We brought Ruby, our 6 month old Bernese Mountain Dog, to Jake for general obedience training. She left us a rambunctious pup full of energy. Constantly running in the house muddy, jumping on the couch and climbing all over us, stealing shoes and eating socks, knocking the kids down, stealing food at the dinner table.. So full of love but so full of energy that she ended up spending a lot of time running it off outside. Ruby participated in the 3 week board and train with Jake and what a difference it has made! Its like we have a new dog! She is still full of energy but Jake was able to channel that energy into obedience and positivity. The relationship we have with Ruby now is unbelievable. She follows commands, hasn't been on the couch since she's been home and no longer jumps on the kids in the yard or the house. We are able to send her to her bed and she will stay there while we cook dinner, eat dinner and clean up. No matter what the distraction, she stays put! I cannot say enough good things about this training. Jake gave us many updates throughout and has been very responsive to any questions we have had since shes been home. You definitely have to do your part in following through and reinforcing the training once Jake has taught her all she needs to know. He makes it easy to understand how to work with her once you get home. A Leg Up K-9 was our first and only choice for training for our Cane Corso. Jake previously worked with my lab 5 years ago and when we got our pup I knew immediately that Jake would have him for his 3 week board and train program. Pharaoh was a biter. Not aggressively biting, but puppy biting, trying to show dominance as his breed often does, not leash training and jumping on people prior to us going to Jake. Now, Pharaoh will not even open his mouth to bite, he doesn't jump, stays in place for hours at a time, walks OFF LEASH with us wherever we go, plays well with other dogs, and know his place in our home. Jake truly has done wonders with Pharaoh and we can now enjoy our dog the rest of his life without the headache of those annoying behaviors that can make owning a dog less desirable. We got a 12 week old Belgian Malinois pup. After a few months she was becoming very reactive and aggressive to passing cars, people, other dogs, or anything else moving while we were outside. We tried a group training class our vet recommended. We tried a pet behaviorist. We also tried private training. Nothing was working and we thought we would have to rehome her. Finally I reached out to several trainers through Facebook. All of them said the same thing, call Jake Brandberry. We couldn't be happier. He had no problem answering any questions we had. A Leg Up K-9 has given us the dog we always dreamed of by helping him reach his full potential. I am so pleased with the results after sending my 6 month old Golden Retriever, Cash, to Jake for the 3 week off leash program! Prior to training we had a hard time controlling Cash, especially around our senior dog. Now we're able to take him on walks without him dragging us down the sidewalk, he no longer jumps up on furniture, play biting our hands/clothes has completely stopped, he doesn't bother the other dog anymore, and we're able to enjoy his personality so much more while having control both outside and inside the house. This is not a 2 or 3 week automatic "fix" - meaning that Jake sends your dog home equipped with all the knowledge from training, but there is practice and work to be done with you and your dog when they get home so they don't slip back into old habits. Jake is extremely knowledgeable and effective with his training techniques. He understands how the dogs think and explains them in such a way that makes total sense. There wasnt any situation that he couldn't answer with a solution and reason of why the problem existed. He was very responsive to us when we reached out with additional questions or issues that came up. Covi was a stray we adopted a couple months ago. He had been running wild for at least a few weeks. He was sweet and loved playing with other dogs and kids, however, he had no concept of discipline whatsoever. Jumped all over furniture, chewed up everything and ran the neighborhood. Now, we can let him outside with no leash and he stays in the yard. He doesn't jump on furniture anymore, walks calmly next to our sides and listens when given commands. Even though I loved her more than anything else in the world, my dog was on mine and my family's last nerve. She knew no personal boundaries and I was afraid to take her places in fear she would jump on people or get lose and run away. I was worried about costs of board and train, but now I wish I had done it earlier as it is a great investment. After putting her in board and train with Jake, she listens, is completely off leash, and understands that people don't like muddy paws all over them. My family no longer hates when we come to visit and I feel more comfortable taking her places. She's also completely off leash, so I never have to worry about her running away! Jake does an amazing job at training! The difference in the manners our dog has now is night and day. Before we could never take her on a walk without maisie our dog dragging us down the street! Now she's stays by our side in heel position. Maisie now can lay calmly on her bed and not be anxious all the time! Which is a big achievement because before she would never lay down in the house due to her anxiety. I've seen a few bad reviews and we haven't had any problems with communication at all! Jake has always responded quick whenever I had questions while she was in training and to schedule follow up training. Jake was fantastic working with my 3 year old GSD. She was always nervous and reacting to everything around her. She'd growl at anyone who got too close and I was afraid she'd bite someone. Now I'm able to take her on hikes and to the park off leash without worrying about every little thing. She listens to what I say and is fast to follow her commands. She's made miles of progress and with continued work is a whole new dog. Jake was great about setting up the follow up sessions and breaking everything he was teaching her down so we could understand her perspective. We have been so pleased with the training our puppy received at A Leg Up K9!!! We brought our 6 month old Great Dane to A Leg Up K9. He liked to use his paws to get your attention, jump on us and pulled on the leash. We couldn't ever let him be off a leash. He would never sleep in his cage and he would bark and whine ALL night. He was a different dog when he came home! As a new dog mom, I have learned a lot from Jake at A Leg Up K9. My puppy went to Jake at 7 months old and chewed everything, always play biting, and not walking well on a leash. I've had two dogs trained here, mine and my parents, and had a great experience both times. My two, very poorly mannered corgis spent two weeks with Jake. One dog is five and the other is one. Neither had had any real training before. After those two weeks, both dogs are completely transformed, with the ability to sit and stay without being swept up in all of their normal and frequent distractions.
