Ellicott City, what a charming and wonderful place. A friend recommended that we check out this place in our road tripping journey and this place did not disappoint. As I was packing for our East Coast adventure, I was thinking fall weather clothing: boots, beanies, light jackets.....oh but on our last two days, mother nature said NOPE, I am bringing the heat! It was hot and we were slightly dying, as we passed Sweet Elizabeth Jane, not only was their storefront display soooo cute, but we could feel the AC blasting when we passed by. Seriously, this was the reason why we went in. Not knowing what to expect, I was surprised. The store was two floors, but not only did it have the cute souvenirs and Christmas decor that was visible as we passed by, but it had cute clothes and accessories. What a gem of a store....it was boutique plus, plus!!! This store has my heart. It was hard to narrow down my shopping since I had to be mindful that I had a carry on and personal item to travel back home. I couldn't resist and decided to purchase items and just ship them to myself back home. I bought a shawl/jacket in the most wonderful Olive Green color that is perfect for walking and driving in. I also got the softest scarf. Customer service was top notch. I saw this scarf on display on a mannequin and I asked if it came in different colors and they went to go look since I am not a big fan of the browns in my attire choices. I got a gray/black combo scarf. Since we had cooled down significantly as we were shopping, we got hungry and asked if we could place the items on hold since we didn't want to carry our purchases until the end of our exploration and headed back to the car. I gave them my name, they placed the items on hold and we went to eat. When we came back, the store associate remembered my name and that our items were on hold. She also told me that they have a website with many items for sale from their actual sales floor that could be shipped and proceeded to tell me how the store got started. She wrapped the items with care and off we were. Prices are completely reasonable for a store of this caliber. This store could easily fit into the vibe of Stanford Shopping Center, Santana Row, downtown Carmel, etc.....but I KNOW that this place will blow any rivals strictly due to their fair pricing, storefront size and their unique items. My favorite kind of shop when I'm out and about with the girlfriends! It was post Thanksgiving, so lots of holiday decor was for sale. Try, just try, not to say, "This is so cute!" or "This is adorable!" when picking up something of interest. Bottom Line: A small business with friendly staff and a lovely selection of clothing, accessories, home décor and gifts. Sweet Elizabeth Jane in historic Ellicott City is one of my favorite stores on Main Street. I don't get the chance to venture inside as much as I'd like but I always ooohh and ahh at their lovely windows displays. This two-story locally owned small business has a good amount of clothing. Overall I feel the clothing they offer is age appropriate for a wide range of ages. Some of it is too young for me like cropped sweaters and short skirts but there are plenty of other items that work well for me. Unfortunately as another Yelper noted sizing here can be limited to smaller sizes. I also like looking at the accessories at SEJ like scarves, earrings, necklaces and such. As far as gifty items, I am in to the Cavallini posters and puzzles, Mistral soups and recently, fun crab and Maryland-shaped cookie cutters. The front entrance off of Main Street has a single step up but there is also a back entrance that I believe is more stroller and wheelchair friendly. read more

I am so grateful for this store for many reasons. I have been shopping here for years even the old location that used to be. The ladies working here are angels, high vibrational energy and super helpful. Over the summer, a girl helped me picked out 2 pairs of shorts and love them as wonderful staples to my wardrobe. - the owner is such a strong person and has been through a lot with the store. Walking down Main St. we were lured into this store by the wonderful window display. A bit of frilly tulle and holiday decor that made us stop in our tracks... reverse... go back to the entrance. Upon entering I was struck by how charming this shop was. Almost like being in a fairy bower. Airy, with lots of space, I never felt cramped or like I was going to knock something over. After the holidays so there was plenty on sale. There seemed to be anything and everything in this store. Home decor? Check! Clothing? Check (go upstairs, there's a whole floor of temptation)! Gifts for friends and family (or, let's be honest, yourself!)? Check! If I didn't have family members waiting outside, I would have spent much more time here. There was a jacket that called out to me, and I knew it would just lead to trouble. The store was clean and well-maintained, even though I know they were transitioning between seasons. The staff did just what they needed to. They acknowledged and let you know where they were, but they gave me the space to wander and look. This shop is vintage chick. Every time I go into this store I feel like I'm on a treasure hunt. They have the cutest trinkets, books, clothes and accessories scatter all around the store. It's as if you have to go to every corner and shelf to get your shopping fix. This is a shopping adventure in the heart of old Ellicott city. The shop follows the old and historical vibe old Ellicott embodies. The vibe I get when I walk into the shop is modern yet classic old school and a bit retro. It's definitely worth a stop. It's also a great place to get some last minute gifts for those special ladies in your life. My favorite thing this store carries/carried (I'm not too sure they carry it anymore, but I can't be certain) is/was their shower curtains. Their shower curtains are super girly and undeniably straight out of a Pinterest picture. This store also upscales old furniture and mirrors. They put such a unique and modern twist on old items. This is the store I have been saving my paycheck for!! Currently this store is in full Coachella mode, so if you are looking for flower crowns, white hippie dresses and long flowy tops this is your store to hit up this season. Summer festival wear isn't so much my thing BUT I did manage to find a cute even work appropriate dress here and some tops. For brands they carry mostly Blu Pepper and Eisley. I would like to think of this store as a Anthropologie twin but without the insane prices. I have to hold myself back in the housewares section here. So much adorable vintage like cute stuff like with bicycles, hedgehogs and foxes on them and not enough room in our kitchen. The glassware is definitely worth a look. They have some Italian wine glasses that I have been wanting for years (my birthday is in August, just putting that out there). I do most of my shopping on line these days,but this will be the one store I venture out to. This is the cutest shop! Friendly staff, interesting things. A joyful shopping experience. I got a lovely pink hat. My husband asked why? What a fool! (Just kidding). Also found Denali bourbon glasses, just perfect for our upcoming trip to Alaska. (There were two other mountains.). Staff were super friendly and helpful. They wrapped up my purchases in a lovely and thoughtful way. Highly recommend allotting at least 30 minutes for enjoying this fun place on Main Street in OEC. read more

