I'm a driver from the UK but haven't driven in over 3 years since coming to CA. I passed first time after four or five refresher lessons with Alex to get used to driving on the other side of the road, and practice the rules of the road that are different in CA (e.g. turning right on a red light). He was always punctual for my lessons, with good availability and flexibility around my schedule. He knows the local DMV routes well, and prepared me well for exactly the things that came up in the test. I used two cars in the lessons: a Prius which was really great to drive (which I used for the test), and an older white car which wasn't in as good condition. Still, I guess it's good to get experience in different cars. Only downsides were poor transparency around pricing (cash prices he quoted were different to what was quoted on the website), and he asked "if you pass will I get a tip?" 10 mins before I took my test (after I had just paid him $245 for the lesson and test). Then he said "only this?" when I gave him a $20 tip, which is all I had. It was awkward. The lessons are already expensive and I am a stay at home mom with two young kids to feed. I feel to pressurize people for more money (rather than let them offer it as a genuine tip for good service) is in poor taste. Covid: Alex did require masks to be worn which was good, but I never once saw him wipe down the steering wheel and other high- touch areas in between students. As soon as one student finished, the next one jumps straight in. Overall still a good service, but a few improvements could be made to make it a 5 star experience. read more

I would give this zero stars if I could. I wish I got my instructors name but he visibly made me nervous, i was afraid of making any mistake which led me to make more mistakes because if I made a mistake, he would get very passive aggressive talk to me like I was a child. I'm not a fast learner but I was constantly shaky and nervous, but I didn't feel that way when doing lessons with my parents and that says a lot. He would also try to insist me to do more lessons with him and I just wasn't comfortable Any mistake I made, he'd tell me aggressively "why did u do it wrong" or "did you not see that?" Instead, he could've talked it out with me calmly and not tell me things that would make me feel so dumb, so I wouldn't have to feel afraid, maybe I would've done it better the next time. But no I just felt more and more afraid of not being perfect which only set me to do it wrong all over again because being too nervous/anxious can mess you up and having an instructor that isn't so nice doesn't help. I would come home crying and mentally beating myself up for not being perfect. It was the tone and the body language as well, as an instructor, it's one thing to teach someone and explain, but it's the way you deliver it that matters. I booked Alex a day before my DMV behind the wheels test, not only did he gaslight me into thinking that the minor errors i've made are considered automatic fails and that i would fail my behind the wheels test. He also tried to sell me 2 to 3 more lessons, after doubting my capabilities and making me feel more anxious about if i'll pass or not, something I didn't struggle with before meeting him. Another complaint was that the car was old and I had to practice with the windows down despite the fact it was a very hot day to the point that I was sweating when I was wearing just a shirt. Lastly, he wanted me to tip him 50 dollars on top of the overpriced classes I had to pay with a guy who tried to discourage me from my driver's test because he said I would fail. Despite how much of a discouraging driver's instructor he is I pushed through with my exam. Passed my behind the wheels test today with 2 out of 15 possible mistakes. read more

First off not sure which place to review since there are so many listed. My son needed to attend driving school after completing his permit, I told him to do his research and get back to me. He found this one, and since it was cheaper I agreed. Normally, I do exhaustive research on, well, almost everything but thought I'd allow him to learn. Oi! $299 later and really no information other than our payment was made I figured it was a SCAM! I called the number on the website only to be directed to a cell phone of a man who seemed to be in a car. I told him my son purchases this plan and I would like to be refunded. He said it would take 10 days before I could. I tried to stop payment at bank but since it's a debit card it already went through on my end. Lots of back and forth and reading reviews I again tried the number and the man gave me a number to the office (geez louise!!!). Spoke with a very nice lady who calmed my fears and said he's the driver he doesn't really know schedule so she booked my appointments right away. At the first appointment a different car arrived than I was previously told. I took photos of the plates and called the office to confirm he was their instructor. Alex is his name and though I'm sure he is experienced, he was quite rude. He told me the dates I wanted needed to be changed and I said no, I've already reserved the times that work for our schedule with the office. Let's just say, he got a bit flustered with my "back talk". Lesson went fine according to my meek son, but said the driver changed the days and times. UMMM, NO! I called office today thought we are sticking to my days (though she changed time today) and getting a different instructor. The 2 STARS are for the nice office lady. Oh wait! They changed both last days and times! So, if you're not willing to go by their schedule at a whim JUST DON'T! Apparently my son just drove previous person home and back roads back from Fremont. My advice: Save yourself the headache, pay an additional $80-$100 to a different driving school. The savings is SO not worth it. read more

