My mom has been at Silverado for over 6 months and we've been very happy with her care there. The environment is clean, attractive and comfortable. There are 4 floors and are arranged by residents' needs and cognitive level. My mom seems very content to be amongst her peers, chit chatting, doing activities, going on outings and dining together. I'm so grateful for Silverado and all the staff. It has turned out to be the perfect place for my mom. She is safe, engaged, fits right in amongst her peers and has the support of staff who understand what she is going through. Few things feel lonelier than caring for someone with dementia. When I realized I could no longer safely care for my mom at home, I started a deep dive into researching memory care communities. She was diagnosed with dementia and I made it my mission to find a place that had an excellent memory care program, that would engage their residents in daily activities that would allow them to thrive, and live the quality of life that they deserve. Who would ever think I would be submitting a review, against what my family and I were to believe was a Quality Care Facility. I'm sharing this review because of the care my 85 year old father, who has dementia did not receive this quality care. No in fact we were alarmed to find our father with bed sores which he did not enter Silverado in Redondo Beach with. Of course the facility is responsible, even though there are SOP, Professional Business Ethics must be up held. My parents planned ahead and in no form or fashion did they expect to receive the kind of care I'm going to show what lack of care. I am BEYOND frustrated with this facility. I moved my grandmother into Silverado in October 2020 with the expected financial help of her long term care insurance to cover the costs for the next 3 years as the monthly bill is over $8000 per month. The total move in cost was approximately $15990 which included a deposit and first month stay. We obviously had to file a claim with our long term care insurance provider and we immediately began that process thru Silverado. One of the reasons why our family chose Silverado was because they assured us that they would help us with the process of activating the LTC insurance as it is a lengthy and drawn out process with a lot of paperwork. That was a relief for us as our entire family is incredibly busy. Little did we know that the staff and this facility would completely drop the ball on us and we ultimately had to do the entire process ourselves which was just another added headache. All Silverado did was lend us their fax machine. Some help! The first couple screw ups with this place: 1. They lost our $15,990 cashier check and we needed to put a stop payment on it and wait 90 days for the money to reappear in our account and then rewrite the cashiers check. Ultimately they received the initial move in costs but because of Silverado's negligence it then put my grandmothers account in the red for 3 months, which is roughly $26k. To this day, my grandmothers account is still in the red because we refuse to pay it current until these issues are rectified. How long term care insurance works is you pay the facility up front out of your own pocket and then a full calendar month later you are reimbursed from your insurance and the facility gives you the reimbursement check. Just last week, we finally received word that a partial reimbursement check for the $15,990 we had given them had finally come in! Instead of being notified to come pick up our check to redeposit it into my grandmothers estate, they took it upon themselves to take the check and try to deposit it into their own account! That is NOT how long term care insurance works ESPECIALLY when you have a conservatorship like how my family does. Not to mention, that reimbursement check is made out in my grandmothers name and she is not in her right mind to endorse the check in question. How are they able to deposit That check without a signature from my grandmother or my family's consent? You can't! It's ILLEGAL! Complete and utter negligence! 2. Staff Changes- it happens! And human error is very real. HOWEVER, when you're dealing with people's livelihoods and hundreds of thousands of dollars, a smooth transition of power needs to be in place. This facility assured myself and my family that we would be "a part of the Silverado family and they would be there for us". NICE FUCKEN SELLING POINT. They have done nothing but cause my family a financial headache. I can only hope that they're treating my grandmother with dignity and respect as we haven't been able to see her due to COVID restrictions and this situation brought on by Silverado's incompetence, financial negligence and inability to use a calculator has only brought on tension between our family and this facility. When you have a staff change, they should be THOROUGHLY INFORMED on their residents and their files before making executive decisions. They've gone thru 2 different resident managers (?) since we've moved my grandmother and no one had ever informed us of these staff changes. SOME FAMILY! This is a corrupt business that is LACKING oil in its gears! We even used to be able to FaceTime my grandmother regularly. Not only that, when the initial resident manager that I was introduced to was still at this facility, she at least had enough mental wherewithal to send me and my family little updates with my grandmother since we were unable to see her and she made it a point to do this for all of the residents. She would send us little picture and video updates via text and that entirely warmed our hearts seeing that she was comfortable. It was also much easier getting in contact with her via FaceTime before this manager left. Now it seems near impossible with our schedules! The only times we hear about anything pertaining to Silverado anymore is when it involves a financial issue that they blatantly are responsible for. We have funds to pay my grandmothers expenses for years with no reimbursement. We have long term care insurance and we will use it AS WE SHOULD! This is why my grandmother paid into it for so long after all! It has nothing to do with our inability to pay. It has everything to do with negligence, incompetence and unprofessionalism. If I had to do this entire process over again, I would have done more research and made larger strides to find a nicer and better functioning facility. HANDS DOWN! One of the most important decisions of my life, was where to move my mom when she developed dementia. We tried to take care of her at home for a year, and that was sort of a disaster. After researching every option in Southern California, and visiting the best three, multiple times, Silverado, was the obvious place. In all of my interactions, the staff was wonderful. In fact, the primary reason I am writing this review, is to thank them. The receptionist at the Silverado Senior Living in the 514 Prospect office working on Monday, 21 June at 0900 was extremely rude and unprofessional. She was not on the phone, was not with a customer and was not engaged in a task when I approached her to simply ask for directions. I was dismissed and waived off to another receptionist in a different office (Beach Cities Health) before getting two words out. The BCH employee pointed me in the right direction with no issues while the Silverado receptionist waived at me from behind her desk. I have the highest respect for the caretakers at Silverado. I know my mother is not easy. In fact, since dementia has kicked in, my mother is downright difficult. She's more of a 6-year old than a 68-year old - constantly moving things, hiding things, refusing to take the important meds that help her to walk and talk. Since we have brought her to Silverado, my father and I can relax and know she is in good hands. They do exercise classes in the morning (though getting her to participate is a challenge) and keep them entertained throughout the day. In the afternoons, there is usually a musician to play during "Happy Hour." I get so much joy from watching my mother dance and sing during these times. The best part is...SHE LOVES IT THERE! We'll take her on outings and ask if she wants to stay with us or go back. She is always happy and ready to return. Silverado is spendy, but for piece of mind and knowing a loved one cared for and well, the money is worth it. read more

