I've stayed at this Holiday Inn Express on Hughes Ln many times over the years and have generally had good experiences, which makes this situation especially frustrating. During a stay in late February 2026 (Room 432), I encountered live roaches in the room and checked out immediately (2 days into a 4-day stay). That alone was bad enough, but what followed was worse. At checkout, I asked the front desk clerk, Lydia, if this had been reported before and was told it was "not the first time." I expected management to follow up, but no one reached out. After multiple attempts, I finally spoke with the manager (Cal), who told me the issue was not isolated and blamed their pest control vendor. He also said he had tried to contact me but didn't have my number, which didn't make sense given that my contact information is provided at check-in. I tried to resolve this through IHG Diamond Services starting January 30. While they initially responded, the case stalled while waiting on the hotel. I eventually escalated to executive-level review and never received any response at all. Nearly two months later, there is still no resolution. I travel frequently for work, stay at IHG properties often, and don't write reviews like this lightly. A serious room issue is one thing, but the complete lack of follow-through and accountability is what stands out. Disappointing experience overall. read more

Honestly what you would expect at staying at the holiday inn. Some cons: the tv was too small and outdated. The rooms are old and the carpet was dusty. Also, the most annoying part was that the Fire alarms went off throughout our stay and woke up our baby during her nap. Some pros: Staff friendly. Checked in due to visiting family. There are not much options around their house. This is not the best hotel I've ever stayed at, but for this little town, I would consider it pretty good. They have a pool (tiny) and hot tub (no need to use as it's normally so hot here). There was no fee for parking. Hotel was clean and had a mini fridge, small TV, small microwave, and you can request toothbrush/paste and razor if needed. I thought the pillows were cute as they had it discreetly labeled as a pair of soft and a pair of firm for everyone's different preference. AC worked well. Staff were polite and there was a great breakfast in the morning. They had a cool pancake maker machine, one push of the button and it will make two pancakes for you (great for more clean method of making them). They had a good omelette, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, oatmeal, muffins, cinnamon rolls, yogurt, milk, juice...just a lot to satify everyone. Fresh fruit also! This was an interesting stay. If you've read some of my other reviews, you'll know that my hotel stays can be quite unique. This one was no different, but had a mix of good/bad. Let's get into it. Room/Hotel - The room itself was decent sized, and I had a wonderful view of a parking lot/putt-putt area/pool. The room was clean, which is a plus. The bed was comfortable, which is another plus. Here's where the interesting stuff comes into play. I was struggling to fall asleep due to what I thought was construction noise nearby. I went to my window to find it was a tow truck, and he appeared to be speaking to a couple of "ladies of the night" who must have been operating out of a car that may or may not have worked. It looked like he was supposed to tow their car, and they may have been pleading for him to let them keep their office in place. Eventually the noise of the tow truck went away, and I was too tired to check the conclusion to this saga. About an hour later, I was woken up by my entire room shaking with a train going by. I never noticed the train tracks when checking in, but it was impossible to miss once the train was going by! Most people have to pay at least a quarter for a vibrating bed, but I got mine for free. Pro tip - Wait for the train to come by for your love making to get the full seedy motel experience with the vibrating bed. Staff - The staff were nice and this location offered a free chocolate chip cookie upon check in. The cookie was good and their breakfast area the next day was also pretty good. Overall, I would have enjoyed my stay a lot more if it weren't for the sex worker saga and the train feeling like it was going through the middle of my room. There was one random moment where we got into the elevator and the door wouldn't stop opening and closing making me think I was about to die in some Final Destination type of fashion, but it eventually resolved itself and then wasn't a problem again. Other than these things, the rest of the stay was nice. Not sure if I'd come back here again for work purposes. Sleep is very important and I didn't get as much as I would've liked for my event the next day. read more

