So it is paramount that you get a home inspector that will 1. be straight with you and 2. not overcharge you for unneeded things to pad their invoices 3. be straight with you (you get the idea). Karen and Peter are experienced, honest, know what they're doing, are reliable (they show up when they say they'll be there!), and they don't screw around. If the home you like has a list of flashing-red-light problems they will tell you, because you need to know rather than have a horrible surprise after you move in. I was grateful they did - they found a host of problems I didn't know were there, and the problems I knew of were actually far worse than I realized (and I've done some home work previously, I'm not clueless in laying down floors, tile, etc). Some home inspectors will give you a little folder and maybe 2-3 pages and another few pages of pictures...Peter and Karens' reports are expansive, detailed (with pictures and references) and written in plain English - not builder-ese. Their prices are fair and they will tell you - no surprise bills here! Our gutters were leaking and not draining well, even after being cleaned and attached with gutter guards. On top of that we also noticed a couple of troubling spots on the roof as well. After reading reviews about Neil Labuda we decided to give him a try. He came for a consultation right away and gave us an estimate; we decided to go with him even though we didn't ask for a second opinion-- we liked what he had to offer. He is very professional in his presentation and explained all the pros and cons of everything very clearly. We signed the contract and had a beginning date set. Due to the weather (not his fault) we had to start later on. The task was to change all the gutters and to repair the roof of a 3000sqf ranch house. Estimated time to completion was around 5 to 7 days, he made it in 4! He worked most of the time alone (with the exception of one day), but very efficiently, and hard. He hardly took a lunch break. He came every day around 7 am and went all the way to 5 pm. The result: The look is great, I should write in the future regarding the functionality, but it really looks amazing. He gives a 10-year warranty for the the gutters and a good warranty for the roof repairs as well. He cleaned very well when the job was done even rolling a giant magnet in case any screws or nails were left on the ground. The price: it wasn't cheap and honestly we do not know how market-fair it was since is the first time we deal with this, however the job was done right. He was very honest and even gave us a break for extra repairs he had to do on the roof, which we really appreciate since we are struggling a bit with so many repairs we have to do. Conclusion: He is knowledgable, trust-worthy, and very professional. They happily accepted our money. Then we tried coordinating October winterization. We tried calling and leaving messages almost weekly until finally we sent an email to Paulette. Her less than helpful borderline childish response is shown in the image below (she suggests that my husband who is an attorney deliberately tried to hang up on her when in actuality we were trying to desperately schedule). Needless to say we found a better company and will never be returning. We also spoke to the previous owners who also stated Paulette's attitude comes off as someone who does not value the company she works for or must not have any qualms about losing business for her company.