Alzheimers is a terrible illness. At some point, many caregivers will have to find care support for their loved one beyond the home. Increasing medical problems best handled by skilled nursing and behaviors that are difficult to control are usually at the heart of this move. For our family, Silverado was a godsend! The staff dealt with us with kindness and compassion from the outset. They were sensitive to what we had gone through as my mom continued to decline. Once in the facility mom was given the medical attention needed by a staff of compassionate caregivers and nurses. For those who are still able, there are a range of activities for residents and family alike. They encourage visitors at any time. Someone in our family visited nearly every day, sometimes multiple times a day. Regardless of when we came, we saw a staff engaged with and caring for each resident in an atmosphere more like a group home than a sterile and heartless hospital environment. Dementia will never be a good situation, but with the help of Silverado it was a better situation. My mom passed, but all I can say is "thank you" to the wonderful staff at this facility. read more

Choosing to place my grandfather in a facility was the hardest and most heart wrenching decision we've ever had to make, but his Alzheimer left us with no other option. Silverado deserves far more than 5 stars, this facility has been a COMPLETE blessing to my family. It's definitely worth every single penny spent. Initially my family was guilt ridden by the idea of having to place him in a facility, but now we've realized that Silverado provides my grandfather with a far better quality of life than we could have ever given him. When my grandfather was accepted by Silverado a year ago, he would've been denied by most others because it wasn't only that he was incapable of taking care of himself, he was a danger to others. The Alzheimer's completely changed my grandfather and he went from being the kindest man I know, to angry, short tempered, and sometimes violent. He had been 5150'ed prior to being placed here, and at one point sedation and restraints were how he was kept safe, all that changed at Silverado. They have an entire team of people working with him to preserve his quality of life, balancing out his medications so he's functional and safe. They provide so much for everyone living here - art, music, book readings, exercises, bingo, casino night, regular outings, etc. There are activities scheduled throughout the entire day, every day for my grandfather to stay engaged. Pets on the premises: cats, dogs, and birds. My grandfather is kept groomed, they shave him, give him hair cuts, trim his nails, wash his laundry, keep him clean. Transportation is provide to and from his doctor appointments. On his birthday they baked cupcakes for him. Ladies can get their nails painted. Silverado provides as much normalcy as possible. In the year that my grandfather has spent at Silverado, there has been nothing but great things for us to say about this place. They provide us with peace of mind that he's in wonderful hands - Silverado has an absolutely amazing staff. Also, no matter how bad his Alzheimer's becomes, he's never going to be kicked out because he needs a higher level of care, they will continue to accommodate his needs as the disease progresses. read more

