AAA contracted A. Hodge Towing and Recovery for towing service and during the tow they damaged my car to the tune of $3k and are denying any responsibility. If am shocked that with all the complaints that AAA is even using them as a preferred provider. Compliant filed with BBB, and will proceed to court over this. Right is right and wrong is wrong. I was always taught if you make the mistake own it and move in. Live with integrity. Some might ask, "Am I surprised?". Yes, and No, but mostly yes. Anyways, the bear has been poked, and I will drive this a far as I have to informing everyone to STEAR CLEAR of A. HODGE TOWING & RECOVERY, if they ever show up. Unfortunately very disappointed. My truck was misdiagnosed. When I tried to speak with the owner about my vehicle he was rude and actually yelled at me over the phone. Insisting he was a professional and I was only being difficult. I told him I would be getting a second opinion, he only got my angry and doubled my bill before he would give me my keys. I was originally told the charges were $82, once I said I would like a second opinion before giving him $1500! I was told I had to paid $132 before I could have my truck back. Do not be taken advantage of by this 'mechanic'. My family was in the middle of a 14 hour road trip vacation when we heard a strange noise coming from our car. When my husband stopped at a rest stop to see if he could visually see something, and couldn't, we googled nearest mechanics and A Hodge was it. With 2 small children under the age of 3, apparently we were prime targets to these people. We were taken care of promptly by John. Within 20 minutes we were told the car needed a new engine and was unsafe to drive. Would you load your family into a car you were just told was unsafe to drive?? We trusted their word and decided that since the vehicle would not be worth putting a new engine in, we would turn it over to the mechanic for 'salvage'. We verbally agreed the car would be worth $225 and our 'bill' for the service was $82.50. We offered to pay that at that time but were told once we returned to Chicago after our week vacation, and mailed the Title, they would send us $150. Strange that they expected the Title to be handed over before any money was exchanged. They were very quick to empty our car, load us into a cab, which shuttled us to a rental car company so we could rent a car to continue our 14 hour drive. (John was very nice to help arrange all of that.) After we settled and had more time to collect our thoughts, we felt that $225 (or $150) was such little money, we would like to look into donation of the car to Vehicles for Veterans (http://www.vehiclesforveterans.org). They would come pick up the vehicle (working or not) and tow it appropriately- we chose the Veterans because we have utmost respect for our service members and my husband works for the VA hospital. When we called A Hodge to discuss this with them, we were told we would need to speak to the owner Alan and 'he would not be happy because he was planning on giving the car to his son' (so much for being told it was unusable). When my husband spoke Alan 2 days later, he was called every name in the book including a "deadbeat" for leaving his car there and accused of 'not being a man' for paying the bill. It was referred to as 'their vehicle' (though we still have the title); told we owe them $500 for keeping the vehicle ($35/day for keeping it there); and refusing to let the car off their property. No paperwork was signed. Nothing was agreed upon in writing, on either end. How absolutely ridiculous. They should be ashamed of themselves. Not only were we prime targets to be taken advantage of- a young family in the middle of summer vacation, 6 hours from home; but we want to DONATE our vehicle to VETERANS of the United States of America. Shame on you, Alan and A Hodge 'mechanic shop'. All for considering an alternate course of action to help someone in need. Shame on you. read more

I didn't have any experience with shops in the area. I was told by some locals that A Hodge Auto Repair was good. Now, let's move on to my story. My vehicle was experiencing an electrical short. A certain fuse kept blowing causing my transmission to shift incorrectly and cruise control not to function. After having the vehicle for 2 days I was told it was ready. When I went in to pick it up I was told that the short was in the rearview mirror wires. The mechanic asked me if the auto-dimming feature on the rearview mirror was something I could do without. I asked what it would cost to fix. He informed me that "the part was no longer made" and I would have to buy an entirely new wiring harness. Which would cost several hundred dollars plus installation. So I decided to wait on repairing that and asked about the fuse. He said he "clipped" the two wires leading to the rearview mirror and wrapped some electrical tape around it. I thought, should be easy to fix down the line. I asked him how much I owed him. To clip 2 wires and wrap them with electric tape cost me $190. As if that wasn't bad enough... the short was gone. My cruise control was also... gone. When I called them to report this issue I was told I could bring it back and they would diagnose it. I knew where that was going so I decided to bite the bullet and call it a day. I would like to leave zero stars, but must choose at least one for the review. They were dispatched to me from my insurance company for a tow, they called and were rude, asked if I still needed a tow and expressed that I was far away. The tone was clear in the mans voice that no one wanted to provide me with service. I was told I would get another call that never came, so I called back and was lied to. I was told my insurance company had canceled the work order. I then contacted the insurance company, they stated the opposite, the company canceled the work order and we had to start another roadside request from another provider and I cannot say enough good things about that company. read more

