See comments by others. This company bought out Clawson. They use flat rate charging to massively overcharge for warranty work. I recently paid $860 to swap out a warranty covered part. Total labor about 30-40 minutes. They charged $160 just to drive to SW Portland. I've had several similar experiences with them regarding warranty service on a Clawson installed AC unit. Everyone in the business that I came in contact with was polite and professional. Matt arrived on time and did his job quickly and effectively. He even put a filter in for me which I had purchased. our heater is a year old or so and has worked wonderfully so far. Had 2 drains for new vanities hooked up. The technician had some trouble with one of them, but seemed to get it resolved. Two days later I checked and both were leaking. I didn't call them back, as I thought I could detect the issue. I was able to get them both to stop leaking. I'm thinking it may be a good idea to do follow up calls? Maybe 24 hours after? Especially if there seems to be some problem while doing the work. Had I not checked the leak, it could have been a big problem later. read more

A&E swallowed Clawson Heating and Cooling. Clawson put a new furnace in my house 6 years ago. They installed it wrong, with not enough air going through it. The heat exchange was dangerously rusted; would means carbon monoxide could have escaped into my house. When I called A&E, they initially said they would look into it and get back to me. They never got back to me and when I finally called them again, I was told they are not liable for work done by Clawson. A warning; if your heating and cooling company gets bought out, this could happen to you. Because the furnace was installed wrong, the warranty was voided. A&E's tune-up guy was awful and pushy, trying to sell me stuff. Some companies pay their employees via commissions, and others don't. The new company discovered the issue with the heat exchange. read more

When I called, they stood behind the $221 cost for a 3' clear tube! A CLEAR THREE FOOT TUBE! The condenser, which they say costs $446 is available on Amazon for $59. A&E Heating installed a faulty thermostat and then declared my entire heating system bad. When a second opinion corrected the problem by reinstalling my original thermostat, A&E declared any warranty invalid and started collections on me. They are more concerned with covering their own butts than good customer service. They are expensive and do not stand behind their work. read more

The technician diagnosed the issue within 20 minutes. Fixing it (replacing a $10 fuse) took less than 10 minutes. They charged $127 for the diagnosis and $262 for the repair for a total of $389. The $127 does not apply to against the repair. If they treated their customers fairly, it would have been $127 for the diagnosis and $10 for the part. They use some program that estimates the time for a repair (exaggerated) rather than actual time spent. DO NOT USE A&E for a repair. read more

This outfit charged $127 for a call out, then wanted to add $550 just to use a snake on a kitchen sink clean out. No guarantees that would fix the problem and already had a release statement to sign for additional money if that didn't solve the issue. I wouldn't recommend these guys....BTW. Please call around before you pick this company. I paid 2.5x the diagnostic rate of other HVAC companies only to have a tech come out and spend 5 minutes telling me what I already knew from the error code on my heat pump. They made no attempt to see if there was an obvious source of my leak and refused looking at the head units in my home even though they said the leak could have been located there. Then to top it off, they gave me an estimate at 10x the rate of other honest companies. I am still scratching my head on what I paid for. When I called to ask for a refund, the business manager did nothing to remedy the situation - absolutely zero. After calling around, I can see other HVAC businesses do a lot more for a lot less. This group took over Clawson Heating and Air Conditioning which I rated as 5 stars through the 14 years we were with them since they first installed and then did annual servicing of our natural gas furnace and air conditioning units. Now that A & E has taken over Clawson's book of business, I have experienced a focus on them trying to sell me on new equipment when my current furnace has been doing just fine. Tim, the technician who came to do my annual maintenance, started selling me on a new furnace before he even looked at my current furnace. He then proceeded to evaluate the current furnace pointing out several areas that indicated this furnace was as close to death as a squirrel crossing I-5 during rush hour traffic! He wanted to have Rick who is also with the company come over right away and give me an estimate on replacing this "short for this world" unit. He also provided a print out of how many things were wrong with our furnace. When my wife came home and parked outside of the garage, Tim was still working on the furnace, and I quietly went out and warned her that he might try to convince her that the furnace needed immediate replacement, and sure enough, as she walked into the garage, he immediately told her that the furnace looked really bad and needed to be replaced like NOW before winter sets in! She told him he would have to talk with ME! After he left, I scheduled a second assessment of our furnace from another American Standard/Trane HVAC company. They came out a couple of weeks later and did a thorough assessment and informed me that I have no significant problems with the furnace and it certainly was not needing to be replaced at this time. I showed them the report from Tim, and they disagreed with several of his findings including all of his findings showing a need to replace our furnace immediately. I cannot recommend A & E Heating and Air Conditioning for servicing as they are not being straight with customers on the health of their HVAC equipment. read more