I guess because I used my points for my room. I was given the crappy room. The room has a weird smell and then no chair in the room. I would have gone back to the front desk but she wasn't that friendly and I didn't want to revisit her. My husband stated that's why he didn't want to stay there but at the moment we had no choice as our house was getting worked on. This place looks nice and is being redone. However, there is a train that runs through town at 1:15am and 4:15am. If you don't mind being woken by a train blasting its horn not once but twice in one night, book it! The idea of an overnight stay is to rest. The front desk lady was very nice and had to deal with an incredibly difficult customer in front of us so I felt bad for her. The hotel and the room itself were very dated and even though it was mostly clean it kind of felt dirty/seedy especially since it was dated but also very dark in the room. The ice machine was also broken on the first floor so I had to go farther upstairs to get to a working one. The front desk agent today at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites I stayed at last night was horribly, horribly rude. Her name, I believe was Maravella. She was stressed out by guests who arrived too early and took it out on me and my autistic daughter. She called at, by the clock in the room, 1:03. We had arrived at after 3 am and they had given us a 1 pm check out. When she called we had our back packs on and I was trying to get us out the door. I told her I was trying to get us out of the room and she continued to rudely berate me and threaten to charge me for another night. I explained I was trying to get my autistic daughter out and she said, "I don't care. What does that have to do with me? You need to get out so that the people checking in can get it." She has 0 customer service skills. When I tried to talk to her about it at checkout she doubled down on the rude. All I did was say, "By calling and being rude, all you did is make it take longer for us to get out of the room." She immediately got super defensive and loud and said she wasn't rude, I was. I said she acted the same on the phone as she was acting now and she then blamed her behavior on me and me being rude. As I was leaving she muttered Karen underneath her breath. Which I am not. I have never, ever complained about any of my stays in IHG hotels. I have stayed in this one several times and never complained. You can even see my positive review from 2020 below. She was HORRIBLE. She wouldn't even check me out and was just an awful person. She didn't even know who I was when I walked up but there was no smile, no greeting, no "how may I help you?" Just stared at me. I didn't inform hotel management because the awful woman at the front desk told me to leave. I never raised my voice but she definitely raised hers. She yelled at me. She called me rude, and then when we were face to face when I tried to explain that we were a few minutes late because my autistic daughter was having a hard time, she again said, "What does that have to do with me? I don't care about that." She clearly lacks not only all customer service skills but also lacks common human empathy. My daughter was literally right there with tears still in her eyes. She needs to learn about how to treat people who are different, like my non-verbal, high care needs autistic daughter, with kindness and respect. Be careful making a reservation with Holiday Inn Express because if you are unable to keep your reservation, the company will take your money all the way to the bank. I made a reservation for two nights for dates in early February. Unfortunately, I contracted a fungal infection on my hands and my physician told me I could be contagious. I thought I was doing the right thing by not going on my trip. I did not want to take the chance of infecting hotel employees or guests. Now my credit card has been charged $500 for the nights that I never used. I have friends in Bakersfield, and I will be traveling there a few times this year. I will not be staying at a Holiday Inn. I am going to Bakersfield in a couple of weeks and I have reservations at another hotel in town. There were positives about this hotel like the breakfast and cleanliness but I'm afraid I can only give it two stars. All I care is that it's clean, quiet and comfortable. It was clean. However, the bed was hard as a rock. After two sleepless nights on that horrible mattress we could hardly wait to get home. As that's not enough, our room was adjacent to a train track and each night between 2 and 4 am it would come barreling down the track blaring its horn. Not cool at all. I do wish hotels could be more generous with towels, this one no exception. Folks with long hair need two, one for hair and one to dry with. It wouldn't be too hard to leave four towels for two people. But you have to ask for an extra one. The bathroom was otherwise well equipped with mounted supplies rather than little bottles and baby soaps, which worked out fine. Plenty of counter space and a nice shower head with non-slip tub. Good size fridge and two chairs. Just wish we could have gotten some sleep. read more

If I could rate this place zero stars I would. This place is disgusting and filthy. My parents just stayed here, and there room was infested with bed bugs. After taking it up with management i should say more like the front desk. they were not able to reimburse them with there money back. This shows the lack of training and how unprofessional the staff is. Very comfortable hotel to stay at in Bakersfield! It is located in a very dimly lit area of town, but it is a very fairly priced stay for the amount of amenities you get while being a guest here. We stayed in a double full-size bed room, and it was a great space to relax in. The beds and pillows were comfortable and clean. The room also had all of the usual amenities including a Keurig and TV, and the bathroom even had soaps and hair products that are non-toxic plant based formulas, which I really appreciate. There were a few imperfections, like my mom almost pulled the entire mini-fridge out of the spot it was in from trying to open it, but nothing that could completely ruin your time here. The complimentary breakfast is pretty good considering that there are enough options to meet dietary restrictions and still fill you up for the day. Several people stood and stared in fascination at the automatic pancake maker. Great way to end our stay before check out at 11AM. read more