I have a friends Mom who is a resident here. From the first time I visited this facility I have been highly impressed by the staff and excellent condition of the facility. I observed how well the patients are taken care of by the staff and how well the staff interact with patients. The cleanliness of this place is beyond what I have seen at other facilities. My mother who has been at Silverado for 4/12 years just celebrated her 93rd birthday today at Silverado. The caregivers decorated for her, put makeup on her, including false eyelashes and dressed her beautifully. The receptionist at Silverado made her a gourmet cake! A couple of caregivers came in on their day off to wish her a happy birthday! It was fabulous!! Once again, my thanks to all the wonderful caregivers at Silverado!! This place may be fine for a few but I am not impressed with the care my family member has received from this place. It seems that whoever is having the biggest crisis gets the attention. It has a hospital/institution feel to it and there does not seem to be any kind of consistency with the care provided which is stressful for the residents. Also, joy and happiness are contagious and it begins with the staff. Most of the staff here sadly don't model this so it is rather depressing to visit a loved one here. For the amount of money this place charges there are much better local options available for our loved ones with dementia. read more

Both my mom and dad passed away from this facility. My dad was there for about 4 years and my mom for about a year. Bottom line is that my parents were happy at Beach Cities Silverado. Absolutely no regrets. Our family visited every week and Silverado caregivers were there as second family. The nurses and caregivers danced with my mom in her last days, and they were so patient with my dad till end even in feeding him. Caregiver - Valentina, Luis, Shardae, Anna, and nurses - Jesse, Emmit, Carla, Hilary and Trang were life savers. The leader of this group, the head administrator, Sammy Hassan was amazing. He ran the place so efficiently and affectionately, I thank all the people who worked and works there. My family would not know what we would have done without Silverado. read more

My father moved to Silverado after an illness in December left him incapable of caring for himself. Every interaction with the staff of Silverado was pleasant and productive, and it was clear from our original tour on, that the residents were treated with dignity and a high level of care. We visited almost daily, and with no particular schedule, and were always impressed with what we saw going on. My father was clean, shaven, and was given manicures and haircuts without our needing to request these services. The meals were appetizing, and the residents were given the assistance they required by a caring staff. As a retired Special Education teacher I am aware of challenging behaviors, and how they can be handled in a positive way. I observed the staff interact with disoriented residents in the same manner that they would treat beloved family members. Sadly, my father passed recently, and once again we were treated with compassion and care by the Silverado staff. I truly hope the families who place their loved ones in Silverado or any other institution will visit often and go in unexpectedly. If you don't live close by, hire a patient advocate to help you. I only wish that I had paid attention to my gut feeling at the beginning and moved my dad out sooner. As nice as it is for the residents to have their pets, the pets are not cared for, they use the facility as their bathroom and cleanup has to wait for a janitorial staff member. The dogs that I saw smelled bad and were extremely overweight. My dad also had behavioral issues that went along with his dementia. I will agree he was a challenge. One thing I learned, Silverado caregivers are to be the main caregivers of the residents. The personal caregivers that we hire on our own are to supplement and help the main caregivers. This did not happen in my situation. A few of the personal caregivers needed help but did not get the help that they needed. It comes down to the staffing issue; there are too many residents for the few caregivers that are hired to work. More funding is needed to hire caregivers and less funding for the managerial staff members. If you find a caregiver, nurse or social worker are nice to you, still keep an eye out, I found that a nurse that I liked was actually quite nasty when I wasn't there. I am also appalled by the low pay of the caregivers who have the most challenging job of all. Granted, this is a difficult job and the turn over is great but treating the caregivers well and paying them well would help with this situation. Many of the residents wander and the caregivers allowed them to wander in and out of each others rooms. We found a lady sitting on the floor of my dad's room eating his treats that were in a drawer. We also had items taken from his room and had to hunt them down because a resident would take things and hide them. I had my dad in a more expensive facility before moving him to Silverado. The caregivers at that facility would keep an eye out and keep residents from wandering into other rooms. My reasoning for moving my dad to Silverado was that it is only a Memory Care Facility. I had hoped that the caregivers and the managerial staff had been trained for all types of dementia. My only recommendation to anyone who has no other choice but place a loved one in Silverado, is visit often, keep your eyes open, pay attention to what your loved one tells you or you may have to watch how your loved one behaves and feels. There are other options out there that are not always found on the internet. Ask around, keep your ears open, ask other Care giving companies for recommendations. And...just know, it is one of the hardest decisions to make for a loved one that cannot make a decision for themselves. read more

