We had a great time and meal at Tavern 1883. We planned to stop just for drinks before dinner, but then our server, Zoe, suggested a few apps. The butter chicken fries are among the best things I've ever eaten. The burnt ends, maple sriracha chicken wings and Montreal smoked meat and truffle oil poutine were also quite delicious. Stopped in for a late lunch while vacationing nearby. We were greeted and seated as soon as we walked in. Staff is welcoming, friendly, helpful and attentive. Street parking only. This was my first time eating in Canmore and came here based on other reviews. Sat outside on the patio and ordered a beer and the Canadian Burger. The food was delicious, however the service ended once I got my meal. I was glad I got a beer and a water because no one came back after food was served. It then took forever to get the check to finally leave. The table next to us had the wrong order brought to them twice before finally getting it right the third time. We came here early evening on a Sunday and the place was pretty packed! You couldn't tell from the outside parking area though. Upon entry we were greeted almost immediately. When we arrived there weren't any available tables so we were seated at the bar but did request a table spot upon availability. That saying, it didn't take long for some table spots to open up and within 5 mins of arriving we were seated at a table. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. I noticed that they have some great deals and events throughout the week including 40% off the entire menu during happy hour. Unfortunately we had just missed this. We ordered "the platter". Our waitress warned us that it was massive and she sure was not kidding! For $60 you get 1lb of wings, 1 rack of ribs, 3 slabs of brisket (although it looked more like prime rib?) fries, fried pickles, and brussels sprouts with arugula. There were only 2 of us but this was enough to easily feed 3 maybe 4 people depending how hungry you are. We ended up taking 1/3 of it home. I did notice by looking around though that the portion sizes are pretty large and most people did not finish their plates. The burgers also looked to be quite popular as every other person seemed to have ordered it. Back to the food, this was one of the BEST meals that we had in Canmore. The flavour of everything was spectacular. The meat was extremely tender and sliced liked butter. We went with the truffle honey aioli and it paired so well with everything. I could not get enough of it. My recommendation is to eat as much as you can at the restaurant as it doesn't hold up well when reheated. My only feedback is that it would've been nice if they put the fries off to the side or in a separate bowl instead of under the ribs and salad. Due to this the fries weren't crispy which kind of sucked. There is an outdoor patio with heaters and lights. There is also a fire pit out there. The restaurant definitely had a tavern feel. I will definitely make this a regular stop when I visit Canmore. read more

Found down a one way small side road that looks like a alley. The outside has a huge patio in front of a renovated old house converted to a tavern. Was a little drizzly when we showed up so the patio was closed. We sat inside, was very busy with lunch rush. Sat at a high table close to the entrance. The high chairs weren't very comfortable we kept sliding off, that's the minus one star. Waitress was very friendly took our drink and food orders. This was our first spot we came in Canmore for dinner and a drink. We got a bison burger, regular burger, and veggie burger. My friend said the veggie burger was good. Both me and my other friend liked the bison burger better than the regular burger. I got beet salad as a side and it was really good. I would probably get a full beet salad as an entree if I went back. My friend got the poutine which I didn't really like that much. We split the fried pickles as an app and they were probably the best dish, besides the beet salad. A really nice coating that didn't fall apart (as happens with fried pickles often) and came out piping hot. They had a nice selection of beer, as well. Server was friendly. They had live music starting right before we left which is always nice. It's a solid choice if you're in Canmore and want pub food and a drink. read more