Don't stay here if you value your property. My vehicle was broken into in the Hotel parking lot, everything of value was stolen and the the Hotel *security or anyone from management didn't even notice. Upon waking at around 7am I walked out to my car to find all four doors wide open and the glass windows broken out. All valuables were stolen. When I went to speak to the Manager I was told they were not at the property. When I asked to speak to the security that was on patrol that night, I was told there was a shift change and they had gone home. Conveniently no one at this Hotel knew anything about my car being broken into. Nothing on Camera as well. You would think a National chain as large as this one might have some security, but as I unfortunately found out there is none. Upon more research at this location, there is a very high number of thefts and break-ins at this Hotel in Bakersfield. Took off a star only because of the location noise due to highway traffic, such as sirens. Highway noise was not a problem. Worst holiday inn I've stayed at. The printer didn't work, my key cards didn't work upon check in, and had to go back down multiple times. Turned out that the lock on my door was upside down. Other times the cards just plainly didn't work for any out door entrances. The music in the halls were loud enough to hear while sleeping. My husband and I had been staying in this hotel for over 3 months due to water damage in our home. We have had 3 diffrent incidents while staying here since then we had been moved to 3 diffrent rooms during our stay. First room we had bed bugs in our bed, second room the bathroom from the 4th floor flooded over to our restroom and the last room housekeepers wouldn't do their job. We had a check out date untill August 25 unfortunately due to a poor lack of management, poor house keeping & gossiping from some house keeping/laundry lady & kitchen lady we got kicked out today for complaining to managment yesterday about housekeeping giving me a hard time for an entire month regarding us putting our sign on the door according to some of the housekeeping and their policies the sign was avoiding them to go in to clean. That sign would only be their on certain times during the morning. Some of the Housekeeping lady's and the kitchen lady Juana started to gossip about me saying that I was always asleep and that was one of their excuse to not cleen the room. I had to go to work at 11:30am and my husband would come in right after me from work in many occacions he had them walk in on him to clean the room while he was asleep. I asked several times for them to set a time to come in and do the cleaning they said that they would be ok to set a time with me I agreeed with them at 9:00am and that never worked. Belen from front desk called my room on friday 7/19/19 to ask me what time I wanted them to go in? I told her my room was already done since I had left before 9am on that morning, she then asked me to call them each morning to let them know each morning when I left so that they could do my room. Why would I have to to that every day? That's their job to go and knock since the sign was not at the door. Who told her to even call me in the first place? According to management manager "Laura" who is so unprofessional and rude said that the staff and her self felt threatened by us. She told us to leave the hotel as soon as possible because we had threaten her, we had recieved a call from a 3rd party company who had done our reservation to notify us on their decision of kicking us out today by 2:30pm when my husband arrived to the hotel after work 12pm we went to ask on why they had decided to kick us out and that was their excuse. Why would they feel threatened by us? Because we are mexicans and she's white? Because we asked for a solution and they failed to do so? My husband asked to speak to the manager on top of her and her excuse was that he was in a phone conference he said its fine I'll wait for him she then said he wouldn't be available for the entire day. When i said to her that him being unavailable to speak to us was a bs story to have us not talk to him she started to screem at us infront of other people (guest) and staff "to get out of her hotel premises as soon as possible" she doesn't deserve to even be called a manager. I have filled a corporate complain towards her and every staff involved in this situation and hopefully something good is done out of this situation. Thanks to this unnecessary drama/problem we are now in a real hotel with staff that knows how to care for their customers and has a great customer service. My advice to anyone staying there for a long time is to run away as soon as possible and to avoid the gossiping lady from the kitchen Juana that will save you from many headaches. The only good thing about this place is they still have a few good workers who they don't appreciate or respect. Security guard's deserve a better hotel to work at and Jhonathan and Chan are the only good front desk workers with a positive attitude and a good customer service the rest can't even bother to even give you a fake smile or a fake greating. read more

The property is very nice but I had to deduct two stars for the following: 1. The first room they put me in (#431) smelled of cigarette smoke - and seeing that someone had to go into the room prior to my arrival to switch out the feather pillows, they should have alerted the front desk and switched rooms prior to my arrival. 2. I was moved to room #424 which was a perfect room but on this side of the building I could hear the trains very clearly - there were two during the evening/night. Now to the positive The Front desk receptionist was attentive, professional and quite efficient. When I call down to address my concerns regarding the first room she immediately adapted, change rooms and had the maintenance person meet me upstairs on the forth floor with keys to the new room. My room was extremely nice, spacious and clean! I did notice there were no USB outlets anywhere in the room which is not typical for an IHG property. The room came with a desk and chair, a separate chair and ottoman, a flat screen television with numerous channels available, a microwave and a half size refrigerator (no freezer). The bed was extremely comfortable with ample pillows provided as I requested. The bathroom was spacious and clean and the towels were probably the fluffiest I've ever experienced at and IHG brand. Once I fell asleep, I did not wake up until the following morning. There was an exterior inground pool and a hot tub however I did not use these abilities nor did I eat breakfast. As I was departing this morning I did take it to the fitness room there appears to be a little machine, a treadmill and free weights available. He is very patient and you can tell he has a genuine love for animals. They are a little pricey but they will price match and often email coupons. I prefer this one over the one on Blackstone & Barstow. I drive outta of my way to come here to the Clovis location because they are so helpful and polite- unlike the location on blackstone where they are rigid rude and condescending. read more