Alan is the best. An honest mechanic, like a good doctor, is something to hang onto once you find them. I'm glad I found this place when I did. The service is great, they are kinda busy so getting something in the same day you call probably isn't always going to happen but that just speaks to how popular they are. The fees are reasonable and I believe they have a payment option or at least they used to. I remember seeing a sign on the door the last time I was there. read more

***BEWARE*** The owner is a pure jack a**! I was involved in a bad accident and they towed my car to this place! I went the next day to retrieve my belongings out of my car and he went ballistic on me telling me HE OWNS MY CAR since its on his lot! Had to take Ky State Police with me to get my stuff out of MY car! This man is COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL and all he wants to do is steal your money!!! So again BEWARE! read more

Recently, my husband was involved in a minor auto accident almost outside the door of A Hodge Auto Repair. He had the vehicle towed to the nearest repair shop, which was Hodge. Due to the other party, who was cited, telling us she had insurance, we asked Hodge to wait until her insurance company came to assess the damages, which was two days. When the adjuster arrived, he found that the other person did not have insurance, that it had lapsed two months ago. Hodge did not inform me of this so I waited to hear from them for about a week. When I called them back, I was given this info, so I immediately had my insurance company go to assess the damages. This was done in about two days. Hodge got approval from them for repairs that came to about $1,850, if I remember correctly. Shortly, I got a call that there was a great deal more work that had been revealed when they removed the front tire and rim. (This was the reason I had quit going to Hodges years ago, always an Oops! after an estimate amount had been given. Also, years ago I was told by Hodges personnel that I needed new brakes, my brakes were shot. My answer to that was, "That can't be, I just had my brakes done at the dealership two weeks ago!". I never went back.) So, I had to get with my insurance adjuster and he approved those repairs also. To make a long story short, when I finally was able to pick up my vehicle (after lies about who was doing the paint job, etc.) I immediately noticed that the recycled mag rim on my vehicle was rusted, filthy dirty, and pitted all over. My mag rims had all been in almost new condition. I complained about the condition of the mag rim and after much bullying by Hodge, when he saw that he couldn't get me upset, he finally calmed down enough to agree that if I wanted to buy an acceptable mag rim with my own money, he would make the change at no cost. I was familiar with ordering parts for aircraft as that was my job before I was downsized in Oct. of 2016 after 15+ years when my company closed down its repair facility in Cincinnati. Hodge knew I was 68 years old and due to the sudden loss of my job, was in dire straights financially. That didn't seem to matter. When my mag rim arrived, I took it to Hodge to replace, as agreed. When I got my vehicle back, the original rotten mag wheel, which was in the back of my van after replacing the front left mag wheel with the one I had bought, was somehow even more rotten than before and the other 3 rims were also rotten, pitted, rusted and scratched! When I called and complained, I got from Hodge, "I'm sick of dealing with you people!" and he hung up on us. Strangely enough, there was a vehicle parked on his tire lot which was the same make, model and even color of mine with shiny new-looking mag wheels. I had seen that van while my vehicle was in the shop. Then, it's mag wheels were pitted, rusted and scratched; now, they were new looking. I had even taken pictures of the old mag rims when I thought the original switch had taken place on one wheel. Now, I wonder how many other of my newer parts were replaced with worn out parts from a van that had apparently been bought for parts. Now, that van might be sold for more than it's value with a sales pitch of "Look, new parts!" So, if I'm right, Hodge made out on my insurance company, me and now will make out on the sales of that van. Can I prove any of this? No, I have no serial numbers. Coincidence? You decide and then decide whether you want to trust this place with your repairs. Except for Hodges at the BBB website, I have never written a negative repair of any business, but if this will help even one other person, it's worth it. read more
