I was SO excited to visit A&W. However, when we got there, the interior was closed for renovation, and drive thru was open. We had to moving thru the menu a bit quicker than desired in order to place our order and not hold up the line. Much to my chagrin, they don't serve RootBeer Floats!? This was my whole objective for visiting. Seems like a huge missed opportunity. Burgers were flooded with sauce to the point of reducing the palatability. My wife and I are visiting from the states and after landing our first meal was A&W. I was pretty excited because they don't have this where we are from. And I have a tendency to try different fast food chains that aren't available where we're from. We both ordered the papa bear burger, and it was basically their double hamburger. Their packaging promotes grass fed burgers. My wife thought the burgers were dry and I thought they were decent. If I were to put it into comparison, I would pick this over McDonald's and it kind of remind me of Burger King's back in their prime when they used to be good... other than that, their fries were good and crispy. read more

Don't know why it has bad ratings. Overall, pretty decent food for a fast food place. It was a casual place like any fast food joint. Our server was pretty patient with us and answered all the questions regarding the food. Got the teen burger: four stars. Pretty decent flavors with pickles, mustard, and ketchup. The burger patty was thin but juicy. They had sesame buns which I also liked. The frozen root beer was like a root beer, icy or slushy. It was pretty good. Not as sweet as the ones with the fructose corn syrup, but I was happy with the taste. I also tried their poutine (well since I'm in Canada and all). It was ok. We came here for our afternoon beverages while vacationing in Canmore. A&W is known as a root beer in the USA. In Canada, it is more like a fast food burger joint. Service was typical of a fast food restaurant. My wife liked their strawberry smoothie. I got their root beer shake. Both their smoothie and root beer shake were satisfying. This is the Canadian version of Whatburgers; it's open late and that's the advantage it has over many of the food spots in the area. The food is decent enough for what it is; the poutine was actually edible so you need to give that a 3/5. The burgers aren't terrible either; honestly around a Wendy's/ Whataburger level. read more

I came in with low expectations thinking this was going to be an ordinary fast food chain, but boy was I wrong!! Everything was served fresh. The fries, the veggies, the burgers... they were all so good. The fries and onion rings were crispy and served piping hot. The sweet potato fries are a delight. The teen burger was our fav. The patty was juicy, and the buns were toasted nicely. The root beer was crisp and refreshing. They also have a sugar free root beer option, and it actually tastes legit. We've already made two visits and will most likely be back again lol. Service is quick. We are from Texas, so the place gives off Whataburger vibes, but a much better version. read more

A&W is a Canadian-owned company. It's #1 fast food in Canada, so we have to try it once. Full disclosure - I'm not a big fan of fast food chains. There is a drive-thru at this location. We decided to go inside to order and take our time looking at the menu. It's your typical fast food with burgers, fries, sides and sugary sodas. I think the root beer float or slushy is their popular item. It was super sweet as I had expected. We all had the "Uncle" with bacon, lettuce, tomato and cheese. The beef patty was juicy but lacking sauce. The fixings were soggy by the time we got back to the house, which was only 5 minutes drive. The sweet potatoes fries was the best out of all with chipotle mayo on the side. The onion rings was too doughy and fell apart as soon as you take a bite. I am an American tourist and frankly I'm strongly reconsidering my vacation and WILL BE CERTAIN to message Our Glorious Leader Mr. Trump to ensure that Canada will only be conquered as a territory. I asked for a ROOT BEER FLOAT and apparently the people of the maple tree are UNAWARE of what real food depicts. The root beer float has changed the lives of many such as myself, introducing me to the wonders of early onset obesity and type two diabetes and thus should be world renound, so put that in your tariff and smoke it. Her majesty would be disappointed and extremely dissatisfied with the vile side eye i was given at the request for a root beer float, and while I'm thinking about what sucks about Canada, your traffic system needs some serious work. I just want to turn right on red! So what if I hit a pedestrian? If you want to complain about my driving, get off the freaking sidewalk. And finally, for a town called Canmore, this service and lack of cultural enlightenment make me think a more fitting name could be Cantmore, ya jackass. Stopped here and although the temp foreign worker seemed to understanding English but was a 20 minute wait for basics. First please fill thermos. Could you rinse it out with hot water. No. Why not cause we don't. Had to pay twice as two cup in thermous and two cups in takeaway. Maybe the temporary foreign worker program should be closed. Food not hot. Dropped in with some friends. One thing I notice is that the tables ands floors are not cleaned regularly so it doesn't give one a very good feeling to be eating tables that have not been cleaned. Otherwise staff, service and food are great!!! read more