I give it one star only because not only did he answer the phone (other schools don't call back or answer) and we got a same day lesson. Beware to these companies that have same day because I called a better one and he's booked into September. First complaint: he has those roller massage bead car covers on both driver seat and passenger seat. My daughter is 16 and said it was so uncomfortable and she was not use to that feeling. Second complaint by her because I obviously wasn't driving with them: he wasn't giving her a lesson, he was talking in another language on the phone and texting the entire time. Really???? I'm glad she learns from me now! Third complaint: it was at the traffic hour on a hot day while he had her drive to Hayward from CV, he made her have her window down, her hair flying everywhere with no air conditioning. She said he was very pushy and felt uncomfortable. Fourth and the best compliant yet: he only took cash, didn't give us a receipt and didn't sign her permit which is required of first lesson for you to drive. Ugh! We had to meet him half way later that evening on Tennyson and while I was driving there he knew I was meeting him he kept calling me and asking me where I was so annoying. This was a bad experience all around. I paid for the classes online and I didn't hear from them for a week. Until I called them. Eventually they got back to me and and we scheduled the times. I paid $349 for 6 hours and Alex told me the real price was $399 that the website had the wrong price. He said I have to pay 60 when i only owed him 50. He was on his phone a lot of the time when i was driving. he would get upset at me for things he didn't explain. He would take me to someone else's house and tell me to get in the back so they can drive. He didn't let me drive for the whole time I paid for. He kept trying to give more lessons for 200+ each time. He said he would take me to my driving test but he asked for another 200. Can't trust this guy or the company. read more

My 15 year old is just starting to drive, so please pray for me (and for you if you live in Northern California). We learned that even to have a permit you have to do your "behind the wheel" training, so we reached out to Alex. He and his staff were fast and courteous. We signed our daughter up with A California Driving School for her 6hrs behind the wheel training so she could receive her certificate and take her driving test with DMV. She had both Alex & Hela as her trainers for the 6 hrs. They both were very helpful & friendly as well as on time to pick up our daughter. Once her 6 hrs was completed we signed her up with Alex for additional behind the wheel training and to take her to her to her DMV appointment for her drivers licenses. Reached out to A California Driving School 10 years ago. Met with Alex. Alex is very professional and knowledgeable. I was a little bit intimidated with him in the beginning haha, but this guys means business. He's very friendly and all, but when it's time to drive, it's time to focus and learn. Until now, I still practice the same way he taught me how to drive. For example, switching lanes (signal, look at the rear mirror, side mirror, over your shoulders, then when it's safe to turn do so) and especially looking for bikers and pedestrians before doing so. I also had recommended my father who's been driving his whole life in the Philippines. He was so a little to confident about passing the actual, but I still forced him to at least take one class so Alex can help him to drive around the DMV area and go over the rules. And of course, he passed! He said that if he didn't take that one time class with Alex, he would have failed. Ales is great at what he does. He is very patient and committed to helping you pass, and I will say committed to help you be a SAFE DRIVER. My sister is turning 16 and I will definitely reach out to A California Driving school again. Never once got pulled over/received a ticket with years of driving! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR STUDENT DRIVERS!!! Very Professional teachers that won't make you panic at all and they understand that you're still a student and you are still learning. I re-located to the US in the month of March this year and I was searching for a good driving school around Fremont and I contacted 'A California Driving School' and they clearly explained the process like first I have to take the online test for permit and then behind the wheel test. After a month I contacted the driving school again with my permit and they assigned 'Alex' as the instructor. Alex is very professional and friendly and when it is time to drive he will provide proper instructions and guide you to drive safely with all required maneuvers. When you are close to the DMV test date Alex will take you to all the DMV routes where you can get to drive and he will point out all the mistakes that you can correct. Alex is very patient and he will be with you on the day of the test and if the slot is in the afternoon for the driving test Alex will take you to drive in the DMV route at least 1 or 2 times before the test so that you don't feel nervous and tensed. I passed the driving test on my first attempt and all the credit goes to Alex for his lessons and instructions. Pros: -teacher always on time and pretty easy going. -you get reimbursed for the first class if you are not satisfied., which is really cool. If you have a lot of experience driving and just need some practice then I recommend this class. Cons: If you are a beginner, this school is not for you.