In January 2013, we realized my mother-in-law, who is 83, could not continue to live on her own. Her dementia had gotten to the point where she was a danger to herself as well as those around her. It was difficult to keep her in the house and she was up all hours of the night. My wife and I didn't know how we could keep our jobs and afford to take care of her at the same time. Along came Silverado Senior Living. We looked at most of the assisted living places near us and most had a place to care for memory patients. But Silverado was different. They are 100 percent dedicated to caring for memory impaired patients and it shows in everything about the facility, from the floor designs to the daily activities to the trained staff. They have 24 hour nursing support and almost one caretaker for every resident. The care at Silverado is wonderful. The caretakers enjoy my mother-in-law's uninhibited conversations and quirky behavior. They are patient, dedicated and professional. We've seen how loving and caring they can be when she is having an exceptionally bad day. They have the ability to re-direct her in a positive and loving manner. In addition, the facility is extra clean and well maintained. My mother-in-law is doing as well as she can in her condition and we can enjoy visiting her without feeling stressed. This was the hardest decision we've ever had to make but it has turned out to be the best. For memory care, we recommend Silverado without hesitation. read more

My dad has been at Silverado for the past 9 months. He lived in an independant living community after my mother passed away in 2010. He had mild dementia when he moved in but in a short few years he began to have outbursts that were most likely related to his memory starting to fail. I was referred to Silverado. Since he moved in, he has thrived. Silverado provides him a very structured living environment where he is seldom, if ever, alone. The community provides him with social activity and the kind of stimulation that keeps him engaged. The caretakers are nurturing and help him with his daily living habits including bathing, dressing and eating. And best of all, if ever there is a health concern or even emergency, their nurses are able to handle it and transport him with caregivers to any doctor appointment or hospital. I'd give this place no stars if I could. My father-in-law was a day resident at Silverado Beach Cities for over a year. A week ago, Silverado called my mother-in-law and told her my father-in-law's Alzheimer's was too advanced and he was no longer welcome at Silverado....starting THE NEXT DAY. He didn't do anything - he doesn't have any of the anger issues characteristic in some Alzheimer's patients. He is sweet and quiet and spends most of the day sitting in his chair. They literally called at 4 pm and said he was no longer welcome starting at 10 am the next morning. What kind of place treats people in this manner? As if Alzheimer's wasn't hard enough to manage. We came to the good folks at Silverado with the need to move my father-in-law back close to home for hospice care following a very sad outcome from a bone marrow transplant at City of Hope. Jackie Marques was wonderfully understanding and sincerely empathetic and put in place all the details to move him to a bright, ocean--facing room in their facility. We had consistently warm, professional interactions with the staff during his brief stay at Silverado, including appreciation of their inclusion of pets in the facility. Silverado is an amazing memory care facility. On each floor is a small community of residence who suffer from dementia or other memory impairment at various levels of these cruel diseases. The staff creates such a lovely family environment. Each member from administration, nurses, caregivers, food and laundry service to reception know each resident by name and know how to connect with them. In my father's case, it is not an easy task because he suffers from Lewy Body dementia, (a form or Parkinson's and Dementia) but somehow they manage to make him laugh and smile. The staff is warm, respectful, kind and loving with the residents even when they are unaware that you're watching. They are happy and caring by nature. We do not have the skills necessary to properly care for my father. Silverado provides the "loving family" environment and well-trained staff that my brothers and I cannot. They encourage family visits. Family members are always welcome at any hour. Meals with your loved one are complimentary. The staff is very communicative. Questions and phone calls are promptly return and staff is always available. We wanted to give my father the same safe, loving environment he and my mother gave us growing up.