Absolutely horrible. Extremely messy and dirty. This was our first experience of a dirty place in Canada. First, we thought it would just be the a & w that was dirty and not clean. However, we learned quickly that every place in Canada is not very clean. Canada has great outdoors but their cleanliness and service is absolutely horrible compared to the states. We're from the US, and wouldn't normally go into an A&W (stateside or elsewhere.) However, I'd heard these chains are not affiliated with the US' A&W chains, so gave it a try. The burgers were good, as were the fries... Were they super special? No. But they weren't bad. What was special, were the floats! I LOVE rootbeer floats! While in Canada, I frequented A&Ws after going here, just for the floats. If you dine in, you get a big cool frosty mug to enjoy your float in. They start with delicious and ice cold rootbeer, then add a puck of ice cream. I'm not sure what else to call it... it's not a scoop, but a preformed puck of sorts. But it's perfect. It's hard enough to not melt too quickly, and fits perfectly in the cup. The burgers were fine by me. I'd say they were typical, as were the fries. In the mood for a quick burger and basic fries, plus a float? Stop in. They let you sub your soft drink in the combo for a float. read more

Friends heard her talking bad stuff about me in front of the counter because I needed to go to the washroom while she completed my order. She became impatient even though I was gone for less than a minute. Honestly unnecessary and unprofessional. I can't really complain; for fast food it was pretty decent. Stopped in to grab some breakfast to go, the place was fairly busy for the Saturday breakfast rush. My order was accurate, fresh, hot and fast. I haven't had A&W for breakfast in years and was pleasantly surprised. Bonus was the coffee was surprisingly good, if you like yours on the stronger side like I do, much better than the colored water they call coffee provided in the hotel rooms across the street. My stop was brief but staff seemed pleasant and efficient and the restaurant looked clean. If you are taking your food to go, you may want to ask for extra ketchup and napkins as they will only give 1 per order. They also do not provide salt and pepper so if you need it make sure you ask for some or pick some up before you leave. read more

Nice service for an A&W. A lot of tourists come here as I've seen, non English speaking ones would usually have trouble ordering at most other places but the staff here seems to be really friendly and work with the pictures on the menu to help said tourists. The food is pretty good. I know it's fast food but some places it can be hit or miss, definite hit. read more

We had the sweet potato fries for $3. Then hot chocolate for $1.80 which tasted smooth and cocoa loaded. Beats the $4.5 for the large hot chocs we were paying on the ski slopes. We had the uncle burgers for $6. Has extra thick Pattie with healthier tomato and lettuce. Definitely sweet potatoes fried worth a try with the spicy mayonnaise. Well, they got *my* order right. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was up to A&W's usual standards. Mind you, I came at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, and the place was pretty quiet, so I can't speak for what the service is like during lunch or dinner rushes. Maybe the order issues were due to new staff, as the place doesn't look like it's been open for very long. If you're looking for something familiar, don't be deterred by the other reviews. My family and I made our order, mine was to take a couple minutes longer (veggie burger), which I can understand. My daughters burger never made it on the tray. Thinking this would come when mine was ready we waited. They called out for mine, went to pick it up and asked for my daughters chubby chicken burger. I was met with a rude woman saying it should have been given to us already. I said no and she continued to argue about it with me. Saying why didn't I say something and sighing a lot like this isn't the first conversation she has had about this type of thing. She finally looked behind her and saw a chubby chicken burger alone on the prep table and grabbed it and not very gently tossed it in front of me with a "here" being all I got out of her.