We just got our ducts cleaned and sealed by Jacob and Brandon as we learned that mice had actually gotten into our ductwork. WOW - - we are thrilled with the results. Who knew that completely sealed ducts could not only heat and cool TONS better, but that our electrical bills will be positively impacted as well! Can't recommend the company enough. read more

After installation they scheduled Matt for follow up visit to make sure everything was working and completed Lennox thermostat programming. We have identified and utilized qualified HVAC experts in the Portland and Vancouver areas that are readily available and capable of providing outstanding service at reasonable cost without the feeling that permeates the A&E experience of gouging you because you're based in the Columbia Gorge. A&E owners and management consistently fail to demonstrate a true concern for prospective customers and a disdain for accepting responsibility for poor performance. Their recent acquisition of Honke HVAC only serves to underscore their mediocrity = more of the same dismal record. Out recommendation is to search elsewhere for your HVAC and Electrical service requirements. read more

Gas heat went out, phone guy said they would be here Monday - we waited all weekend without heat in single digit temps. Now I get a text (not a call) saying they don't do gas stoves. Left us in a very awful situation. Now we have to get on a wait list elsewhere and hope our pipes don't freeze. read more

This is a review of the A&E Plumbing service. They charged $800 to replace 2 supply valves. That is $30 in parts and 45 min of work.

I had used Clawsons and Honke Heating in the past and they have both been purchased by A & E so I decided to give them a try when my furnace died during the recent winter storm. They came out and said I had a broken igniter which was an easy fix....but he said I have a cracked heat exchange so he would not fix it and the furnace would need to be replaced, estimate cost 10k, oh and by the way it will take at least 3 weeks. I was very distraught and cold. I called someone that was recommended by a friend for a 2nd opinion. He has been in the industry for 30 plus years. He checked extensively for a cracked heat exchange and could find NO evidence of a crack. He had multiple ways of testing besides visual. He repaired the igniter and I had heat - charged me $300. He said the newest thing is to tell everyone their heat exchange is cracked and scare them into replacing a perfectly good furnace. He also said a new furnace like mine would not cost more that 5k, which was why he suspected this was not legit. I would stay far far away from A & E...they are not trustworthy. The technician was not kind either and had an attitude. Horrible experience. Moral of the story: Don't use A & E. read more

A and E was happy to take my money for a new heat pump but failed to follow up on the final permitting. The county reached out to them many times for follow up and ultimately fined me for their failures. I asked to have these fees reimbursed ( $407.00) and was told no. I hope this review helps someone choose another company to do business with in the future. They were so helpful until they got paid....sad. read more

Had them install the system in 2018. Last summer,2021, the a/c was acting up so we called. They sent out a tech that said we needed a surge protector and the circuit board was bad. Had the work done and had the same problem. They sent a second tech out and he found that it was just a broken wire. Called and ask that the price be adjusted to exclude the first 2 visits. I told them I would be fine covering the parts and last visit. The office said they would check with management and get back to us. Never heard from them. The price for all was around 1000.00. Not happy. Shop elsewhere. read more

Where they fall down is on estimates (underbidding on behalf of electrical subs by hundreds of $), follow through (you call for the permit, not us) and price ($500 to install a $100 thermostat). Staff were kind, courteous and treated our home well. They cover their shoes upon entering and lay plastic to protect my surfaces as they worked. John Pike, Mitchell Granados and Gabe Nickell were the technicians we primarily had contact with (don't recall the name of their assistants) and we found them all professional and thorough. I arranged for AE Heating and Air to check out my mini-split system. They neglected to tell me that they tack on $175 travel charge just to come out to my house in Mosier which is 5 miles from Hood River! My total bill was $323 just to find out that everything is working fine. When I complained the tech said he hears that a lot but I would need to call the office to complain. I also called to talk about their ridiculous travel charge and mentioned my displeasure. I was told that the owners would be informed. Well, I haven't heard anything from them so .... PLEASE BE AWARE- AE is not clear about their charges and they are excessively expensive. I will let others know about it as well. read more

This company did not fulfill expectations. They charge a lot. And the sales guy took the liberty of quoting the electrical costs. We accepted we were investing in our home. We expected the work to be done well. They failed to accurately work with the electricians to quote us the right amount. Their permit had my name spelled wrong. When I called to tell them one of the staff laughed at this fact. I do not find my name spelled wrong on a permit funny. They had the worst time processing our payment. Then we got the electric bill. It was almost double the quote. This was after reduced the amount of equipment for installation. When I asked them to follow up, two weeks without an answer. My partner called the electrical company. The owner never heard a word from them. What? Thry finally called and apologized for the bad job of quoting us, but refused any adjustment to their fee to make us whole. any one wants to move to the Gorge and start a heating and a.c. biz, do it. If your work is good, you communicate, don't lie and quote accurately you might put these guys out of business. 1 star is almost too much. But it will do. It is hard to find what you need in the Gorge, but keep looking. read more
