I don't normally write reviews, but Alan Roggenburg from A.G. Aquariums and Ponds ruinied our pond/waterfall, then he completely ghosted us and has been ignoring our calls and emails for months. Our waterfall will cost thousands to fix, if it can be. Things started out back in May 2021 well. He showed up when he said he would and got us a quote. We hired him to get our waterfall working again. He replaced some pipes and installed a new pump. This all went well and we were pleased with his responsiveness and work. However, while we ran the new pump, the water in our waterfall disappeared in an hour. I asked him to fix this, and offered him more money. He said he would fix it. When he finally came back to fix it (after a missed appointment and many ignored calls and emails), he didn't really bother trying to figure out where the leak was...he just sloppily smeared patches of bright gray / white concrete all over the beautiful giant red lava rocks anywhere he thought water might be leaking. To boot, he ran the water before the concrete was dry, so all the moss growing on the rock has white concrete dingleberries all over it. So now our beautiful, natural-looking 3-level waterfall has white concrete slopped and smeared all over it--its a horrendous eyesore and we have no idea how to get it off. It's ruined--and the leak still isn't fixed. The water still disappears in an hour if we run the pump. We asked Alan back to fix it. Offered him more money. After many, many ignored calls and emails, we got ahold of him and he said he would come back to fix it. He was a no-call no-show for this appointment. Then after many more ignored calls and emails, he was a no-call no-show a second time...and since then he has been ignoring our calls and emails for months. We haven't ever heard from him again. He ruinied our waterfall--I suspect it will never quite be the same even if we find a way to remove the concrete. It still doesn't hold water while the pump is running. He didn't do what we paid him to do. He didn't make it right, despite being offered more money and ample opportunity. And he's still ignoring our calls and emails after months. His website says he is insured and bonded but I can find no evidence of this, and it appears we have no real recourse unless we try to take him to court? read more

If I had had any expectations or experience with Pond maintenance they would have been exceeded by far by Alan and team. First, I received a quick reply and initial quote. (Their estimate was so much lower than their competition that I was a bit wary-when I asked Alan he told me they were running two different specials and I qualified for both.). Alan came within the week (this was spring-which is by far the busiest time for pond maintenance so Alan worked me in for a Sunday estimate). Alan was more than accommodating, professional, and friendly. We discussed multiple options for my pond (which was in very bad shape but still had 25 beautiful goldfish in various age, size and colors). My fish had started dying and I knew it was water quality. When Alan and his team arrived they drained the 2,000 gallon pond (first putting the fish in a separate pool they supplied)-cleaned the aerators, scrubbed, installed two waterfalls (pro bono I might add), installed a pump for water changes, carefully removed the existing plants and replaced when done (the started blooming within days due to the healthy water!!) One of my fish got sick and Alan came-created a fish hospital-20? gallon container with a separate aerator-treating my fish and walking me through what I needed to do over the next week to help my fish get well. He did not charge me for this separate visit. This to me was above and beyond. I can truly recommend Alan as an excellent choice to treat/create/maintain your pond. I hate writing bad reviews. I gave Alan numerous opportunities to resolve my issue before I felt compelled to write this. It's just amazing to me that a company (in this case owner Alan) would take my deposit money on a proposal for a project, repeatedly miss in-person appointments, apologize to me and reschedule, not show up again -- and then completely ignore my countless phone calls and messages thru Yelp. I even gave him several chances to tell me if he was too busy to take on the job, and that I would be ok looking for someone else. But no, he kept stringing me along. Now, there's no answer on his business line and I have to assume at this point, I've lost my $200 deposit. I'm more disappointed and shocked than angry. Maybe he closed up shop for some reason, but this is not how you treat people. read more

Totally ghosted us. Installed a pump which stopped working a month later. Dozens of calls, texts and emails and not even a response. Horrible company and the owner needs to communicate. Pursuing legal action against the company. read more

