My husband and I stopped by A Cup of Joe hoping to enjoy a great coffee experience, sadly, that wasn't the case. The place itself looks cool, with a stylish black and white aesthetic and a great logo (we loved the skull sipping from the cup). The space is large, though the tables are quite small, but that didn't bother us. What really brought our rating down to one star was the quality and service. We ordered an Americano, a latte, and a chocolate croissant. The shop was nearly empty, and most of the people there were already seated and drinking, so we expected a quick turnaround. Still, we patiently waited around 15 minutes. We're not even upset about the wait -- it happens -- but when we got our order, the croissant wasn't even warm (which should be the minimum at any coffee shop). Even worse was the coffee: flavorless, barely warm, and closer to bland flavored water than anything resembling a proper brew. I really like how they have the restaurants set up inside. There's parking on Archer and then you can find more on the side street. I've had good experiences here with fast, friendly service but the last time it. My daughter and I about a year ago we were placing an order to go because we're going other places so we no eating there. I went to use the bathroom and the door was locked. When I asked for the key I was told that the bathroom was for customers and I said we are a customer. We're just not eating here, was told the same thing again. So we canceled our order and left and haven't been back. It's a shame because it's the only specialty coffee shop in the Garfield Ridge area. Unexpectedly great stop when looking for a cafe leaving Chicago Midway en route to our first destination. And not busy at all around 10 am on Saturday morning. We had a bacon egg and cheese on a brioche bun which was very tasty. But the real star of the show was the drink: "La Toxica" which is a mix of their house made horchata and house made Mexican cafe de olla. It had to be served iced and in a larger size than I thought I would consume but it ended up being so good that I did almost finish it. The staff was very friendly. This seemed liked it would be a cool place to hang out if you're local. Plenty of different kinds of seating as well. read more

Ive been here a few times due to it being the closest locally owned shop in my neighborhood, the drinks and food are average, good enough to have no complaints, but the service has always been consistently slow. Even just waiting for a coffee drink when the place doesn't seem particularly busy takes 15+ mins. If I need to grab and go, I'd opt for going to a Dunkin or Starbucks. read more

Went in for a cafe de olla and a mazapán latte. The latte was good but I couldn't taste any espresso. The coffee was sweeter than I'm used to. The space is big and bright though and the service was friendly and relatively fast. I probably wouldn't return but it would be a great spot for someone who likes sweeter coffee. read more

We were very excited to try it. Upon entering, we were not necessarily greeted nor did the shop have a welcoming environment. While ordering, it seemed like we were inconveniencing the employee by asking more about their menu and items. I understand she could have been having a bad day, but her customer service was not helpful or nice. (the coffee shop was not even busy for us to feel a bit rushed and dismissed). We had lattes which tasted like milk and syrup, i hate to agree with other reviews but the same level of "coffee" is available at Mcdonald's or Dunkin. I would add 2-3 more shots of espresso if you are a coffee lover. Cafe de olla was good, could have had less of a burnt taste. We did not ask for it to be remade due to the service already received beforehand. Bagels were average. Reasonable prices compared to other coffee shops. read more

Need a quick spot to do some work when I arrived in Chicago. My friend recommended this locally owned coffee shop. I definitely looked at the pictures with reviews and thought there would be tamales and tacos on their menu but I didn't look at the actual menu on their website. Definitely stop by their site to see what interests you. I opted for a latte and ham and cheese croissant. The latte was very weak and the sandwich was just okay. This was a fine set up for working but I wish they had solid food and drink options. The staff were great but I wouldn't visit again because of the food and drink selection. read more
