It's an off the beaten path, ma and pa place that I love to go to and support. I brought a wall click in for repair. It isn't a fancy clock or an antique clock. Korean made 1980's. The wife took my information and said they would call with an estimate. The call never came. I finally called a week later and asked about the clock. The gentleman asked for my ticket number. I gave it to him. He said they clock is ready and that it was going to be $200. I thought, "WOW! I wish he had called first." But we love the clock and we could live with the price. I show up to the store and let them know I was picking up the clock I just called about. The gentleman looked at me oddly. And then proceeded to tell me that he didn't fix my clock. He told me he couldn't get parts. He disparaged my clock calling it cheap junk and told me to just by a new one. He sort of tried to make OK by telling me they called me several times. They didn't and when I was willing to pull out my phone and show him my call log, he threw his wife under the bus by saying, "Well she was supposed to have called you." While I appreciate an experts opinion, please don't bad mouth a much loved gift from my deceased mother. And if your going to say your going to call, then call, or at least apologize to not getting around to it. At this point, I wouldn't have them change a watch battery. Very disappointing! read more

Great service and very reasonable prices. I only discovered this place a few years back and forgot to write a review but have since been here 4 times for different items. Allen repaired my watch (internal parts) and a different time put a new clasp on it. The original clasp was not available anymore so he made a new one for it and it worked great. $5 n 5 minutes to get some links removed from my watch.. fitted to perfection! NOTE: there is a min credit card processing fee (i think 12-15) so remember to bring cash if you're coming in for a battery swap or a band adjustment. I told them it was fine to just charge me their minimum fee because i had just cleaned out my car and was cashless but they didn't want to and just asked me to remember to bring cash next time... i will def be back to have my watches tweaked here. HONEST! Salt of the earth watch repair guy at that location for 10 years, 30 prior years in Thousand Oaks and before that he worked in watch repair in Beverly Hills. It's his shop! It's not just about price but he was lower than the others I came to about crystal repair of a vintage pocket watch. He repaired it the same day and then when I returned wanted to charge me LESS than he had quoted! Love this Mom & Pop shop! Will be back! Dropped in mid-morning to get a few batteries installed in two watches. One a nice Bulova, the other an old beater sports Casio (one that's seen loads of beach/water time, and always neglected). Allen quickly changed the Bulova battery, and while changing the Casio noticed that several of the function buttons were "sticky" and not working. He really went the extra mile and did his best to get those buttons "unstuck" and now this Casio not only tells time but it also has a new life! What a guy! What a service! So i recently acquired a pretty fine high end time piece. The watch cost a fortune so i figured i would buy a replica of it to wear as my beater. Unfortunately, the replica had an issue where it would gain 5 mins not matter how you set the time. Obviously, something was wrong with the movement and needed adjustment. I figured any jeweler or watch repair that dealt with high end movements can fix it. I went to a few jewelry shops but they wanted some outrageous sums to check it out. One even mentioned that it needed an "overall" or complete service. That vendor said he would be happy to fix it at $350. $350!! Highway robbery to adjust a few screws. (The guy had NO clue it was a replica and even told me the watch is so high end that it requires that "kind" of service. And by the way, the replica itself cost less than $200. $350 to service a $200 watch! WTH!!!) I found Allen's shop by Yelp (of course!!) and went to him. One look with a louper and he knew what the issue was. He even figured out it was a replica with one look. He told me to go to lunch and when i came back, it would be done. I asked him about cost... he said "Let me check it out, if it's just something simple... no big deal. I think i know what the problem is." So after lunch, i walk back in and wouldn't ya know it? Done! He found a handspring that went sideways and asked if the replica had been knocked against something? Indeed, it had. The charge for this service - FIFTEEN bucks! $15, that's right!! He said the only reason he even charged me was because he had to put it on the machine to verify everything else was in order and it was! What honesty and great service! I will definately recommend anyone to Allen's service and you can bet ALL my gens / reps and my family's watches will be serviced here from now on! 5 stars is more than highly deserved for the fairness, quick turn around and honesty. read more