I understand that many business have been impacted by COVID, but when you are providing business an opportunity to serve customers and don't get service calls returned or appointments that are kept then the business has no reason to complain about negative review and losing customers . We are new to El Dorado County and purchased a home with a beautiful Koi pond and multi-level waterfall leading to it. Knowing nothing about pond maintenance, and knowing we needed professional help to learn all about it, we called A.G. aquariums and ponds. The pond and equipment also needed to be inspected and cleaned. Alan came out promptly to give us an estimate and we set a date for a complete draining and cleaning. The day came as planned, and Alan arrived on time. He carefully removed over a dozen fish and put them in a portable pool on the shade. Then, he drained and cleaned/powerwashed every inch of the pond, and waterways, repaired some components, refilled the pond and replaced the fish. His care and expertise were very reassuring to us, as were the detailed instructions he gave us to maintain our pond in its now-spotless condition. Alan is a very hard-worker, and the reasonable charge for this service was worth every penny. We can't recommend him highly enough! read more

So I payed 89 dollars for a halfway done job. Very knowledgable but doesn't reschedule very timely also tried to rescheduled 30 min before appt for him apparently running behind on another job or doesnt respond on thumbtack well. Now i am due anyday with a partially green tank. Won't be using this service again... it has now been About a week since the need to reschedule apparently it takes this long to contact back. Now I'm being told they were in the process of rescheduling but I went on a rant which is just the truth my tank is still gross the glass was only partially cleaned I have proof of everything they have horrible customer service. Also they never fully explained the entire quote apparently a water change is only a partial when they guarantee clear water. I gave a tip for him helping with putting together a filter i said i could do myself. I was also told the green was good for the new filter and it would clear up in a day or two. It never did. If i wanted a partial water change i would have stated that in the job request i asked for tank emptied and filled.. also it never got clean is the point and didnt turn green again never got cleaned. read more

My Mother has a 150-gallon tank that was in need of regular maintenance. We eventually found Alan and made an appointment for him to come out. He was professional and very knowledgeable. He has been servicing the tank since August and my Mother is very pleased with his work. He even provides free fish food and one emergency visit per month- Ag Aquariums is a keeper! read more

About a year ago I combined my 20 gallon fresh water aquarium with my 45 gallon tank. After some time, I decided the maintenance for the large tank was just too much for me, so I started searching for someone who could maintain it for me. I contacted someone who, when I told him the size of my tank said it was just too much of a bother to come out for a tank under 100 gallons. I was pretty discouraged. Then I found Alan from A.G. Aquariums and Ponds. He was very professional and came out to see what I had. As soon as I met him and discussed what I needed with him I knew he was the man I wanted to do business with. Now, today, after the many times he has come to service my fish tank, he and another man came and put in a pond in my side yard. I had a small 40 gallon prefab one, but wanted Tina, my red eared slider turtle, to have more room. I am thrilled with the work done by Alan and his helper and I would certainly recommend A.G. Aquariums and Ponds to everyone thinking about having a pond installed or a tropical fish tank maintained. Thanks for a job well done, Alan....and during such terribly hot weather, too. We have a small koi pond in our back yard that needed to be cleaned and had a couple of minor repairs. I sent a text to Alan and he responded right away. We scheduled for him to come out the following weekend. He was on time, diligent and did a great job. I will absolutely use him again. read more

Found Mr. Alan Roggenburg business listed on our local Craigslist. The first few attempts to schedule an appointments were cancelled by him, which should have been a red flag to us but we finally managed to get an appointment. Within 72 hours of his service call to patch up our pond, my mom noticed the water was slowly getting low again so when we reached out to call and text him again, he never responded until the following week in which he demanded more funds up front before even scheduling an appointment. He promised my mom 2 koi fish upon completion of the job which was never delivered and the last appointment he scheduled he never showed up nor called to reschedule. When we called on a party line from an anonymous number he answered stating he had been calling us but was unsuccessful in reaching us on the phone which was a totally not true. Save your $ for a more professional customer oriented service elsewhere.
