I'm not so liberal with 5-start reviews, but in this case my visit today was everything I'd hoped for. It's December 23, so of course I'm looking for that one last perfect gift; in this case I was looking for a vintage pocket watch for my son-in-law. Too late for eBay. I'd thought to try the thrift shops on Sherman Way, but then decided a classic old watch repair shop might be perfect. I yelped same in the SFV and zeroed in on Allen's, not far from where I live. I had a few watches that needed new batteries, so I walked in with that as my "main" goal before asking if they had an vintage pocket watches. ;o) Allen works the back, while his wife, Myrna, the front. There are so many posts written here that speak to this her friendliness and Allen's craftsmanship, I won't take any time to add anything except...yep. Good people, committed to their craft and just what the doctor ordered. I walked out in 15-20 minutes with three running watches, one new watch band and a great little pocket watch that met my budget and will awe my son-in-law. I brought my omega speedmaster to Allen because of a broken mainspring. Not only did Allen fix the main spring but he did an outstanding job servicing the watch. My boyfriend needed his battery changed on his $300 Nixon Delta snowboarding watch, which is a pretty complicated watch because of all the digital gadgets on it. I had the battery changed on a prior model like this one (Nixon replaced it) at one of the mall shops a couple of years back, and I know a couple of the mall kiosks wouldn't touch it...and the one place I did take it to did not seal it right and fogged up shortly after. Since this was a brand-new replacement from Nixon a year ago, I didn't want to make the same mistake as the previous one and have this one fog up due to incorrect battery change and sealing. I looked on Yelp for a few watch places in the West Valley since I was visiting my parents in Woodland Hills, and came across Norman M's Yelp review. All I can say is Mirna and Allen are the real deal. They are very friendly with great customer service. They are very honest with you and will tell you about what they can and cannot do, and give you an assessment on price. When you walk in, all of their certificates from various watch companies are hanging on the wall that they have completed the certified courses. Just from that, you can tell they are very proud to be doing what they do and are true timepiece aficionados. They have been doing this since 1961, and the entire family are watch makers/repairers. If there is something they cannot do, they will gladly give you advice as to places where you can go. I have been here 3 times- the first time was in December 2010 to get my bf's Nixon battery replaced. I then came back there a few weeks ago to get a link removed from my bf's titanium bracelet that was very difficult to remove. We had actually bought this bracelet in December 2009, and it had been sitting in the box because we took it to a few jewelers in the East Valley (where we live), and they did not have the tools or knowledge to remove the extra links. I took it to Mirna and she removed it in 5 minutes! I came back here a 3rd time last week because after talking to Mirna, I found out that she was an authorized dealer on Citizen watches among other brands. She took the time to show us some time pieces after she asked us questions on what styles we like and were looking, and we bought a brand new Citizen chronograph titanium watch at a great price. So not only are the prices for watch and jewelry repair excellent, but so are the prices for the watches. (*Note: Watches are not on display, so you have to ask!) They were selling jars of jewelry cleaner, and they were very honest about what I should and shouldn't use it on and whether or not I really needed it. Something as simple as that showed me they weren't out to make a quick buck like some place are. They are not so much concerned with the sale and would prefer for to treat you right and make sure you are happy with your decision. This is a true Mom-and-Pop business where they pride themselves on their customer service and their knowledge. Whether you own a $5000, $500, or $50 watch, this is really the best place to take it. They were based in Thousand Oaks a few years ago, and to this day they still have many customers who come from as far as Camarillo to get their watches serviced. That really says something when you have loyal customers who are willing to make the drive, especially with these high gas prices. If you have a very expensive watch, definitely trust this place to take care of you and your timepiece. read more

I was super excited to try this place out after reading the good reviews. I brought in a few watches that had batteries dead and strap issues. The batteries were no biggie - he fixed those fine although he charged more than my other watch place. My issue was that he attempted to fix a watch strap that he couldn't do and ended up messing it up even more. Granted he didn't charge me for it but I was disappointed with his dismissive attitude. Also another watch needed a part glued to the face and the workmanship was not great. I wish I could leave a better review as it is a mom-and-pop joint which I like supporting on principal but I won't be coming back. read more

Allen is the man, I came in to resize a Tag and I'm definitely particular about the fit of a watch... one beds too soft, one too hard type deal. So we tried two links... too loose... tried three... Still not quite the ticket... Adjusted the clasp a bit... still not perfect. All the while Allen is super patient as annoying as I'm sure I was. He kept working with me until it was just right and I never felt he was the slightest bit annoyed. I'm never going anywhere else, period. read more

I had Allen service one of my clients wristwatches recently. A Rolex Submariner. Previously I have used several watch repair services in downtown L.A.. No need to go downtown now! Finding a watch repair service that can pressure test your watch is really important, Allen can. He replaced the seal and did an over haul on the movement. I dropped in to replace a watch battery. $8 isn't bad. I saw that they require a minimum of $15 expense to charge your card, but he very nicely waived that. I will bring my watches and clocks to him in the future. read more

We went to Allen's last week based on the other great yelp reviews. I had a batch of about 6 watches that needed various things done to them. To my surprise - they took care of us right then and there. He fixed my watches while we stood there at the counter. I couldn't be happier. Super nice friendly people too. This is a great Watch/Clock repair shop. Allen and his wife Myrna are fantastic people and will not take advantage of you. Allen is an excellent watchmaker and has a lot of years of experience especially with older vintage watches. My first visit for a non functioning TAG Link watch... thought it may need a battery and they took me right away. it was only a battery and they replaced in 5 minutes, cleaned the watch and only charged $16.00!!! If you need service for your fine watch, you better go to Allen, I collect fine watches from Patek to Rolex and Allen in my opinion is the Best trained watchmaker around, his knowledge and ability are first class, after being a star at Torneau, I figure he is seeing it all so I took my 1972 Rolex Sea Dweller in need of service and it came out as good as new at a fraction of the cost that I was prepared to pay. Again, I went in to see if they could fix a bracelet. They didn't even charge me!!!! How nice is that???? Guy at the mall tried to charge me $40! AND he wanted 5X more than they do for battery change on watches. I love this place, so sweet. read more

Had my Watch re-calibrated there. the watch works wonderfully. He even polished the case,lugs and bracelet for free! Looks like I just bought it even though it's pretty old. What a great surprise. I came here to get my strap replaced on my watch. The strap I had bought online and was only here for the service. They not only replaced the strap for me within a few seconds but did it free of charge, which completely caught me by surprise. I insisted on paying but they declined. I'm a total klutz and broke the glass on the face of my boss' desk clock. My husband did some research on where we could get the glass fixed and clock inspected for damage, and he found Allen's (through Yelp of course). Allen and his wife checked the clock and determined that the only damage is the broken glass. They don't cut glass, but referred us to a glass cutting shop on Canoga. Allen care fully taped the glass together and pulled it from the clock for me so I could go get a new piece measured and cut. Lovely and kind couple. I will be back. read more

I searched around Yelp for watch repairs and it took me to Allen's Watch Clock Service. When I arrived, Allen and his wife were extremely friendly to me. My Omega watch was over 30 years old and I wanted complete service. Allen said it would take 3 weeks before I could get my watch back. I decided it would worth it since I read the official Omega store in the Topanga Mall would need to ship my watch for repair. After waiting 3 weeks, I got my watch back and it looks brand new. I am very happy with their professional service and I will recommend this husband/wife team to anyone who needs watch repair. read more
