Not only is Gloria incredible at what she does, but she always had me cracking up when I was with her for fittings. She is a no-nonsense kind of person and I always knew I was going to get her honest opinion, which I appreciated. My wedding dress had a massive train with satin box pleats, and I had a very specific vision for the bustle - I didn't want it to look like there even was a bustle. Not an easy challenge, but she mastered it! Gloria is very professional and definitely knows what she's doing. I got my wedding dress online because of the limitations with the pandemic and needed quite a few alterations done to make the dress perfectly mine. I came to her about 6 months before our wedding date which I'm glad I had done since it sounds like there were a lot of last minute brides coming to her due to moved wedding dates from the pandemic and the wildfires so my dress schedule got shifted a bit here and there but did not cause any problems with being ready for the big day. The day of the wedding a paid a tad more to have her bring the dress to my venue (not trusting myself to be able to properly transport it and ensure no wrinkles). She brought her steamer and made my dress look fabulous and also helped steam my bridesmaid's dress since she traveled from Maui. read more

Gloria did a fabulous job altering my wedding dress. She was so nice! If I ever need anything altered in the future, I will be going back! She hemmed my dress, gave me a bustle and adjusted the shoulders on my dress. At my final fitting, she gave me some tips about getting the dress on and off and how to travel with it so it wouldn't wrinkle. It fit like a glove and I felt like a princess! read more

I wanted to get a dress shortened and fitted for a wedding I was going to. I called before hand to ask how much it might cost and I was quoted between 30-60 dollars. When I went to get the dress fitted she said she wouldn't shorten it because it wouldn't look good. And then told me I owed her 110 dollars because the hem and taking in the sides both apparently are different charges. I told her I just wanted to take in the sides then and I would shorten it myself and she told me I wouldn't be able to do it myself. I'm too nice to fight with her about it so I paid 60 for getting it hemmed and left. The rest of the night I was upset I wasn't even going to get it shortened or taken in so I called the next day and asked to get the dress back. She told me she would refund me for some, but was going to take a 25 dollar fitting fee. I found her extremely rude and unwilling to do what I asked. I will never go back to her or probably any seamstress again because it was the worst experience I've had. read more

Rude, slow, overly expensive, and poor quality work. When Gloria told me the total of what my alterations would be for my USMC Ball gown, I jokingly said that the price was almost as much as the gown. Her words? "Well, honey, your gown is from CHINA, and I'm NOT." Um....rude and racial much? Then, when I FINALLY got the gown, the seams were poorly done and puckering. I had her do a bustle for the train, and she didn't catch the lining of my gown along with the rest of the material! Halfway through my very special evening, I was tripping over that lining. I now have a gown that, with price and Gloria's alterations, ended up being very expensive, but I will NEVER be able to wear again, thanks to shoddy workmanship. read more

If they would let me give less than 1 star I would. This place has the absolute worst customer service I have ever dealt with. Gloria is extremely unprofessional and rude. We went to her after our other place shut down from COVID to get suits for our wedding. We placed our order for our suits a couple months prior to our wedding. We told her that we would have people that would have a hard time trying to get down to try everything on once it came in. She told us it would be in the Friday before the wedding for us to try on. It didn't show up until Monday night and our wedding was 4 days later. Everyone had to rush down there to try stuff on, one being my brother from Sacramento the next day. They told us when I went to try everything on they would be due back on Monday after the wedding. Then on Thursday when everything was finally in, they told us they had to be back on Saturday which they have shortened hours. When I said something about it, they told me that it was their mistake but too bad and had to argue with them that we weren't available to bring them by in time. One of my groomsmen dropped off all of our suits on Monday after the wedding. All the suits were checked in by them to verify all pieces and damages. A month later, I received a call from Gloria stating that part of my suit was damaged and I had to pay for it. I told her that it has been a month and since they were returned and no damages were reported when they were returned and I would not pay for something I didn't damage. I told her that if there was any damages it should have been reported immediately not a month later. I told her she was not allowed to charge my card due to these facts, then she hung up on me and she charged my card anyway. She is a terrible business person with no respect. On top of these issues, my sister went to her to have her bridesmaids dress altered. She was not working at the time and had to take her daughter because she didn't have anyone to watch her. Upon arriving, Gloria was rude to her about "bringing a child" to a fitting and asked if there was anyone who could come her her. My sister drove an hour one way to go to her place of business. My sister told her she didn't have anyone to come get her because she drove an hour out there. Gloria then refused to do business with my sister until she didn't have her daughter and told her she would need to come back without her child. I would not recommend this place of business to anyone. She is way overpriced and extremely rude and unprofessional!! read more

I was looking for a seamstress to reinforce a seam on a pair of jeans. After reading the 3 reviews on yelp I decided to try 'A Gourmet Sewing Company'. The pair of wranglers had one of the double stitch lines come loose and needed to be repaired on the seat of the pants. This should have been a quick and inexpensive repair. One week after dropping off the pants I had to call to see if they were done. I was shocked that I was charged $10 to repair a 6" stitch line! It probably took less than 10 minutes to repair. I paid $30 for the pair of wranglers and it cost me 1/3 of that price for a simple repair. I am new to the area and don't think I will be going back anytime soon. read more

Being that do a fair amount of sewing, I thought I could take up the gown I planned to wear to my step-daughter's wedding myself, but a few short days before the event I realized that the work was beyond my ability, and I was probably not going to have time to do it without rushing and ruining the dress. Having ordered the father of the bride's tux from A Gourmet Sewing Company, I went in with my dress to beg for help. Gloria is a very talented seamstress who creates wedding dresses of her own so I knew she was more than able to handle the job, but I remembered the racks of clothing in her shop waiting to be worked on when we ordered the tux, so I was not at all confident she would have time to hem my gown for me. To say that I was relieved and grateful when she agreed to do the work would be an understatement! I had been starting to panic because there was no way I could wear the dress without it being hemmed, and time was running out. After putting on the gown with the shoes I was planning to wear, she quickly measured and pinned up the hem. When she finished that, she advised me that it really should to be fitted better...specifically, it needed to be brought up in the shoulders. Not only was she saving my bacon by hemming the gown, she was now also offering to fit it to me as well. Wow! As promised, she called on the day she said it would be ready, and rather than charge me more for the expedited service, she presented me with a bill that was more than reasonable....in fact, it was quite a bit less than I had expected. On the day of the wedding, I put on the dress and it fit beautifully and was the perfect length. Thanks to Gloria, it fit so well that I never tugged or pulled or re-positioned it once! My sister had seen me in the gown several times before it was altered, and she said it was amazing how much better it looked on me now that it been fitted. I got numerous compliments, and I felt comfortable and confident the entire time I wore the gown....even when dancing at the reception. I cannot thank Gloria enough for going the extra mile for me with short notice, for being so professional and good-natured, and for not charging me an arm & a leg when she would have been justified in doing so. Don't think twice if you need a seamstress....A Gourmet Sewing Company will take very good care of you! read more

I've been doing business with Gourmet Sewing Company for over a year. The work these ladies do is OUTSTANDING....I've taken in quite a few things to be hemmed and EVERY time I receive PERFECTION.
