It is bigger than it looks as it has a back room and also a basement. They have a lot of home decor items in the basement. This is a consignment shop so the clothes and decor are higher priced than say Goodwill but they are better quality items. I found the prices to be reasonable. They also had cases of jewelry near the checkout. I will definitely be returning here to check out their new items.

The home goods section can be a mixed bag, but I've found some really great items there. They have a smaller book section, but I've found that the titles are usually pretty good. Prices are generally pretty fair. If you're looking for recognizable brand-name clothes at a bargain though, this might not be the place because they know what they have and tend to price up on anything with a known brand name, regardless of the item's condition. We rented some beautiful pieces for our show this month, and Marianne was amazing in getting everything set up and ready for us. When returning most of the items, I made the mistake of returning a shirt to the wrong location, so I had to come back the next week to complete everything. I was ready to pay an extension fee, but she was kind and allowed for that margin. We had a dress and lace-up shirt to bring back as well. My mother dropped off the dress first, and was told sternly by Nancy there would be a $40 damage fee. I wasn't sure what that was for, so when I stopped by to drop off the lace up shirt, I asked. I have a new costume team, so if mistakes were made, I want to make sure they know where they must improve. I have no problem paying the fee- prices here are very fair- but something happened after I asked what the fee was for. Nancy stormed away without speaking a minute, planted at another counter, and then proceeded to tear into me, loud enough for the room full of customers to hear, and potentially even the adjacent room. I think she somehow concluded I was trying to get out of a fee, which upset her. Despite me trying to communicate that wasn't the case, not only did she stop listening but she threw insults. A few of Nancy's choice sentences: "You are so snooty" "Your energy is killing me" "Has anyone ever told you that before? It's true" "You sound so snippy" "Everything you say is so passive aggressive" -I replied I was being genuine, she said, "I don't believe you." "I have been doing this for 40 years so if there's an issue I know it's not me." "Blip blip blip blip" (mimicking me talking and cutting me off for asking where to drop off the final shirt this week) Even if I was trying to negotiate damages, you still shouldn't use public shaming as a tactic. The customer is not always right, but I do believe that standards of mutual respect should be held in all interactions. Marianne was kind, professional, helpful, and honestly made the magic of clothing and performance come alive for me and my cast that came with me. Nancy was hostile, insulting, aggressive, and never even created space for response. I do have the interaction recorded, so all details can be corroborated. I'm not the person to post it (public shaming is not my method) but I'm happy to share the recording with the owners for reflection. I do hope moving forward that a space where artists can create that much magic together can also be a space of safety, gentleness, and mutual respect.

She pulled extra pieces for me to try on and recommended the pair that fit best. With this selection and service, Idlewild is a great reason to shop small and local.

There are multiple sections of the store that are especially rich in great finds. The kitchen section is fantastic, with tons of glassware and kitchenware to dig through. You'll also find plenty of trinkets, vases and planters, and furniture scattered throughout the store, which really adds to the treasure hunt feel. The main body of the store is filled with many clothing racks, and I've found a lot of great brands here, including plenty of Levi's jeans and similar staples. This is always the thrift store I recommend when someone says they want to start thrifting but don't know where to begin. It's approachable, affordable, and consistently rewarding. The staff has always been wonderful as well. There are a few employees who have worked here for years, and every interaction I've had with them has been pleasant and friendly. There have been a few employees that I am not sure love their job...BUT THEN THERE IS DARLENE. Darlene (and even Mike) are the shining stars in this place and they make up for any deficiencies. And if the truth be known, Darlene is one of the reasons we go there- she is a beautiful soul with a heart for people and I have seen many other people come in who also greet Darlene by name! So she knows her folks- and when you know your folks, you are treated right and want to keep coming back. There isn't enough room here to express our appreciation for Darlene. Mike, the current manager, is a good one, too. He is kind and warm and he genuinely cares about his customers. One day this will all be gone. Time and space will overtake us and we will all move on. BUt for now, this is my place, and I enjoy every minute I am there. Darlene, don't you ever change. And Mike, steer that ship! You are appreciated more than you can imagine.
