The cosmos has a funny way of leading you to a door and I feel that way after having walked through Lucy's door. I was led there by something greater than myself. Oh Lucy! Where do I begin? - well, I guess I just answered my own question - Right from the Beginning! In September of 2021 I looked around on Yelp for a licensed hypnotherapist. Lucy Grace's listing looked interesting to me, so I reached out to her via email. She responded quickly, indicating that she wasn't accepting new clients at that time. So I went back to Yelp. I interviewed several therapists over the phone and had an hour long Zoom chat with one person to see if he would be a good fit for me. What I learned from all of the chats was that it wasn't easy to find a therapist that seemed right for me. In May of 2022 I reached out to Lucy again, to see if she was accepting new clients. I was delighted to learn that she was. I had been experiencing performance anxiety for almost two years. Golfers call what I had "the yips." This can affect any part of your game, but in my case it affected my putting. When playing in any sort of competition, even the most friendly, I felt paralyzed standing over the ball on the green, virtually unable to move. The fact that my husband and I are in the golf business made this doubly painful. Golf was a big part of our life and I felt like I couldn't just walk away from it. Lucy was confident she could help. In fact, she thought she might be able to help in just one session. I wasn't so sure, so bought a series of 5 sessions, just to make sure I would have the problem well and truly solved. Lucy's forecast wasn't far off. My putting was back on track after two sessions, and by the third session we were exploring other issues, which seemed like a huge added bonus to me. Lucy has lots of tools in her tool box. She introduced me to The Emotional Freedom Technique, and also made me several relaxation tapes, which I typically listened to while going to sleep. The tapes started out by helping me relax from head to toe, and then went on to talk about putting. I was always fast asleep by the time it got to the putting, but I certainly took in the information on some level. Hypnosis was also helpful. Lucy was wonderful to work with. I've suffered from a variety of psychiatric issues since my early teens: anxiety/panic attacks, excess weight, substance abuse/addiction, etc. Despite all this, and with the help of various psychiatric medicines, I'm blessed with a loving family and a fairly successful career. However, when I recently decided to ween myself off of some prescription pain medication, I found many of the ugly symptoms from earlier in life returning. I'm at a stage in my life where I really want to rediscover who I AM (the happy, pre-anxiety kid from long ago), rather than using more medication to numb the pain, and, from what I read about Lucy, I felt she might be able to help me with this. First off, I have my own brand of spiritualism but am also a natural born skeptic and generally anti-New Agey type stuff. However, after talking with Lucy, there are two concepts that she spoke about that really resonated with me: (1) There is a Higher Power which is there to guide us to our highest good (2) In order for permanent change to occur, you must essentially "rewire the flow of energy in the brain" Lucy uses a number of techniques designed around these concepts. As an IT Professional, (at the risk of over-trivializing!) I would liken these techniques to certain computer maintenance utilities: Hard Drive Defrag, Registry Defrag, Temp File Purge, Disk Repair. This may seem like an odd comparison but I truly feel like my "emotional systems" are now functioning on all cylinders. I also feel more in touch with that elusive "life force" that has been largely hidden from me for most of my life as a result of it being buried deeply within and unable to express itself. I came to see Lucy by a referral. She is definitely very sweet and compassionate and truly tries in every way she knows how to help. However, when it comes to a deeper understanding of the psyche, she lacked the education needed to help me. Instead of mentioning this to me at the beginning, she simply thought she could help by her limited viewpoints. To be in the position that she charges at $125.00 a visit is a lot, more than an educated and professional MFT. As I have had more than 40 years of therapy behind my belt, I closely listened. She is, in my opinion, more into if I liked her and asked me if I felt she was doing her job satisfactorily, than keeping her own self-needed approvals at bay and addressing her client's true needs. I just felt she needs so much approval and to me, that is not very professional and crosses a line. At one time, she called me and wanted to ask for some clarity for herself. We must have talked 20 minutes. She was really wanting again, approval, rather than tending to my questions. As she did not even know the meaning of certain medical terminology, I was certainly surprised. At the end of this conversation, I said, "Would you like to be paid for your phone time ?" She then replied, "Oh, how nice of you to offer that." I asked, "How much do you want?" She then replied, "$50.00." Now remember this was for her needed clarification and approval for 20 minutes of her time and mine. I then said to her, "I am not paying you because I am nice, I am paying you because I have integrity as this is a professional relationship." Well, I mentioned to her that I will definitely pay her for her much-needed clarification, however, I said to her if you want to call me for more clarification, I will charge you for my time. I did pay her through my online bill pay from my bank and she did cash the check. This woman, I am sorry to say is about "money" and does not have the proper credentials to practice on people with just the few hypnotherapy letters after her name. Sorry. read more
