Moody lighting, good music, good coffee, and plenty of seating. The bathroom was acceptably clean, theres games to be played, and it looks like Friendly's is an active member of the community by hosting music, crafting, and other events. They are also dog friendly which was very distracting to my work but a wonderfully welcome one. The cafe and bar are connected by a doorway so I wonder if the seating on both sides is available in the morning for the cafe and for the bar in the evening? Cute place, I'll be back. read more

Cozy coffee shop that's open late. It's attached to the shop's music school and also bar. When it gets dark, the scene starts to change as the cafe patrons lessen and the bar patrons increase. The live music performance was lovely; didn't get the name of the band, but they sounded great. read more

Friendly Coffee Lounge is a great name for this place. Located in Berwyn IL. My first visit and I felt the warm hospitality. There were people sitting at tables working and looked up and smiled. This is not only a coffee shop but on the other side is a bar and upstairs a music school. A one shop place for entertainment throughout the week. Spoken word on Wednesday night at 8pm. It's a comfortable place to come and bring your laptop to work. Or meet a friend and grab a cup of coffee or latte and sit down and chat. I ordered the latte it was delicious and flavorful. Friendly staff, nice welcoming customers, nice music, Great place to work/study. It's a must that I come back for Spoken word night. Let me not forget Rob the owner is amazing. This is the cutest coffee shop I've ever stepped foot in. It feels like a place where everyone knows your name and treats you like family. My friend had the Mexican spicy mocha and I had the mochonut frappe! Everything was incredible. Kim made incredible coffees all while enhancing our experiences with riveting conversation and incredible advice. She let us know that they have live music on Sundays starting at 3PM and open mics on Wednesday. They have an extensive coffee list and desserts. They even have a bookcase full of games! Stopped in here because I was in town for an appointment - will I be driving 45 minutes out here regularly now? Yes I feel like this is that coffee shop you think of when you think of 'home' and that is something I yearn for so much so that's really great! After a late flight into Chicago and an overnight at a sparse Forest Park AirBnB, I was desperate for coffee and stumbled onto Friendly. And my trip instantly became better. Rob, the owner, is friendly, welcoming, and kind- we had a great chat while he prepped my Mexican Mocha (which was delicious! Very grateful for the selection of non-dairy milk, too). The breakfast burrito was a welcome change from the usual sweet pastry offerings of most coffee places. The locals in here were all fun and welcoming. And the *atmosphere*! This place reminds me of the best coffee houses I went to in college- relaxed, great music, cozy, unique aesthetic, plenty of seating, and a ton of personality. I really want to come back so I can experience live music here (another thing from my 90s/00's coffee houses). If I ever move to the area, this would absolutely be my local coffee shop where I'd hang out to write, or socialize with friends after work. I peeked into the adjacent (connected) music school and bar spaces, which are separated from each other via open doorways. They both looked similarly clean, funky, and welcoming. It's very rare that I get to have a whole place sort of to myself, where I can drink coffee, do work and just lounge, so when it happens I thank my lucky stars and let out a giant internal squeal. This is my kind of space. Homey yet vibrant. Not too loud or too quiet. Cool art. Comfortable seating. Amazing playlist. I didn't even bother to put in my earphones because I enjoyed the American folk and blues they played on the speakers. I opted for an iced mocha, which was delicious and quite a steal! For $4, I snagged a 20oz with 3 shots of espresso. The lady asked me if I wanted anywhere between 2-4 shots, and amazingly enough, each shot didn't cost extra. They use coffee from local roaster Bridgeport Coffee. I would definitely come back again! read more

Friendly Coffee Lounge Slide show: ancient brick walls that exhale music (no chrome in sight except for a dial on a sound mixer and some light fixtures); a sofa on a small stage, a narrow long table with a comfy bench and chairs from a school cafeteria, scattered tables (a couple painted with the Union Jack on top) and side tables with stools; a dart board below a "Rock and Roll Blvd" street sign; a fireplace going on the tv some mornings, dark on others; pictures of Hank Williams and Dylan on one side and a wall-sized mural of Friendly with lots of cats on the other; all in a large, slightly dim room. Pleasant music of folk rock (Radio Paradise Mellow) some days, 70s/80s rock on others, is playing but it all fits the atmosphere. On another morning, before a music circle, it was easy-going Country with the likes of Cash, Williams, and Pride (Odd, how I've missed this music even though I was never raised on it). A number of people come here to work on their computers, besides me. Some come in early to talk or read. Other regulars just come in as part of their morning perambulations. There is even an adjacent music school space where Yoga is taught. The straight up coffee is slightly astringent, very drinkable, and served in large cups that say, "Love you to the Moon." The early barista/owner ("the place owns me") is Rob, who asks your name and to whom everyone talks. The atmosphere is warm with a feeling that is eponoumous. (Lily is sometimes the early morning barrister, and she's just as genial as you'd expect.) Cozy and comfortable slide to mind and never leave. Rob's understated purpose is to make you feel that your presence is valued, and he certainly succeeds. The muffins are large, nondescript cakes, and I could only wish the homey atmosphere extended to the noshes. Be here on Saturday mornings throughout the winter for the wonderful Farmer's Market Music Circle (when the Oak Park Market has closed): guitars, banjos, harmonica, fiddle, mandolin, piano accordion, vocal--about 12 musicians who all play against each other beautifully. I can't think of a better spot for them--or me. read more

So I found this quirky little coffee shop that offers free story times, inexpensive coffee, free parking for cars and inside for stroller parking, and is totally little kid friendly. Karaoke, board games, booze and coffee (It's is attached to a bar), a clean bathroom, and super friendly staff and owner. The name is Friendly and it's near Oak Park Ave. on Roosevelt on the edge of Berwyn and Oak Park. I love the place and wish I would have found it years ago. He treated us like we were in the wrong for being concerned about Covid and asking him to take precautions. I know within the first 30 seconds of walking in a new coffee shop if I'm going to come back or not. I wanted to live here once I came in. I felt like I was in "That 70s Show" and Ashton was going to join me on the couch (I WISH.) The entire place was just cozy feeling from the retro couches, to the sweet mural on the wall, the vintage pac man machine, board games, and just all the different types of seating arrangements. I came in to dive deep in my laptop and cross off the to-do list today. WiFi worked great! I made a friend across the tables who kindly shared the password :) I was maxed on coffee when I came in so I ordered an iced green tea with mint. SO refreshing! The barista, Lindsey was very friendly and she told me about how this place is pet friendly!! Can it get any cooler? The prices are way better then the big chains as well and the taste is and quality is way better. In this day and age, it is rare to find a local place that has the natural, unpretentious, chill vibe. Thankfully, this place has such and has thus been christened my neighborhood chill spot. Upon entrance, I was greeted by the barista/bartender who engaged in a friendly chat with me while I decided which tea I wanted. Both the menu and the payment options were straightforward. I should warn you though, cash is king here, so make sure to bring a few bucks. However, the prices are so reasonable that you wouldn't need to bring a giant wad of cash either. I also appreciated that I could have a "good girl" tea/coffee, or I could spice things up with liquor as well. I traveled alone, so I focused on getting on the Wi-fi and doing some work online, but they also have space for small groups to play board games or study together. They also have community events where local groups gather to learn or listen to good music. I was even impressed by the diverse playlist of classic rock. Definitely plan to go back soon :) read more