It's always great to have a local boutique nearby. I enjoy the shopping experience versus the hustle and bustle of big box stores or malls. I wanted to support this store while on a visit to old Ellicott City after the most recent devastation from the flood in May. I called first as I was parked by my dad's office near the court house and wasn't sure what roads if any were open. Main Street is now open through Oella, though you must access it from Rogers avenue as Ellicott Mills drive is being repaired until at least late fall. Parking lot D is open and there were also spaces directly behind Sweet Elizabeth Jane in their private lot. A lovely apronoligist (sales associate) named Tarini helped me with parking directions on the phone as well as merchandise in the store. The store is beautifully curated with two levels- the top floor has clothing sale items, as well as clever and useful home goods items. They have vintage like items, and some mainstream brand lines they carry. I bought a cute cat print oven mitt, some stationary (on sale), and a summery black floral print romper. The dressing rooms are spacious (I was able to wheel my Doona stroller with baby in it) while trying items on. Upstairs I perused everything from planners, crab print plates, aprons, cocktail making books, cheese serving trays, a garlic twist, and a step stool to name a few. They are currently honoring the tax free apparel shopping which I think ends today or tomorrow. They also had a buy 3 get the 4th item free sale upstairs for their summer clothing. They already have cozy fall knits in, which seems early but it is basically September. Not sure how that happened. I was really pleased with the shopping environment- music, layout of merchandise, and friendly sales people. I would recommend shopping here if you're looking for a gift, or just to treat yourself. read more

Sweet Elizabeth Jane's is a women's clothing store, but the first floor is dedicated to housewares, accessories, and scented products including fragrances and lotions. Not only am I a fan of this store, but so is my husband! And that is saying something. We both enjoy the housewares section of the store on the first level. If you're looking for unique kitchen and entertaining items, books, games, puzzles, wall art, gadgets, and decor, go no further, this store will accommodate. We can't exit the store without purchasing a cute item for our house or a gift for a birthday, housewarming, or holiday. The store is bright, airy, and modern. The staff are always welcoming and helpful, but are accommodating when you just want to browse. They package fragile items so well. We always return to Sweet Elizabeth Jane's when we visit Ellicott City. read more

One of my favorite stores in Old EC. I love their new location and the ambiance. I also think the staff is much more friendlier and helpful after reopening. I love getting unique, comfy, boho inspired clothing here. I do admit they are sometimes way more expensive than what I am willing to pay for. But every single thing I buy here is quality, and if I compare it to Anthropologie, it's downright clearance price range! I picked up two winter items there recently ( both on sale) and they are ones I keep wearing in chilly weather. I love this store, and good to see that it's thriving after reopening! read more

Sweet Elizabeth Jane is an adorable store on Main Street in the old Caplan's department store in historic Ellicott City. This is an awesome place to pick up gifts for the ladies in your life; or if you're anything like me, bags full of things for yourself. You know, things you never knew existed that you now can't live without. They have lovely furniture, bedding, upscale / retro kitchen decor and supplies, jewelry, home decor, vintage finds... tons of lovely goodies that are beautifully laid out. It's one of those stores that is a pleasure to visit with out of town guests. I love their funky Pick Up Sticks jewelry & their Lollia soaps and candles - the bottles, boxes and wrappers on their products are gorgeous; they make great gifts! You can put together some really special gift sets here without running to a bunch of different places... one of their stylish aprons & a chic dishsoap tied up with a pretty ribbon in an enamel pail with one of their wooden bowl scrapers would make a fab hostess gift for a friend who is (or wants to be) a domestic goddess. Their window displays make me want to move in - they change frequently and are like retro-themed time capsules. Love, love, love! They even saved my feet this Friday with their fabulous sales! I was tottering down Main St in my heels after work, and picked up a pair of super cute beaded red flip flops for only $15. When on-street parking isn't an option and you know you have to hoof it in high heels all the way back up the hill to your car, it is money well spent! read more

