"The Boss" is the 600 lb grizzly in the area that has lived 25 years, gotten hit by freight trains twice and has sired 73% of the grizzlies in the area. We came here on a Saturday night after hiking all day. It was our last dinner in Banff before heading back to Calgary for our flights so we got dressed up a bit. Our waiter, Georgia, was great. She was so friendly and accommodating. The Bison Short Rib's presentation wasn't great. Not sure if it fell over before it got to the table but they did not plate it in an appetizing way. The bison was tender; however, this wasn't a moist meat but it wasn't super dry, I guess, because this is a more lean meat. The broccolini and mashed potatoes were good sides. read more

The Boss kitchen and bar is a great stop with a fabulous view. Downstairs they have an evening happy hour that starts at 9 PM. Since the sun goes down much later at this latitude, we chose the upstairs where we could actually see the sunset. I've forgotten her name now, but we had a really sweet, tall, slender Australian girl/server take great care of us. We had eaten wayyy too many wings earlier that day so we chose to share and enjoy an amazing beef carpaccio that had extraordinary flavor with the garlic truffle seasoning. Bbq pork ribs are quite tender, a bit dry but are still very good. Bison ribeye served medium, it's the type of dish I always order when visiting Banff. Bison short ribs are very tender. They are served with mashed potatoes and asparagus on the side. Service is commendable, we were greeted with a smile and checked on a few times during the whole time we were there. Dined here for a quick brunch before leaving Banff to drive back to the Calgary airport. The server was very sweet and attentive. The space was cozy and located upstairs from the bar area. I ordered the eggs Benny with bacon but when it arrived it had bison meat on the English muffins. I let the server know and she removed the charge for the bacon (I had added it thinking there was no meat due to the menu description). The dish was tasty but was very rich so I couldn't finish it. Their potato cubes served alongside were so good and I always appreciate greens with breakfast. Would return to try other dishes on the menu! read more

The boss kitchen was a great first meal in canada. we had the bbq chicken pizza which was very good but had this white sauce on it that i wasn't a fan of. We also split a poutine which we upgraded to have bison on it. Our waiter was very friendly and got us our food fast. the restaurant had a small dining area with a bar and then upstairs area which i did not get to see. Food was quite good! Tons of options here! I enjoyed the chicken parm, the pesto linguine that came with it was probably the best part! Margarita pizza was great as well. Service was good, staff were friendly. There is a bar and small seating area downstairs that I believe is the same business and then a larger floor space upstairs that overlooks the strip which is very cool! (Can't remember if I saw an elevator to the 2nd floor or not so if that's something you require I'd call and ask). Got to Banff late tonight and this was the only place serving food past 10pm which made it our first stop of the trip! Looking forward to trying out all the other restaurants this week! read more

Located on Wolf Street this restaurant has a main floor and a second floor. I ordered the beet salad, linguine, and the 6 Oz steak. Rhe beet salad had so much potential, but no dressing 4/5. The linguine was kind of bland, 3/5 . The steak was bizarre. It came with mash potatoes, secret sauce and broccoli. No idea what the secret sauce was cause it tasted terribly and the steak was chewy, 2/5. Very disappointing. The service staff was delightful and polite. read more

We came in pretty late from a long day and happened to luck out with late night happy hour. We definitely over ordered but we took the rest to go and it made for even better left overs. Loved the poutine and that it came with waffle fries! Def a larger portion than I was expecting! The pork belly app was tender and might have been my favorite dish! The burger with jam was delicious and loved the different elements. Sweet potato fries were great too. The bolognese also really hit the spot. Our server was really friendly and helpful as well. From other comments and our experience, I feel like this could be a hit or miss. We walked in because the menu looked pretty good. The place looks very new and everything is nice. Our server was so sweet but we could tell she was so busy. They had just opened the outside seating but were short staffed so she had to keep going in and out. The salad we got and pasta were pretty good. The spinach and artichoke dip was good however the chips were not really cooked. It was a little strange. We told our server because they were so soft and hard to bite through and she brought us more which were a little better but some were still super soft. She was so sweet and took them off our bill because she said they weren't supposed to be like that. We also ordered Banff burgers to go which were good. I think they might be new and starting to get everything worked out. But pretty good and hopefully getting even better! read more

Maybe I was ravenous from a long hike, or maybe this place was truly a grand slam. Amazing ambience. If you're smart, you'll ask for a booth by the window and check out the rugged mountains as you feast. Got the poutine with bison short rib to start. How could you go wrong with waffle fries in a meaty gravy sauce and cheese curds? We followed with the burgers. Amazing sear on them and they were all dressed with high quality spread and vegetables. Even the salads were popping with flavor. Our server seemed a bit new and aloof, but the others seemed to be handling the dinner rush. Didn't affect the experience much. Very nicely appointed restaurant with two floors to choose from. Goat cheese and beet salad was fresh and huge! The crust on the pizzas is fantastic -- perfectly baked, slightly salted, and so light and crispy! The clam chowder was a significant miss (dropped a star), it was bland and had almost no clams. Really nice place but I feel like the carnivore dishes are lacking. First night I had the Ny strip, overcooked . A couple nights later I went back for the bison short ribs. They were dry add chewy, so sad. I really want to like this place but they need to up their meat game. Avacado tacos are a game changer. read more

