We are constantly threatened by a series of potential disasters, both natural and man-made. For someone new to being a Survivalist building your first Bug Out Bag can seem like a big task. Everybody you read about has been tweaking theirs for months or even years and has a pile of gear built up. The military load bearing system is set up in a 3 day (web gear), 5-7 day (rucksack), and a 14 day (duffle bag/footlocker). It's hard to know where to start, but if you cover all of the basics in a survival situation you will still be much better off than 99% of the people. A Bug Out Bag, (also called a BOB, Get Out of Dodge Bag, GOOD, or 72 Hour Bag) is usually designed to get you out of an emergency situation and allow you to survive self-contained for up to 3 days. A lot of people plan their Bug Out Bag to sustain them for much longer than that, but there is always a limit to what you can carry on your back and a 3 day target is a good place to start. Back in March, I had a tube replaced that within a couple of weeks had blown. The good thing is, since this kept happening with them, it finally taught me how to replace my own tubes. The other good thing is that I could see how cheap the Bishop's tube was quality wise compared to the tube I bought for myself on Amazon. The other good thing is that on Amazon, I also found a great digital tire gauge/pump on Amazon to help take care of future issues. I immediately realized that one source of my tube blowouts was that the rather handsomely priced tire pump/gauge I had bought at Bishops years earlier was defective/inaccurate. So my bad for over-inflating. But their bad for selling crappy merchandise at inflated bike store prices. More recently, the crank on my bike broke (left pedal fell off as the hardware gave way). Not easy getting back five miles on one pedal, but did, and took it to Bishops for repair. They replaced the crank. Less than a month later, the left crank shaft falls off, again while I'm on the bike trail. This time at least I was able to screw it back in, since I had the necessary hex tool kit and the hardware wasn't completely broken. It was still making a grinding sound, which it had done before the failure. I took it back and told them I expected it to be repaired properly. The woman said the service manager would take a look. I still haven't heard back a few hours later. But after giving them until tomorrow morning, I'll go collect the bike one way or the other, take it Montgomery Cyclery, and deal with refund issues through other channels. Regardless, my days of doing business with Bishops are over forever. This saddens me, because it is a longstanding institution, oldest continuous operating bike shop in the U.S. But, hey, I'd stop doing business with the Wright Brothers if they kept continuously messing me over as well. Stay away.

I recently got back into cycling after a hiatus and purchased a used hybrid bike that no longer…read moreshifted properly. I had used Bishops in the past, and since I work in Milford, I dropped the bike off and was told they would do a tune up, and remove and clean the trigger shifters/replace cables and that would solve the problem. 2 weeks and 180 dollars later, I pick the bike up on my way home and go out riding the next day. The shifters still did not work. Thumb triggers just went to nowhere when pushed. Called and they said to bring it back up. I pointed out to the tech that judging from the dust around the assembly, it had never been removed from the bike. He looked at my ticket and told me they would take care of it. Surprisingly the next day they called (Saturday) and I again picked up the bike on my lunch break. No apology, but they said if they didn't work that we could replace the shifters. Uhm. didn't they test them? Next morning I go riding. The shifters are working! But... they were put on in such a way I couldn't get my fingers into the top trigger by sliding as they were too close to the brake. And on top of that, there was a sticky substance on the bike seat. I wasn't paying much attention and wasn't too concerned, but when I sat down I found I literally became glued to the seat. When I got off the bike, the top layer of rubber came off and stuck to my pants. The seat was ruined. It was an old cheap seat. I didn't really care, but what an inconvenience. Stuck it back in my hatchback and it sat there until they opened Tues morning. I wheeled the bike in, and asked to speak to someone about my experience. The young female tech promptly adjusted the triggers. I calmly told them about my seat. I explained that this was my third time back and expressed concerns about the quality control there. How does a bike leave the shop without the main issue being fixed, then with shifters assembled so that they are unusable? I asked them how I could trust that I actually got the "tune up" services that I paid for. I pointed out that little things, like my downturned front reflector, weren't even properly adjusted during the safety tune up (aren't they supposed to go over everything?) and that if they couldn't be bothered to take the time to do that, how was I supposed to have confidence in the other tune up services and adjustments? The three employees just stared at me. No apologies. No reassurances. Silence. Until one guy said only this "we didn't spill anything on your seat." Ok, I said. But it wasn't like that when I sat on it last time and it was only here and the back of my car... They continued to just stare at me. No offer to help me find and purchase a new seat, no apologies for my three trips, no rebuttals to my quality control concerns, no offer of compensation for my hassles. Ok, I say, I just wanted to let you know I'm not happy with the service. I slowly turned my bike around and went out. The entire experience was unbelievable. This shop seems to have serious issues with quality control, customer service, and overall accountability. I'm so disappointed. Bishops when my pal Chris L. used to work there was a high quality establishment and it's a shame it's gone so downhill. Please if you come here, check their work in the parking lot. If I'd not gone off site the two times I picked up the bike and test rode it, I would have avoided a lot of hassle and their calling me a liar about a 10 dollar seat.

The search kept saying only 3 stores carried them and two of them were in KY. One e of those was Dicks. So we decided to drive to our local one. The point: (Told ya I'd get here ) Making my way to the back of the very clean and organized store, the heavens parted and I heard angels singing-it was really a baby crying but I snapped to reality rubbing my eyes in disbelief at what I was seeing! Hokas!! And not just a few pairs-a whole designated section of them! I promptly shoved my hubby and the crying baby out of the way, calm down this is all mental lol, and made my first pick. Scanned the shoe's barcode in a scanner, and out popped a young man almost instantaneously to serve me. Was it meant to be? Ohh yes. The comfort, the immediate relief on my feet! I was being propelled forward to walk as if these babies were one with body. I boxed them up. Said yes to the shoe. The hubby said aren't you going to try on others? I said, "I found the truth. There is no other. Now go pick yourself out a pair." Lol He did. And he tried on two just because he likes to overachieve. But he settled on the first pair he tried on which, by the way, was the same model as mine only mine are cooler looking. He found the truth too. And the prices were comparable to what's out there so I was happy! Do you want the same experience? Do your feet hurt in your other expensive gym shoes?? Dicks on Montgomery Rd has it. This is the place to go for great gear, kayaks and customer service. The owners, Bryan, Joe, Emily, and Kara are all very knowledgeable and friendly. It is a fun experience to shop for cute workout clothes, tents, backpacks, kayaks, or stuff for your dog! You are not a number, but a person at RRT. Great neighborhood store, support local business. Forget the big chain stores, you will find the right boots, clothes and gear for you at this place. Say Hi to Vince when you are there and the RRT goat. Don't forget to check out Studio E next door, a great little gem of a fitness studio with pilate, yoga, TRX and bootcamp classes. read more

They have great clothing for outdoor activities, carrying the top brands like Barbour which is high quality and hard to find. The higher retail prices mentioned in other reviews has more to do with the higher quality of the brands carried, their prices are in line with other small retailers for the same brands. The brands they carry will last a long time, so one pays more upfront but does not need to replace the item again, saving money over time. Single purchase is also a very sustainable friendly way to shop. But onto a review of the store, it isn't a place where you'll find fancy displays or wasted floor space but it certainly a place where you can find what you're looking for when you need things fishing, shooting or other outdoor recreation. They have hand tied flies, other flies, some other fishing products and they can help with learning. They carry high quality foot ware, outerwear, clothing (men's and women's) plus nice accessories. The shop is located on the Main Street in Hyde Park Square and is a great place for guys to hang out while your SO shops all over the Square. We enjoyed our first visit and will absolutely be back again.