I really like it. The quality of the items the store puts out is top notch, and they're a mix of vintage and new (the new items being on par with things you'd find at Su Casa, or some other high-end chain housewares store). The owner(s) go to great lengths to have nice window displays, and find some really nice classic items. I thought their selection of 50s and 60s-era luggage was really cool (and all in new condition), and seems like something I haven't seen another store do. I guess I have to take away a star because of some of the pricing. While I think their furniture is great, most of it is extremely expensive, and I can't see a good justification for some of the prices. While some of it seems like a great bargain (a really solid antique dinner table for $125, for example), upholstered chairs for $1800 doesn't seem realistic. But then, somebody *must* be buying it, or the prices wouldn't remain. read more

Oh how I wish I had more time to spend and browse through this unique place. Not only did they have cool design clothing and a whole area that was 50% off, but they had neat knick knacks as well, items that looked pure vintage but was made within this year, cute planters, impulse buy stuff etc. But I was walking full speed ahead to beat traffic home. Of course I did manage to purchase a little wristlet of which they have nice spring colors. I took a star off.......................Cause they only carry clothing up to size LARGE? Ummmm, not everyone is a size zero to ten/twelve. And with the way the food production in this country is going many people may find that they develop robustly. Go take care of all that stuff first so you can enjoy a pleasant shopping experience. And for heaven's sake, don't park in the limited street parking...choose an unlimited parking space in the lot behind Su Casa furniture store. I used to shop at SEJ in the old location and loved it. I've gone to the new location several times and have been disappointed. I guess I'm not their target clientele so the sales associates were less than helpful. I'm also a little older and no longer a smaller size so they have nothing that fits me. Shame. read more

As far as the merchandise and prices go, this store is pretty great. I love the clothing selections and the neat selections of home items. Unfortunately, I don't care for the service. In the several times that I've been in SEJ, the store clerks don't even say hello, and they're hard to find if you need help....or they're busy carrying on with their own conversations to realize that a client might want assistance. In general, I feel it's pretty rude for the staff to not even acknowledge that a potential customer has come into the store. Maybe some other time. read more

I have been a fan of Sweet Elizabeth Jane since I moved to Ellicott City. I haven't had the chance to visit the new location until today. I was very upset to visit and have sales woman follow myself and my niece around the store. We went to the second level and she clearly felt uneasy about us being up there and followed us., while not asking if we needed help. Just piddling around looking at us over her shoulder. Needless to say we left as we both felt uncomfortable. I will not be back nor will I recommend this store to anyone. As an African American I have experienced this sort of behavior in the past. However it saddens me each time. I gave two stars because it is an awesome store. I have purchased many things from there at the old location. Great store. But I guess just for some. read more

More sour than sweet. My 17-year old son was in Old Town with friends and bought me a sweater from the clearance rack for Christmas. Unfortunately, it was too big, so we went back for an exchange. We found a smaller size on the clearance rack, but it turns out, clearance items are final sale and cannot be exchanged, even for another clearance item. My son felt really bad. I wanted to love this place, but most of what they sell is available at Amazon or Homegoods. And I am spoiled by the amazing stores on the Main Line in Philly. It's not curated as well and doesn't have the best things. I want a store that has one of a kind, unique beautiful things that are not available at a strip mall. My husband and I visited on Memorial Day and we were delighted to find it open and thriving. We both have worked in specialty retail for many years and we were extremely impressed with the carefully curated merchandise selection and the wonderful displays. We each found something we had to have, and we got some gifts for family too. You'll find t-shirts for men and women, women's clothing, cards, gifts, jewelry, books, journals, candles, pottery, cushions and more. Check out both floors - you won't want to miss an inch! This is an adorable store located in the heart of old EC. It has a great floral and bohemian style and carries a lot of handmade arts and crafts. It's pretty big and spacious and carries a lot of great decor for your cozy home. They have everything from kitchen goodies to bedding and accessories. Everything is coordinated and displayed well. I absolutely love this store and make sure to stop in every time I'm in Old EC. It's much like Trov in Hampden, and is like Anthropologie without the large clothing selection. SEJ is full of home goods and unique knock nacks. There is a small selection of clothing but I usually don't pay much attention to it.
