Had a variety of food ready for us including Queijo da serra with pumpkin jam, which is cheese of the mountain, a very soft buttery cheese, which was just delicious with the pumpkin jam. Next was Pastéis de bacalhau or codfish cakes which were the best that we had in Lisbon. Next up, Octopus salad, which I did not expect to like, but it had a great flavor of olive oil and white wine vinegar and I would order again for sure! And finally Peixinhos da horta, or fish of the garden. Which turns out to be tempura fried green beans. They were also very good. They said they had real Portuguee Periperi chicken but they brought me a deep fried chicken laying in a bed of oil. The steak was undercooked & the pasta was bland. The fish was tasteless. While this place is right smack in the tourist district, just off Praca dom Pedro IV (if you are on the plaza, just pass through the arch and you'll see this place), the price is very reasonable and not at all touristy, even though most of the diners appeared to be tourists like us. There is another restaurant listing called O Bacalhoeiro, but they are actually the same place with one entrance. They were likely separate restaurants in the past, I don't know if it's through happy marriage or hostile take-over, but now a doorway is dug through the wall and the two places operate as one. They have a multi-language menu, plus a non-translated daily specials. Like many restaurants in Portugal, they bring you a few appetizers which you can leave untouched, or tell them which ones you want and they'll whisk the rest away (for the next table), but if you take a bite you'll be billed. We went on a weekend evening and there was a wait for about half an hour. We were looking forward to trying the seafood rice, but they were out. So I ended up with a grilled octopus, which I enjoyed very much - it's a whole octopus, with head and all the arms, for €9.50 including sides. The grilled ribs were tender and very flavorful too. When the meal was over, we were treated to a complimentary shot of port wine. A most delicious and surprisingly affordable meal. read more

The food is OK, but there's a lack of organization overall. Arrived, asked for the main dish, water and octopus. 3 min later the server tells me there's no octopus. Ok, then let's try the shrimps and the soup of the day. 10 min later the shrimp arrives, in total, 8 shrimps. They were good. At this moment we ask for bread... minutes later the server says there's none... but then is served on a table that sat after us???? The soup arrives 15 min after we asked for it. It was ok. Then the main dish arrives, 30 min after we order. Sardines and tuna. Decent food, the best of all. Conclusion: the food is not bad, but I don't want to be asking for something and then there's none, or there is but for some reason my server didn't knew about it or lied to me? In general, is a 3/5, but because of the total chaos deserves a 2/5. Not recommended. read more

Awesome place! We were walking through the touristy area of Lisboa, looking for a place to eat, but not wanting to go to a tourist trap lining the main thoroughfare. We came across this little place on a side street (right across from an adult peepshow place LOL) and decided to check it out. There was a long line at about 7:30pm, and we weren't sure how long the wait would be, so we wandered around the area a bit, checking out the holiday decor and the other shops and restaurants. We returned to the restaurant about an hour later, and there were only two parties waiting, so we got in line. We only waited about 20 minutes before they had a table available. There was some bread, octopus ceviche salad, and pasteis de bacalhau already on the table. We were hungry and started digging in (FYI you're expected to pay for this, even the bread). We ordered two of the porco preto (black pork) dishes, and I tried the cod sauteed in olive oil and garlic. The fish dish was good, but those pork entrees were muito fantastico! One of the best pieces of meat I've ever tasted; not sure if it's because of how they seasoned the meat, or the breed of pig, or both. At any rate, do yourself a favor and order one or both of these porco preto dishes! We also tried the vinho verde (green wine) which was similar to white wine, but smoother and not as sweet. The bottle was left in a wrap to keep it cold, poured into chilled glasses. After the gastronomical feast, the bartender poured us a mysterious red beverage into small shot glasses. Since they were in shot glasses, we automatically tilted our heads back and emptied the glass. The drink was much sweeter than anticipated, and surprisingly delicious! The barkeep noted our pleasure, and served us another round, which we of course downed again. After using the restroom, I asked him the name of the drink, and he showed me the bottle: it's called Ginja liquor with fruit. He immediately poured us ANOTHER shot each! Now THAT is above and beyond customer service! Granted, they were closed at this point, but still. So treat yourself if you're ever in the area and go to this place for dinner, preferably late in the evening so you can take your time, and maybe the friendly staff will indulge you with a shot or two (or three!) of this delicious liquor. read more

