I went here when traveling from California to Texas. Arizona is ridiculously hot and for some reason my brain told me I'd be able to make that trip through the desert with a wave cap,sunscreen, and prayer. WRONG. I went to social media asking a bunch of friends where to get cut. One friend stood out as his hair is always on point. After leaving the gentrified area and finding Roosevelt's didn't have time to give me a low even I darted here. Traffic was rough and I thought I wasn't going to make it and Josh took me in. I asked him to clean me up and expected to be out in maybe 10-15 minutes. Thinking the cut was done I almost got up. That man spent like a good half hour shaving me, lining me, going back to clean off the little stray top hairs, even out and primping me. In Sacramento a cut costs maybe 25-35 dollars and they barely look at you or give much thought to your cut unless you really ask for it and tip a lot. This dude did God's work on my head. It's been like 3.5 months since I had that haircut and I still have flashbacks. It's almost to the point I want to tell other barber's about it or get a rental in Phoenix just to have him cut me. I think he charged me 20 dollars and I felt so good after that haircut I gave him 40 or 45. I can't remember because my head was that hot! At any rate, this man is amazing and just takes a sh*t on other barbers. It's really that simple. Go to A Cut Above. Ask for Josh. Tip him well so he can keep cutting like that and still have really nice shoes. Well worth it. read more

Took my two year old for a cut. We got right in with Boise. Boise was super patient with my squirmy son. Usually getting my sons hair cut seems like it takes an eternity, but Boise went with the flow of the squirms and we were in and out in about 20 mins, on top of that, my sons hair looks great and Boise even took the time to style his hair. 100% will come back. My husband came here for a cut and the two barbers inside didn't say one word to him or even me. My husband is from Africa and these two barbers were black, but they shared sideways glances at each other any time my husband spoke. I assume this was because of his accent or even his way of responding in general? And then when he was a bit bothered that the barber took the liberty to fade his neck without asking, the guy cutting his hair looked at the other barber like my husband was a total idiot. I don't know what their deals were but they were super unfriendly and seemed to judge us both for unknown reasons. We will not be back. read more

I go into the barber and the wait for someone's hair to be finished, which happens to be an additional hour. I'm next and tell the guy what I want done to my hair. I told him I wanted the sides of my hair to be straight and not rounded off. Any barber knows what rounding off the sides mean in a fade and I made it perfectly clear that was not what I wanted. I'm in the chair for a good 45 minutes and so much time and effort is given into my cut. The guy immediately places gel into top of my hair without asking and come to find out he is using the gel to help guide him through the rest of the hair cut. The guy finishes my hair and spikes my hair in the middle of my head, which result in a fohawk/mohawk! The price for the haircut was $15 and they did not have any change so out of decency i ended up leaving him a $20, which was a $5 tip. If you are the type of person who describes to your barber how you want your hair to look, maybe this place is not for you. I am very displeased, feel very embarrassed, and may have to get it fixed or wear a bag over my head! Oh, I also drove around on Priest and University looking for the damn place because yelp guides you to a false location. read more

Best quality cut I've ever had. Period. I live in Tucson and I still drive all the way up here for my haircut. H (The owner) has a steady hand and really takes his time, you really feel like it's a special experience. The cut is professional and H is very courteous. When he used to work in Tucson I had a custom design in the side of my head and he executed it flawlessly nothing is too much for him to handle. I have had short cuts, mohawks, and now long parted hair so I know he is good with all styles. He is also good at edging up and lining up my beard. There's nothing like that fresh shot of confidence when you go into a weekend with the perfect haircut, and he has delivered without fail for seven years for me. The only negative is that there can be a bit of a wait in the afternoons and weekend. I have never been here for a shave, nor do I know if it is offered. read more

i've been going to elite for a while but decided i needed a new shop after too many mistakes and some casual racism from one of their barbers that came out during some military story. this place on the other hand is legit and H was cool. the shop is painted orange which looks sick. secondly, i'm pretty quiet so i like that the barbers have ongoing bantz while i'm waiting + getting cut. the barbers all seemed friendly and H didn't give me any weird looks or uncomfortable questions even though my hair is really long on top + it's obvious i haven't had a cut in months and i was shaggy af. cut felt + looked nice and he asked questions to make sure he knew what i meant but was relaxed when i didn't have preferences. thx, i'll be back. read more

Visiting Arizona so I needed a cut. Went to the guy in the first chair and he completely butchered my cut. Asked for a simple mid fade and he gives me the most unaesthetic fade I've ever received while simultaneously F'ing up my front edge. Sides are completely uneven. Probably did a terrible job because he didn't care and was listing bf to his headphones the whole time. Also didn't say a word besides asking what I "wanted". Will never pull up here ever again and will never recommend this establishment. Avoid it at all cost. I can't say whether or not they are great at cutting hair, my guess based on the other reviews is yes. I walked in and there were two guys cutting. There were 4 people waiting. I felt uncomfortable because I received no acknowledgment other than brief eye contact. I don't mind waiting, but I had to ask for them to even give me an approximation. Just received a fresh taper fade from Josh at A Cut Above Barbershop. Great customer service, affordable pricing and a very clean cut. Arrived around 9:30/10am and didn't have to wait long at all.
