Josh is super down-to-earth, easy to talk to, and actually takes the time to help--no pressure, no upselling, just genuine advice and great service. The fish and corals here are hands down the healthiest I've seen anywhere in the greater Sacramento area. Everything looks clean, vibrant, and really well cared for, which says a lot about how they run the shop. What really stood out to me was how open Josh was to custom requests. Went around 4:30PM on 1/25/24 (a Thursday). Took about a half hour to get there. Turns out they are closed. When I called the auto message said they were open and no where on their social media did they say they were closed (and this store has a very active social media presence). Waste of gas and an hour round trip. Won't support a business that's ok with wasting customers time. It would have taken the owner 2 minutes to post on social media to say they are closed and save me $10 in gas and an hour of my time. I guess they would rather wait for customers to get all the way to the store just to realize it's closed. Bummer, looks like they have great corals. read more

I wanted to try out coral care without having to break the bank, especially if a rookie mistake ended up killing the whole tank. Well guess what? I used a salt mixing pump that had brass fittings and killed almost everything in the tank. The best store in the area for corals. Their selection of corals isn't the greatest but the quality is amazing. Their corals are bright, healthy, and clean. I always dip my corals before adding them to my system and I've had very few minor hitchhikers (mostly amphipods) on them. The fish selection is small however with a smaller selection they are able to treat their fish with hyposalinity, copper, and prazipro to get you the healthiest fish. The saltwater hobby has a high learning curve wiht little room for mistakes. Anyone who is passionate about it will talk to you all day about it. Don't be afraid to ask questions because I guarantee you will not know what a lot of things are in a store like this. read more

I came in to the store to test my water and I had a bit high nitrate and phosphate the lady kept telling me she's what she's talking about yada yada, me a beginner to saltwater she tells me to try nopax. I was vaguely aware of Your Reef after seeing their live sales on Reef2Reef. Recently I was meeting another hobbyist to swap corals about 40 min away from the shop. I decided to make the journey over before I came back to SF. The shop is pretty awesome. It has a wide range of corals everything from your run of the mill palythoas to designer SPS. I left the store with a Maxima clam larger than my hand and 4 frags. Definitely worth a visit. read more

No, I would not recommend this business. I experienced very poor customer service and was sold a diseased Goby that died and killed off our entire tank. I made a few poor decisions. I was told that I could transport a Goby to Reno, NV. When I arrived home, we tested the water in the bag and it was basically tap water. I left a message with the business with my concerns and I never received a phone call in return. The Goby died the next day. Today, we lost the last of our entire aquarium of saltwater fish. They have all died. I know we should have had a quarantine tank but we never had an issue with our local shop. I never leave poor business reviews but I feel the need to warn others about the risks of making a purchase from this business. read more

I am surprised that Your Reef has no reviews so far. Stop in and say hello to John (the big tall guy), you will not be sorry. I make it a point to drive here from Elk Grove on Thursday or Friday to see what goodies he has bought for the week. If you like high-end, collector, or rare corals, this is the place. If you have any questions from the most basic to the most complex, this is the place. John talked me through tank setup and helped me configure a reactor I brought into his shop. He also spent a good hour discussing tank chemistry parameter testing and control. This was all done out of good faith as I did not buy the reactor from him. I did buy from him afterwards and will continue to go back. Service is what it's all about. Oh yeah, and he is great with kids, very patient and engaging. My boys love his store because he bribes them with a YR sticker and a free shell when we stop in. read more

Smaller of the aquariums in the area, I would say good place for coral good prices and it all looked quite healthy. Not as many fish and or supplies but they did have lots of used ones if your looking for something on a budget. The employees where nice helped us and explained some coral we weren't familiar with. read more

I had been keeping track of YR for awhile ever since I found them on Yelp but ended up looking through their website every now and again since I'm a SF native and do no travel to Sacramento often. I recently made a purchase for a Maxima Clam and several SPS corals. They contacted me after the purchase and confirmed the shipping date. Unfortunately on the day I was scheduled to receive the package UPS called me and told me that there was an issue with the package and that i would have to come pick it up at a UPS hub instead. After i picked up the package and opened the box i saw that the bags of salt water had leaked out. Corals were bleached and the clam did not survive the night. As a reef keeper my heart sank, but I went ahead and email Stacy at YR about the situation with pictures. To my amazement, she responded within 15 minutes empathizing me with the situation and the steps to get the corals replaced. Through out the night and next morning I kept a correspondence with Stacy regarding the situation and ended up driving to the store where I met John the owner. John took care of me in getting my corals replaced and even threw in some extra stuff for driving up from SF. I had an amazing experience with YR and would definitely go back without question. Stacy and John took a possibly terrifying experience and turned it into a great one. During my interaction with them, they never questioned or pushed any blame at me. There is another fish store closer to my house , but due to the amazing customer service and friendly vibe from Your Reef, I make the drive at least once a week, even if its just to look.
