sent pictures in advance of our conversation with the locks I was trying to get switched out, but Jim acted like he couldn't find them, claiming he gets dozens of messages per day. Once he finally found the pictures, his first question was, "What is wrong with the locks besides the fact that they're ugly?" Well, insulting a customer right off the bat is definitely one way to successfully LOSE a customer! At that point, I already knew I wouldn't proceed with their services, but decided to entertain the conversation for the sake of obtaining a competitive bid. He then asked me at one point if I have double doors and when I answered yes, but mentioned the other side is rarely used, he mumbled, "You completely missed my point and don't get it" - to which I quipped back I was tracking. He then tried to back up and say, "Well you're above average than most of my customers. You'd be surprised how many dummies I talk to." Once again, wow... no words. By that point, I think he finally realized I'm not your average customer and have a wealth of expertise in hiring service providers. Even so, it was already too late because he broke my trust from the very beginning with his lousy and unprofessional attitude. Moreover, he was too busy rambling on about how much he knows (insert eye roll) to provide me with specific and adequate options to pursue, so in the end, I didn't even get a good quotation with a well-defined scope. Thankfully, I found several other locksmiths with much better service and recommend you do the same! For a business with such a big ego, they sure are one of the biggest fools I've encountered in awhile. read more

I took an old gum ball machine there to get/find a key. I will say that the people working there were nice to me. But I was not expecting such a large bill. For 30 minutes and two keys it was $75.83 I was unaware of the high cost of labor when I dropped it off. So if you plan to go here just be aware that they charge $64 per half hour of labor. I called A-Abbot Locksmith to have a key made for my car, because my key were lost , they told me to bring it in, i had my car towed there on the 11th , once arrived i was refused service because my registration expired on the 10th , then asked if i had the title just to get a key made for my car . I've users A-Abbot several time going way back to when they were located on Orange-Olive road and they are always very helpful, but this visit JUSTIN went above and beyond basic good service. I had a unique import lock key with little or no info for the manufacturer, but using his experienced eye, he selected a key and with cutting the groves on top and a CUSTOM modification to the back side of the key, he made me a key that worked. I returned the next day and he cut 3 more of the key and they ALL worked great. I was having issues with my 2014 Honda Civic Key Fobs. Dealer wanted $500.00 for 2 keys. Abbot was half that. They could of just used an aftermarket key, and gotten my money right then and there. Ivan is amazing!! Would give ten stars if I could. I have a fireproof filing cabinet with two drawers that became stuck during a recent move. These cabinets are notorious for being difficult to get unstuck, and I was already expecting it to be a long shot. Even the owner Jim had been honest and transparent over the phone, saying there was a chance they might not be able to get the drawers open. I was impressed with his honesty, but didn't have many other options. Before the service call, Ivan had taken it upon himself to do his own research about the brand of cabinet, so that when he showed up, he was already knowledgeable about the various mechanisms. Ivan was conscientious and meticulous in the different methods he attempted, and lo and behold, he was able to get the drawers open and back in working order! Its a little bit out of the way for me but whenever I need locks or keys done, I always make it a point to visit Jim and friends at A-Abbot. The place is tiny but it has an old school vibe and they treat you like an old friend when you walk in the door. It can get a little bit busy during peak hours but the wait is never too long. On one occasion, I had an issue with one of my cut keys not turning in the tumbler. It might have been due to a bad copy. I took it back and they took care of me and made sure that the new key worked in the cylinder. They are a little pricier than the orange big box hardware and home store when it comes to locks, but their customer service is unparalleled and they will go out of their way to make sure that you leave happy. Truth be told, I don't need a locksmith very often--but when I do, I always turn to A-Abbot. read more

Passed by this place a million times but never went in since I had no need of a locksmith until about 2 years ago my bf was getting out of my car and the lanyard went with him with the key in the ignition. The whole casing of the key fob broke in half and the remote fell out with the key stuck inside the ignition. For 2 whole years, I've been putting off on getting a new case for the key since it worked fine and if it broke open, I can just put them back together just fine. I sent them a message from their website to ask how much for a new case and they said it was $75. That's cheaper than another company quoting me for $115. Went in today and I was greeted and helped right away. There was a bit of a wait but I wasn't there for more than 30 min. Recommend this place due to friendly service and affordability. These guys are great. I contacted almost a dozen places before landing at A-Abbot. I needed a spare key made for my electric bike (letric e-bike). The first time around, I brought they key with me. The bike manufacturer said the blank is equivalent to a Toyota KA15. They matched up the key and said that they weren't sure it would work. The KA15 was slightly longer. They suggested that I bring in the bike battery and test it because they didn't want me wasting my money. When I brought the batter with me the second time around, Jesus Perez helped me. He tested the KA15, and it didn't fit. He found the right key (a Honda motorcycle blank) and proceeded to make 2 keys for me. It took less than a couple minutes. They only charged me $5/key, which is less than anyone else out there. Superb! If you have a letric e-bike, get a spare from here, you won't be disappointed! read more

After he got off the phone he seemed very excited to let me know that the key was very expensive that I was trying to make a copy of, and it all felt very rude. Not sure what it typically cost but I know I've paid 30-50 in the past. JIM THORPE saved the day by making me tk copies for 30 so 15 dollars a piece. Walked in, got ownership verified and the key made along with some friendly conversation all in under 20 mins. Needed a unique key duplicated. The typical key duplication machines seen at Walmart and Home Depot will not duplicate exactly the same because a correct standard key template was not used. A-abbott carried the correct template and successfully duplicated 3 keys. The cost was definitely on the higher end for these keys, however the product works. read more