Great restaurant especially if you staying near the Moose hotel where restaurants are a little further away. Has both 1st and 2nd floor. Lots of big tables for parties of 6-8 along with lots of booths for party of 4. Food was great. Bison burger, steak, wings was great. Local draft beers available. Service was also good. Service here was great! Our waitress came over to help us as she saw the regular waiter/waitress for our area was so swamped and we were waiting a little longer than their expectations. The food is decent bar/pub food. I had the smash burger and it was about what I'd expect. My parents enjoyed their food as well. Their bison burger had a great crisp/crunchy texture that I'm not sure what it was from (maybe the sear on the patty). The poutine gravy was a little salty though only thing I'd dock points for. Sitting outside for lunch in September was awesome. Great vibe and scenery to eat lunch in. We saw a bunch of dogs walking by which is always nice. Made me miss my dog back home. When other rest's close at 9pm on Banff Ave, head here from 9pm-11pm for their late night happy hour menu. Stumbled upon this bc I was frustrated rest'ts closed at 9pm, and was walking the side streets. Get the poutine w braised short ribs-SO good! My family and I visited Banff for 9 days and happened to stop in The Boss to get out of the rain. Wow. I'm so glad the rain pushed us in this restaurant. We visited The Boss four more times during our stay. The pizza was our favorite. It was perfectly cooked and the crust is salted. Service was very friendly and the owner stopped by to check on us to see if we were happy with everything. The whole place is very clean, and the top floor could accommodate our party at a large round table. We are going to be dreaming of the Boss until we can get back to Banff! read more

We liked how there were options to sit at either the downstairs or upstairs bar - we chose upstairs. Service was very slow -- after being seated for about 50 minutes, we had only received one 3-oz drink each, and our server never returned to check if we wanted additional drinks. The bison sliders were very good; however, the scallops and pork belly were disappointing. The scallops were overcooked, and the pork belly was dry. Checked out The Boss in Banff, which just opened this week. The place still looked brand new and had a clean, open feel. Not totally our vibe, but it was nice enough. We both started with an espresso martini. It wasn't amazing, but it was alright. For food, we had burgers, one spicy chicken and one with a regular beef patty. The maple syrup on the burger wasn't really our thing, but others might like the sweet touch. Service was super friendly and made the visit pleasant overall. The service was not great. The servers were good. They were friendly and welcoming. However, it was very loud because a big group took up half of the upstairs space. The drinks however were really good. One person got the strawberry smash and said that it was good. The other drinks the other people in my party they all said that they were great. As an appetizer we got the poutine with bison short ribs and regular poutine. They were really good. They were waffle fries with cheese and gravy. They were good and the highlight of our dinner. However, it took at least 45 minutes to get our main food and they didn't say anything about the wait time. They also kept running out of food after we ordered. I ordered the Mac and cheese and the waitress went to go check if they had Mac and cheese. They did not and so I ordered chicken tenders. I'll get back to those in a second. The person next to me ordered duck wings, and they ran out of those. So he had to order another order of chicken wings. However the wings were good. Two people in my party had ordered the beet salad and about 10 minutes before our food came they said that they had ran out of beet salad. So only one of them could get it. The person who didn't get it got like a regular house salad. Nothing special but she got charged with a beet salad. So that again we will get back to. The beet salad was good. The burger was okay. A person had gotten the bison short rib and it was cold, it felt like it had been cooked and prepared a full 12 minutes before and not brought out. Now back to the chicken tenders. First of all, they looked like they had been frozen and microwaved. They were dry, the breading wasn't great, and at home I have way better ones. Next, I can't express how gross the texture was. It was the classic cafeteria fish stick from grade school. They were dry though so even worse. Now on to the salad. They decided to charge her for the beet salad even though she didn't get beets. Although she did get a decent amount of goat cheese. The general manager after asking her to come over got our checks right, which I am thankful for. She then was happy to refund the things that we had to substitute. I am really frustrated at this experience and hope that they do better in the future. read more

We were looking for a place that had a little of everything for the family and we found it at The Boss. I had a steak-medium rare- and it was perfectly cooked. My wife had the foraged salad and loved it. The kids had the spicy chicken wrap and a burger. Both thought the food was great. I also want to shout out the staff. Our drinks were never empty and Sam checked in often. We sat upstairs and there is a terrific view. We highly recommend this place. read more

The chicken was funky parts of chicken with an odd taste. the poutine without the chicken would have been a 3 but the chicken was so bad it made the poutine a 1. The poutine wasn't served warm enough either. The beer was smooth and cold. The prime rib sandwich was served hot with hot fresh delicious fries. The sandwich was probably a 3 - beef was ok but not seasoned very well. Happened to park near The Boss so I thought I'd give it a shot. So glad I did. The bison burger was amazing and the maple old-fashioned was one of the best old-fashions I've ever had (the ice cube was definitely unique). Many restaurants think they are accommodating those of us looking for vegan friendly items by offering the same item - the Impossible burger. Predictable, and worn out. It's a half-assed attempt at satisfying this part of their clientele. On top of the fact that it doesn't differentiate them, why would I want to dine out only to order something I can buy at the grocery store!! We had two great experiences at The Boss. When we arrived, we set to find a place to eat and chanced upon the Boss. The staff could not have been friendlier, accommodating or helpful. Ryan seated us, and came back to check on us several times. Bonnie, our server the first visit, was great at talking about the dishes, and cautioned me the spicy chicken tacos were spicy, and suggested the aioli be on the side so I could try and taste. The food was delicious and with such friendly staff, we came back another night and Freya was our server. Again, she was friendly and personable with a great knowledge of the food. We were delighted to also see Bonnie again. The second floor has some great views and the ground floor was more sports bar feeling with three tvs tuned to the Jays/Dodgers game. read more
