I wanted a plain manicure with clear polish. She talked mme into color. Ok. She put base, two layers of color and top coat. One right after the other. There was no drying between coats. No dryer was seen on any desk. How is that possible? I sat there for 45 min waiting for them to dry on their own. Then I sat in my car 30 min to be sure. Then drove home 45 min. They were a wreck when I got home! Well, yeah, they were not dried between coats! I had to remove all the polish at home after my husband remarked how awful my nails looked. read more

My wife came in for a hair coloring today and the person that did her hair either was new or didn't know what they were doing. She spent $120 for a hair color she could have done at home. She went to this salon to have a nice hair day and what she got was a hair color that she now has to redo. We are both very disappointed and simply wasted money. When checking out, they asked her to schedule another appointment and she told them No, in fact it wasn't a good experience. Her comment was never addressed. I recently moved to the Farmville area from out-of-state. I have neglected my hair for quite some time. I shared my concerns with the stylist. She gave me great advice. ..very "do-able" advice...supportive, funny and kind. She evaluated the condition of my hair, talked about my expectations & then on to a fabulous shampoo/conditioning treatments. She then suggested some very conservative, "long layers". Traditionally layering my hair has not been a good idea. She explained her technique and I decided to be adventurous. When she finished my hair was AwEsoMe. My husband gave me a spa mani-pedi at the Great Escape for Mother's Day. Let me begin with the pros. The location is excellent and parking is easy. The spalon is very nice, very clean, and very modern looking. I love that I didn't have to wait; my service began as soon as I arrived. Everyone who worked there seemed very nice, and Julie was very welcoming. My technician was very friendly, and I felt totally comfortable with her. The atmosphere and experience was very relaxing. Cons: For the price my husband paid I am very disappointed with the final product. The pedicure was just ok. There was nothing special about it. I've had much better at Deluxe Nails. The manicure turned out awful. When I saw the final product I was very disappointed. My service was on May 8, 2021. Today is May 14, 2021. Six days later and my nails look like I've been working in the garden. Never mind the nail polish. I can repaint them if I choose to. But my cuticles and the skin around my nails look horrible! I told the technician I wanted healthy looking nails. I'm posting a picture of what my nails look like six days post-manicure. You be the judge. I'll be trying somewhere else next week. I had a terrible haircut from Mack. I mean awful. I asked for long layers and ended up with a shelf layer instead. My haircut was half way done when the receptionist came and told him his next appt was there. He rushed to finish. I noticed that he did not raise my chair to his height. He was so busy telling the stylist cutting my moms hair how to do her job he failed to do his. It's okay to be a know it all when you're the best but when you do cuts like that .... you can't possibly be the best, furthermore he told me the absofacto song playing "dissolve" was the glass animals and i just went along with it even though I knew he was wrong Bc he clearly seems like the type to not be corrected. Anyhow, I expressed my dissatisfaction with the haircut to which I was told I could "come back Bc we have a satisfaction guarantee" but looking at my cut I knew the only remedy was to cut the bottom shelf completely off leaving my beautiful long hair shoulder length. The "thinning out" he performed ruined my wave pattern and has made my hair more apt to tangle. I expressed to whoever was communicating with me via the fb page that Mack rushed through and that person responded "we can give you a longer block of time so you don't feel rushed" and I was throughly annoyed with this exchange Bc I did not FEEL rushed I was rushed. I asked for a blow out and he blew dry my hair, we ALL know what the difference is but the person communicating with me pretended as if it was my communication error. For a spa that claims to be top of the line this was handled VERY poorly, the hair cut looks like I could've gotten it done in a barn and I thought long and hard before leaving this review Bc I really enjoy Julie, her services are great, her personality is lovely, but my hair is still all jacked up months later. read more

Four stars for friendliness and their ability to see me immediately as a walk-in, but two stars for the quality of the gel manicure. I had a short window of time and wanted to squeeze in a gel mani and brow wax before leaving for my honeymoon. This was my only option in Farmville, and I was happy they were able to see me so quickly as a walk-in. The eyebrow wax was great, but the overall quality of the gel manicure is by far the worst I've ever had. The staff was friendly, and seemed to know what they were doing, but didn't trim back my cuticles, which is a bummer because I have a few hanging bits, and the actual quality of the gel is terrible. The polish peeled off one nail just over 24 hours after the manicure, and over the last 12 hours, I've lost three more. To be clear, I'm not picking at them- the polish is peeling up off the nails. So now I'm literally standing at the airport for my honeymoon with ragged cuticles and shoddy looking nails. It's pretty frustrating. I would guess their hair services are much better, but I can't recommend their gel manis. read more

I had an appointment to get my hair colored Saturday (VERY BUSY TIME) and took my 7 year old sidekick with me for girlie time...as in laugh at me in foils... then things went NOT according to plan... I had a flare up of a health condition while there.. and it was handled so well, so thoughtfully, so wonderfully that my girl NEVER EVEN KNEW. SHE JUST HAD AN AWESOME TIME!!! while that was happening, my husband was called, and I received the best of care you can imagine. And all the while, I was reassured, checked on, and told "don't worry its ok"..for goodness sake! I cleared the color room then took over the facial room ON A SATURDAY!!! I have been to salons in many different cities, but this has to be the worst. They are trying to pretend that they know what they are doing, but they DO NOT. All I wanted was a simple cut, and the guy cutting my hair not only did not know how to do it, but he left a long fringe of hair underneath that I had to have my husband cut off. The only thing the guy did do was to try to "upsell" me on an unnecessary straightening treatment for about $600. What a joke this place is. read more

Customer service is lacking here. People can be rude when it comes to doing ethnic hair and I wouldn't recommend coming here.

I went to this salon to get my hair dyed from brown to blonde. I walked out with the same brown hair, but with ugly bright blonde highlights. The highlights were just on the top layer of hair and they were not blended into my hair at all. They looked like bleached stripes. It was terrible. I called the salon and told them I was unhappy. They said that they couldn't dye all of my hair, but if I was really unhappy in a few days, they'd add a few more highlights. I was NOT going to walk around like that for a few more days. I drove to Walmart and got box dye. I was much much happier with the box dye, it didn't take four hours and it cost me $10 instead of $250 which is what the salon cost. It's honestly a shame that I had this experience because they are the only place in Farmville that offers such a wide variety of services. I want to get my eyelashes and nails done in town, but I'm afraid I'm going to spend my hard earned money and get terrible results again. read more

I have been going to A Great Escape since my freshmen year, now I am a senior. I have always had an apprentice or licensed hair stylist. I have never had a bad hair cut, and they ways give me a student discount. As a student, I have never paid over $20 for a hair cut. I have also revived both a manicure, pedicure, and had my eyebrows waxed. I have loved every service I have had there. I had no experience with the quality of service but as far as customer service I was disappointed. I was a walk-in for a pedicure about an hour and a half prior to closing. The receptionist asked the employee sitting beside her in front of me if she wanted to do my pedicure to which she said no that she was ready to go. The receptionist turned back around and told me they could not accommodate me. I was disappointed but understandable as I thought they must have an earlier closing time and must've been busy. I then asked to look around to scope out the facility, and said employee walked me through. She then grudgingly offered to do my pedicure, but how awkward after she'd already said no! I noticed there were zero people in the pedicure room and only a few other clients getting services. The environment was amazing everyone was nice and they made sure you were doing okay.
