Sue's, A Helping Hand home, is simply the best place your loved one can be cared for. Our journey with dementia was sudden and scary during the start of lockdown mandates for COVID. Initially we placed Mom in her own apartment at a large fancy memory care facility that promised all the bells and whistles. I received many calls and texts from Mom that she wasn't receiving the attention or care she deserved and that we paid for. Moms condition worsened and I knew I had to mover her immediately. Thank God I found A Helping Hand. The home is so clean and inviting.There are wonderful home cooked meals, fun activities, and a caring staff that is happy to see you whenever you stop by. What a wonderful place, my mother has been staying here for 3 months and the staff is so helpful and hospitable. They are beyond nice to me and my mom. I was asked by the owner Sue to leave a great review as soon as I moved my mother into the facility. I will say the staff is great and helpful. However most days I show up I ask are they ok and they often are working alone and overwhelmed and have told me they are severely underpaid. As well as asked to do much more than care cook and the normal cleaning. One caretaker recently had a stroke because of the stress she claims she felt from having to do extra when understaffed. My mom was told by Sue the owner to stop crying when she was frightened to get into a wheelchair and as I was standing there Sue says "Where is your faith, aren't you a Christian?" With the most sarcastic delivery I was taken back and shocked. Prices went up constantly and for the amount my mom was charged it was unbelievable how my mom who I was told would eat sitting up due to her recent stomach surgery was left for a year to eat in the bed by herself while others were in the living room together. Because i popped up to check on my mom I had to let Sue know this could cause an aspiration as my mom was left almost flat in her bed while eating and could aspirate(choke) on food . Months later there was a sign in her room stating "ALL residents must be sitting up in chair while eating" after I continually complained and pleaded. If you want your mother to be left alone with short staffing(1 caretaker for a house of 7-8 residents) and just be charged 6-7K a month with random increases this is the place you're looking for . read more

As a physician who has practiced 44 years, many of my patients have eventually needed assisted living, including Board and Care facilities. Indubitably, A Helping Hand is the best Board and Care accommodation with which I have been acquainted. Sue and her excellent staff are exceptionally warm and caring, with individual and personalized resident assistance and consideration. Sue, devoting much time, assures that each resident is receiving optimum and loving care. She interacts with the family thoughtfully as needs change or new issues develop. The staff is knowledgeable, kind, and attentive to personal care. Meals are lovingly prepared, well-presented and tasty. Rooms are clean and well kept. What can one say when everything you hope and wish for comes true! My mother-in-law was a resident at Helping Hand for 4 years. She had been at Sunrise for one year prior, and despite the enormous amount that they charged; she was not getting the care she deserved! The loving staff at Helping Hand treated her like family, and I mean everything they could do to make her life pleasant was done. She thrived under the protection of Sue, who as an owner and care giver has more compassion than many nurses I have met. My father-in-law was also living there for 6 months before he had to go to skilled nursing care. He had been very ill and could not walk, talk or feed himself and had been in two nursing homes over a 6 year period. He recovered somewhat and did not need to be in the nursing home. We moved him into Helping Hand and he blossomed! The staff are VERY well trained, and Sue expects the best for your loved one. I can't say enough about the wonderful home they provide; we gathered every month for pot luck dinners, and visiting is encouraged often! A very pleasant environment , I hope she will have room for me if I ever need it! read more

A Helping Hand is a small residential style Senior focused Board & Care / Assisted Living Facility. It is CLEAN. It is PROFESSIONALLY run and Staffed. It is truly the best Board & Care facility I visited - and there were many. The food prepared by the staff is beautiful and healthy - I wish I'd have taken pictures while my sister was there. My sister had special eating preferences and they accommodated her. Each patient/client is treated with their regard to their individuality. The gardens are beautiful, the home is spotless and in excellent repair. The rooms are nicely decorated, bright and fresh. The owner is intelligent, pleasant and available. These people have a secure and safe facility that feels like a beautiful western home of high standards. There is plenty of parking for visiting. Oh - and visiting is encouraged. They are priced the same as the other facilities I looked at that were not at all acceptable. Sue has built a lovely, caring facility where you can be assured you or your loved one will be well cared for and treated with respect. When Kaiser Permanente Hospice failed to come thru the owner made sure help was found and on the way. These people not only took care of the patient, but they took care of the family at this critical time. The experience here changed the entire course of my loved one's final days. read more

As a senior care professional, I have the opportunity to see many assisted living facilities. What's typical is to simply make a senior safe and comfortable, but at "A Helping Hand", Sue and her staff make a real difference by connecting with their residents in a more personal way on a deeper level. The touch, tone and respect they show stands far above the competition. There is enrichment through weekly music and a variety of activities to fully engage the resident. Sue is incredibly detailed and thoughtful in responding to changing health needs, and I have not seen a more involved owner anywhere in senior living. We visited A Helping Hand for the first time yesterday as part of our exploring of the options for my father-in-law who has dementia. Not only were we very impressed with Susan (who was helpful in so many ways), but as we walked up to the entrance, the daughter of a current resident was just leaving. after giving Susan a big hug, she turned to us and said, "Welcome to heaven!" It was the best testament to the facility anyone could ask for. We're not quite ready to place my husband's Dad, but when we are, A Helping Hand will certainly be at the top of our list. read more

My mother has been a resident at A Helping Hand for a year now. Our family feels so lucky to have found this wonderful home. All of the members of the Helping Hand team treat her with such respect, concern and love. We all are confident she is receiving the best care possible. The home is located in a lovely neighborhood and the grounds are welcoming, with a nice backyard that is perfect for family visits, especially with our dogs! All of the meals are home cooked and smell fabulous! I am often envious of the delicious food my mother enjoys. My sister and I were so happy to find A Helping Hand. The owner loves taking care of her guests and treats them like her own family. My father is 95 now and in a wheelchair, which means he needs help for most things. The care-givers are absolutely wonderful! He loves them! They take care of his needs and makes sure he is entertained when he prefers it. He has said the food is wonderful too.My father came from a very nice retirement home, but says this place is so much nicer, because of all the personal care he gets. Finding the right home for our mom, who suffers from Alzheimer's Disease, was a difficult and at times depressing endeavor, so when we found A Helping Hand it was an absolute godsend. The caring and well-trained staff treats her exactly as I would hope - with kindness, respect, and total dedication to her well-being and happiness. The owner, Sue, goes above and beyond to make sure her residents are cared for, and she has a great sense of humor, making the whole situation so much less stressful. The food is all home-cooked and delicious, and the house is spotless. There is an open-door policy, and the staff makes mom's visitors feel like part of the family too. Simply put, a Helping Hand is head and shoulders above anything offered by the other (twice as expensive) facilities we toured such as Silverado and Sunrise Living, and we couldn't be more thrilled to have mom there. read more

We were so lucky to find a Helping Hand through a Place for Mom agency. When we walked in, we knew that the place was special ...light airly and very clean and homey. The staff are so dedicated and the owners truly care for the residents . One can tell that it is NOT just their job...they really feel a compassion toward older residents and treat them with such dignity and respect. While I am too far away to visit often, Sue has sent numerous photographs of my father and he sure has blossomed while in their care! We are treated like an extended family and my father is so happy that the care is genuine. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect in their latter years. Only those who find A Helping Hand are lucky enough to be assured of the level of care and a safe, comfortable surrounding instead of the corporate controlled and managed care that is endemic to the aging community.