Nice man. Great work. Reasonable prices and fast turnaround time. Can't get any better than that. (12/4/2013) EDIT (5/3/2014): Well I really hate to do this. 5-star to 3. Allen really is a nice guy but maybe my type of watch is not his strong suite: classic mechanical railroad-grade wrist watch. The overhaul seemed to go well and he's a charming man but the watch ran fast by a minute or more PER DAY... whether on the table or on the wrist. This, despite the watch timing machine indicating the watch accurate to 2 sec per day. He even showed me the watch on the machine. Interestingly, he put my other identical watch on the machine and showed me how poorly adjusted it is yet it only gains a minute every 3 weeks or so. Allen's wife speculates that computers are emitting magnetism and causing it but can't explain why this would happen even when no computers are around. Allen seemed stumped but without hesitation offered to re-time the watch. But guess what... nothing changed... watch still running quite fast. Lots of money and lots of time, yet I still have a watch that I'm constantly re-setting. Maybe he is better with clocks and electronic watches. read more

Allen's Watch and Clock Repair is a classic old-school repair place that you don't see so much of anymore. I took my Nelson clock in to be repaired. I told him there was no hurry...take your time. He called me a few hours later...it was done. The guy has been doing this forever. He has no idea what Yelp is (I mentioned it was how I found his shop), and seems to not care. I saw the reviews on Yelp I decided to give them a try. I had four watches that needed new batteries and one with an issue that needed some work to be done to it. The husband, I think his name is Allen was not very personable. I understand that his English is not the best but you can at least say "Hello". Anyway, I told him what I needed and I think he grunted a few times before I got a word out of him. He took the watches and replaced the batteries in three of them but one needed a part and he would have to order it - no problem. But my main issue other than the luke warm attitude has to do with his inability to at least tell me what it would take to fix my other watch that had an issue. He only told me that he would have to open the face. OK, what does that entail? And how much would that cost? Crickets!!! Bottom line, if you just need a battery replaced this is a decent shop to go to. $8 bucks + tax and you're out the door. Beyond that, I'm not to sure. read more

I wanted to buy my girlfriend a nice hello kitty watch for her birthday but all the watches out there were either for little girls or not what I liked for her. So I came up with the idea of taking the face of a plastic HK watch I liked and putting it in the case of a nice timex watch. A pretty simple and cute idea I thought. NOT. I went to 4 different supposed "expert alterations" watch repair spots with 5 star ratings and every single one of them turned me away. "You should just buy an already made one" "It's not possible" "It can't be done." With little hope and my gf's gift already late I found Allen's Watch Repair on Yelp and decided to give it a shot. I brought it in, explained my situation, and asked if it was possible. He took it behind the counter and in seconds started taking everything apart. By this point I was already impressed because no one even would even touch it before. In less than 5 minutes he comes back to me and says yes it's very possible. I asked him how much it would cost and get this, he looks at me straight in the eye and tells me 20 dollars. TWENTY! I was blown away. Seriously. Not only that but he got it done way ahead of schedule. It must've been less than 12 hours when he called me to say it was done. Days before he said it would've been. When I picked it up, I was shocked at the superior craftsmanship. This guy is seriously an artist. It looked like it came straight out of the factory. Flawless and absolutely perfect. 3 months of planning finally realized and I was so happy. And so was my girlfriend. She's in love with her late bday/early Xmas gift. Took 5 watches that I assumed all needed new batteries, Allen couldn't open one of them so I dropped them off and picked them up about an hour later which is super quick considering i had 5 pieces. When i came to pick them up he only charged me for 4, explaining that the 5th one only had a screw that was in too far and all he had to do was pull it out a bit. He could have easily charged me for the 5th since I don't know the first thing about watches, batteries, etc, but did not. He is pleasant, honest, reliable, and cheaper than other places! read more

The staff was wonderful and extremely knowledgeable. Had a watch polished and when I was informed it would take about a week and half, the owner was kind enough to offer a loaner watch... who does that??? That's what you call EXCELLENT customer service. Have been back with 2 more pieces, one is a c1991 Longines Hour Angle Chrono that even the factory messed up - Allen fixed it! Also did a compete service on a c1996 Omega Speedmaster Pro - excellent all the way around. He now has another vintage piece he is completely rebuilding with a legendary valjoux 72, also doing some subtle, tasteful restoration.
