In addition, my husband and I had a little bit of an emergency situation on our hands due to an impending heat wave, and needed to figure out a solve for our problem quickly. (This I know, was our bad in not preparing better. We take full responsibility!) I put out a request on Yelp on a Wednesday afternoon to all listed handyperson services and emailed another 6 or so companies listed on Google. Most of companies I pinged did not respond at all, and the smattering that did said they were booked through October. Thank my lucky stars, though, Joe called me back within the hour and said he'd come by between 4:30 and 5pm to take a look-WHICH HE DID! Off to a good start and it just kept getting better! I walked him through the challenge at hand: we needed to install an air conditioner in our garage, but we only had one janky window to work with that didn't fit the most narrow window unit, a standup unit didn't cool the space, and we didn't really want to lose use of the window entirely. Joe jumped right in and suggested a quick, flexible, and affordable solution: build an insulated window box so we can easily install and remove the AC seasonally and maintain the insulation that we need during the colder months. Genius! Not only was his idea a good one that checked all boxes, he presented his ideas clearly, answered all my questions thoroughly, and didn't pander to my very unimpressive knowledge of construction in general. Joe sent me an estimate via email the next morning, I approved it immediately, he showed up to do the work that very afternoon, and he was finished with the work by 5pm! MAGIC. He completed the work swiftly, rigorously, efficiently, and cleanly. The AC box is secure, accurately placed based on expectation, and perfectly fits a classic AC window unit. His crew took longer than originally anticipated but we weren't occupying the house at that time, and the pace yielded fine workmanship. Pricing was as-promised with the exception of a plumbing fix required to meet Narragansett code. Craig was happy to work the with materials we chose and the result is a beautiful, fully functioning bathroom that wows every visitor. It was impossible to find someone to install hardwoods who had availability, and then the ones who did wouldn't show up for quote appointments! The quotes I did manage to get were from sketchy dudes who gave me outrageous prices. Steve allowed me to give him a description of what I wanted over the phone, I sent him some photos of the space, some photos of what I wanted, gave him the dimensions of the area and he was able to give me an estimate via text. Personally, I'd take breaking out the measuring tape and sending a text over waiting around at home for flakey randos all day. His availability was a couple weeks out, which was much sooner than anyone else I had contacted. He gave me a start date for the project and actually started on that day. (I can't count the amount of times I've been told by these guys "I'm backed up on my last job, its gonna be another few weeks".) Steve communicated well with me through the whole project about what time he'd arrive in the morning, when he expected the job to be complete, etc. He also thoroughly cleaned up after himself before leaving each day. What stood out to me the most- he seemed to actually listen to what I was saying and patiently explained things, rather than dismissing my questions. I felt comfortable with him in my home and my dog loved him. I never felt like I was being talked into things I didn't need or getting scammed on pricing. It was very obvious that he took pride in his work and paid attention to all the little details, rather than rushing through to just get in and get out. I chose Octo Construction based on Frico's excellent comunication, accurate social media information and his reasonable quote. I never had reason to doubt him throughout the long process to get a building permit in Brookline. Frico guided me through every step and town regulation. The project completion was delayed due to unexpected structural issues, however Frico worked closely with a strucural engineer and architect and ultimately impressed the bulding inspector every visit with design and structural integrity. Frico is a very good listener and love to educate customers to make informed decisions and our home looks beautiful! Frico was always available to answer questions and address concerns from start to finish. All his employees were professional and courteous. Octo Construction is a great company to do business with! They are prompt and timely and, as far as workmanship, they cannot be beat. I would recommend them over other construction companies in the Boston area.