Phenomenal place win great customer service. This place was recommended by my hotel's front desk as a place they commonly visit for lunch. The place is known and visited by locals. Great food with wonderful staff. My wife and I had our 1 YEAR OLD screaming baby and the staff was nice enough to not only put up with her but also play with her and try to calm her down by giving her "restaurant toys" like a straw :) As a matter of fact I am here again tonight to try out more of their menu. This restaurant is an absolute must while you're visiting Lisbon. We had both lunch and dinner. We each had a soup of the day and shared a mixed salad. We shared a mixed fish rice entree that was as delicious as any gourmet restaurant would serve. Because of our challenged linguistic ability, we asked our server Miguel to choose the dessert. Wow! What a dessert! A Carmel mouse! We returned tonight and decided to have Miguel choose our entree. We had the same soup, mixed green salad, and Miguel chose for us grilled octopus and a wonderful dessert. I am not sure what it was called. But, I think anything they choose will be delicious. This restaurant was described to us as a casual spot to try traditional Portuguese food and this is a apt description. The servers all spoke English, German and French to help out the mostly tourist clientele. Despite the fact that there seemed to be few locals there when we first arrived the two-sided restaurant filled up with Lisboans towards the end of our meal. I guess we just ate too early! As this was our first meal in Lisbon we really did not know what to expect. Looking back the preparations were pretty standard and/or authentic. The grilled meat sampler was very basically seasoned and served with fresh chips and fries. A whole fried cod was salted and accompanied by a simply dressed salad of green lettuce and tomatoes. We also ordered "grilled spare ribs" but this came out more like a large, flat steak with the bone in like a t-bone. At the conclusion of our meal we were treated to little glasses of some cherry liquor and toasted with a hearty "Ching-Ching!" ... a sweet conclusion to a good meal in a comfortable and non-pretentious environment. read more

OK food but far from a 4,5 star. First of all it starts with unannounced starters. After that orders are taken quickly, the wine is opened fast and food appears all in one plate. Quality is average, it's not from a chef with passion and you taste and see that. Waiters bring no atmosphere at all. If you are in a hurry and expect one plate service from a food court quality go ahead. I would say look around there is so much more fun for the same money in the neighborhood. read more

The place is very good when it comes to the seafood. I had grilled octopus one day, beef the day after. My wife had fish twice. Both were delicious but seafood is just better. The place gets packed fairly quickly so if you want to avoid waiting for the table arrive at 7 pm. You will get the appetisers marinated octopusb and something which name I dont remember without being asked and you need to pay for them so if you want something else let them know in advance. read more

Cute little restaurant in Lisbon serving up good sized portions for very reasonable prices. While this wasn't my favourite place that I ate at in Lisbon it also wasn't a bad experience , there just wasn't anything particular memorable about it. We had the mixed grilled meat plate which comes with fries and rice. The portion was very generous and the meats were chicken , sausage and beef. The food was decent , well cooked and filling. Service was also efficient and brought us a free shot of ginja at the end of the meal. This also seems like a good place for families. One thing I didn't like was that as soon as you sit down they put two random appetizers on the table and walk away without saying anything , these are not free of charge so unless you wish to eat and pay for them definitely ask them to take them away and choose your own appetizers (if you want any) from the menu yourself. Like I said for me this was not a bad experience but there was nothing that really stood out to make this meal something to Remember , but it will do the trick for anyone looking for generous portions of decent food at a good price. Terrific restaurant in one of Lisbon's oldest neighborhoods, located down a quiet street. The meal was fabulous, the wine outstanding, and the dessert was excellent, all topped off with a small glass of Vinho do Porto, which was included with the meal. This was our favorite restaurant in Lisbon. As with everything in Lisbon, it was a terrific value. The server was conversant in English, which is always appreciated. Highly recommended. read more
