The store is tiny and filled with overpriced items that you don't *actually* need. The premise is that a lot of the items for sale (rings, bracelets, other knick knacks) are repurposed. Other things are $50 tshirts with a cute saying on it or similar. I bought three rings here recently, and at $9 a pop, I figured they'd last a little, but knew they weren't the absolute best quality. Wrong. Material from two rings turned my fingers green within three days, without them being subjected to water or anything. Very disappointing and makes me wonder about other products in the store. I really enjoy coming to this store, but the actual experience has been uneven. Yes it is posted FINAL SALE on my receipt, but when I am a repeat buyer of the very overpriced Annie Sloan Chalk Paint - and a local - I would expect a simple exchange within a day of purchase when I was ill advised on a color by staff would be a possibility. Call it professional consideration. It wasn't a custom mix or a special order, and I was planning on buying *more* paint as well on the same visit. I'm not wealthy and a $38 quart of paint is a big bite out of the budget. I'll be taking my Chalk Paint business to Clarks Hardware from now on. read more

A Journey From Junk is a cute little (recently has doubled in size) retail store located on Main Street in Good Ol'Ellicott City. It opened the year I graduated from High School in 2008--I remember this because it was the only store in which I could find chalkboard paint and rustic vintage chic decorations for my graduation party. The woman that I always see in the store is a fashionable boot wearing blonde who I believe is the owner, her name is Kelli. She stated once that she travels to different trade shows and trunk shows to pick out her boots--She picks out some really cool ones. Also, the store has chalkboard classes and always takes part in the Main Street events, such as the Shop Local/Shop Late events. read more

This is my mom and I's go to store whenever we make trips to Old Ellicott City! Rarely do we walk out empty handed when we visit A Journey From Junk. From cute jewlery pieces to Johnny Cash decor, you're bound to find something you'll love! Another plus is that A Journey From Junk isn't just one store--There are two buildings side by side! One is mostly clothing, shoes, hats, jewelry, etc. While the other is full of box signs, chalk paint, and tasty candy treats. They recently decorated for the upcoming holiday season and they have such adorable vintage ornaments and decorations! Petticoats, fun jewelry, cool signs, cowboy boots and wine chalices made from mason jars. Super cool girl stuff for the adventurous. It's not quite the same cupcakefest some of the other girlie stores on Main Street are (not there is anything wrong with cupcakes) and I think it's a good thing. I have purchased many items from Kelli over the years including a huge mirrored buffet she personally delivered to the house and helped us carry up the stairs. Journey from Junk is a cute shop with lots of cool vintage items out front like old shutters and garden goods; it is worth a stop on Main Street! read more

Love this place! It's tiny and filled with all kinds of treasures. I thought the prices were very reasonable for the items being sold. I would hate to do their inventory but I love all the selections they have to offer. I found lots of great gifts and spent more than I thought I would because I found so many unique items. I recommend a visit for those gifts to give girlfriends or daughter-n- laws that show a creative thoughtful side. I'm so glad this store exists so there are options other than Macys and the mall! read more

Cute store but unfriendly staff. Went in last week during the afternoon. There were three women working. One greeted us but it was definitely not warm. They were too busy trying to figure out if spaces were tight. The answer is yes. Store is no where near accessible although this is certainly to be expected with historic spaces. The good news, with their unpleasant demeanors they won't need space for customers. read more

Love the stuff they have in this store! Even though I'm from NH, I try to visit this store whenever I'm visiting family in MD. My only issue is with the attitude of the ladies that work here. They're always unfriendly and won't even give you a smile or a hello. I prefer shopping at Sweet Elizabeth Jane a few stores down. Such a cute store with lovely fashionable finds for you and the home. I had a wonderful experience here as my husband and I found a very cool and reasonably priced sideboard for our dining room. The five star review comes as a result of my experience with the owner, Kelli, who stocks wonderful stuff but who also organized the delivery of the sideboard as I couldn't get in my car. When her husband arrived, as scheduled, with the furniture I was so surprised and happy that she had sent along a choice of decorative knobs for me to put on the cabinet doors and her husband even drilled the holes right there for the chosen knobs. So kind and unexpected. I would definitely recommend this place for fun and unique finds! read more

I live in Ellicott City within walking distance to this store and have been in this store many, many times. They carry a ton of unique items, finds, jewelry, clothes, etc. They have doubled in size and now have more room and an ever better selection. I have never found the staff to be anything other than welcoming and helpful. I'm puzzled by the few reviews that complain about things like the store's size (it's in a tiny historic district), or that the store sells things you don't need (if I want to shop in a store that only sells things I need, I'll go to Home Depot or the grocery store, thanks), or not being able to get a refund on something clearly marked "final sale". The expectation of small businesses to be able to cater to the masses like big box stores is unrealistic. A Journey from Junk is the kind of boutique store that true small business shoppers love. read more

I think this store is so cute! It totally appeals to the girliest side of me. I just love the look and style of the store: distressed, trash to treasure chic. Great place to get unique gifts for a girl friend. Neat jewelry selection; love the option to create your own charm necklace. There are a couple of other girly stores off Main Street that are similar, but Journey From Junk is my favorite. read more

Really cute, girly store. It's small, but there's always tons of stuff to see, and there seems to be a good rate of rollover, especially with their clothing items--I notice new items coming in frequently. The one downside is the vile attitude of the women working there. While it's not enough to keep me from shopping here, there's a pretty big snark factor here. read more

Shop has re-opened after the floods. Lots of gift ideas from soap to candles to jewelry, clothes, nick-Nacks , furniture and decor items. They sell Annie Sloan chalk paint as well. The owner Kelli has done a good job getting the double shop back up and running and has replaced some staff -which were all friendly when we went in the other night. read more

I can't say enough about this stylish, funky boutique that I've been shopping at for years! A great, ever changing variety of merchandise with extremely helpful, friendly & fun staff, especially the owner Kelli and manager Tanya. They always take the time to give very knowledgeable and personal service whether it be picking out the right outfit or selecting the color of paint.
