I've stayed at this Holiday Inn Express on Hughes Ln many times over the years and have generally…read morehad good experiences, which makes this situation especially frustrating. During a stay in late February 2026 (Room 432), I encountered live roaches in the room and checked out immediately (2 days into a 4-day stay). That alone was bad enough, but what followed was worse. At checkout, I asked the front desk clerk, Lydia, if this had been reported before and was told it was "not the first time." I expected management to follow up, but no one reached out. After multiple attempts, I finally spoke with the manager (Cal), who told me the issue was not isolated and blamed their pest control vendor. He also said he had tried to contact me but didn't have my number, which didn't make sense given that my contact information is provided at check-in. I tried to resolve this through IHG Diamond Services starting January 30. While they initially responded, the case stalled while waiting on the hotel. I eventually escalated to executive-level review and never received any response at all. Nearly two months later, there is still no resolution. I travel frequently for work, stay at IHG properties often, and don't write reviews like this lightly. A serious room issue is one thing, but the complete lack of follow-through and accountability is what stands out. Disappointing experience overall.

Every detail was attended to and even some that we hadn't thought about was perfected by the owner and her excellent eye for detail. We looked to NH for the reception location but due to renovations taking place at our church, we were there for the ceremony as well. That wound up being the best outcome, even though it was not our original plan. I keep seeing people trying to do so much of their wedding DIY. NH will help with every detail and in the end you will have a wonderful even and lovely memories. DIY details added to all they had to offer, but I can't imagine doing everything. They give great advice, but make sure to have your own assistance outside the venue to help organize. NH is an event venue and there is a limit to what that entitles you to. I believe other posters are expecting someone to consult with for every detail and that is not what an event venue is for. They certainly tie it all together in the end but it is your party to plan. Everyone was very professional and organized. There are many items to rent and have available. They have great vendors to recommend. The DJ was amazing and every detail made this a dream wedding without breaking the bank.

I love the bar they've built and the functionality of it is much needed. The grounds, the stage, the landscaping were all superb. Most of the employees were friendly, especially the security guard outside of the establishment. Now with the issues I encountered. First, we were one of the first tables served food, but also the last. A friend of mine waited for his beef option for about an hour after the first plate was set on the table. It seems like a free for all with servers setting down plates just wherever instead of a calculated effort of table by table, ensuring everyone is plated before moving on to another. The bartender was a bit harsh at one point when I overheard someone ask her what type of whiskey she was serving and she harped out "We don't have any name brands here!" Which, I'm sorry...for as much as the couple shelled out for access to their bar, having some name brands would've been nice ‍ Overall, this place is nice. It's quant and very intimate. The dance floor was pretty as well. Definitely give this place a call if looking for an intimate location for your next event.

Their lasagna is to die for, the bolognese will make you cry tears of joy. The chicken Parmesan was tender and the marinara tasted so fresh. Then the fettuccine Alfredo was the highlight of the meal for me, it was soooo creamy and cheesy and the noodles were perfect. After sampling everything, the fettuccine was what I ended up finishing in the restaurant. The other party members ordered a shrimp scampi with gluten free noodles and the sauce was rich and tasty. We also ordered a child's pepperoni pizza that tasted amazing with the marinara and seemed like it was wood fired. Our waitress was friendly and kind, and also very prompt, which we appreciated. We sat in a booth and enjoyed the ambiance, everyone in the dining room was chatting and having a good time. Will definitely be back!

Our server was a pleasant young fellow and mostly took good care of our table, although I did order an iced tea that never came, which I completely forgot about until the end of the dinner, but it wasn't on the bill. The menu has many options; I decided on the gnocchi. After some delicious, pillowy-soft bread and a lackluster salad, my dish arrived. The potato dumpling pasta was perfectly made and the meat sauce was very tasty. I usually fill up quickly with pasta and this was no exception. I wasn't quite able to finish the entire dish although I enjoyed every bite I had. Definitely a great choice for Italian food in Bakersfield.

We walked over and had an enjoyable experience. I would first note, they only had 5 of the brewery's own beers on tap. I didn't mind, as I enjoyed a blood orange witbier. I had the sliders with veggie sticks and they were delicious. I was excited to see something besides just chips offered for sides. The seating space is ample and the night we were there, there was music. I was actually pleasantly surprised the music wasn't super loud and echo-y and we could still enjoy conversation. I would recommend stopping by for a beer and some food!

When we made the reservation, no one told us that the restaurant operates as a self-service setup. We assumed, like most places that accept large reservations, that there would be some level of table service. Instead, the table was basically just a place for us to sit and eat. If we wanted drinks, we had to go up to the bar ourselves to order them. When it came time to eat, we had to leave the table again and go up to the front counter to place our food orders. No one came to the table to take orders, check on us, or even bring water. We ended up having to get water ourselves as well. What was most frustrating was at the end when I went to pay the bill and was told that an automatic 20% gratuity had been added because we were a large party. I completely understand adding gratuity when a staff is actively serving a large group taking orders, bringing drinks, refilling water, checking on the table, etc. But in this case there was essentially no service provided. Everything from ordering drinks, ordering food, and getting water was self-service. If the restaurant is going to run this way, that's fine but it should be clearly communicated when a large group makes a reservation, and automatic gratuity for "service" that didn't happen doesn't feel appropriate. We come to Bakersfield twice a year and after this experience, I don't think we will ever be back.

It was our first time, and both the inside and outside were a little run down. I was happy to see there was a police there to secure the parking lot. The crowd that was attracted to "family night" hardly fit the category, it looked more like "discount night." But everyone kept to their own for the most part and cooperated smoothly on the roller rink, so I had no concerns. The music was also not very family oriented. Near the end the music was toned down a bit and I saw a few more families arriving with small children which was nice to see. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. We didn't try the small arcade or any food/snacks they also sell, so I can't review those. But based off the helpful staff and our children enjoying roller skating, we will be back. Hopefully the music is a little more family friendly.
