Our disturbing experience with A. Perry Homes didn't end after we terminated them from our home. We learned that A. Perry Homes was involved with their employee's Lake County Circuit Court proceedings at the time Tony Perry denied our request to remove the employee from our home. Mr. Perry also threatened to sue me for my online reviews of his organization and made false claims and accusations in his online reply. The team at A. Perry mismanaged our small project and Tony Perry made matters worse. On May 23, 2017, ABC 7 Chicago Eyewitness News Investigator Jason Knowles ran a television piece entitled "Lake County contractor accused of owing thousands, leaving work unfinished," alleging that a contractor defrauded several people through bogus construction schemes. The ABC 7 Eyewitness News story can be found at: http://abc7chicago.com/realestate/contractor-accused-of-owing-thousands-leaving-work-unfinished/2028976 The contractor in the ABC 7 Chicago Eyewitness News story became an employee of A. Perry Homes. Tony Perry assigned him as our project superintendent. During our project, we weren't aware of the allegations set forth in the ABC 7 story. Nevertheless, over the course of time we became seriously concerned with the project supervision. We made a specific request to Mr. Perry to change our project superintendent. Mr. Perry resisted our request and became confrontational. A. Perry Homes knew about their superintendent's prior misconduct when Mr. Perry refused our request. The Circuit Court of Lake County records show two cases involving A. Perry Homes in their superintendent's court proceedings. In one case, The Circuit Court of Lake County issued a wage deduction order to A. Perry Homes to pay the plaintiffs directly from their project superintendent's earnings. According to a court affidavit, the wage deduction summons was delivered in-person to Anthony Perry Jr. and an order was issued to A. Perry Homes. At the time, we were not aware of these court proceedings against our project superintendent and A. Perry's involvement. However, due to serious project concerns, we called Mr. Perry to request a change from this superintendent. It turns out that we made this call shortly after the court issued the wage deduction summons. Mr. Perry denied our request, insisted the superintendent remain on our project, and became confrontational. Mr. Perry threatened me with a lawsuit if I did not take down my online reviews of our experience with A. Perry Homes. This threat was consistent with Mr. Perry's prior attempts to intimidate us. I notified Mr. Perry that I had no intention of removing the online posts because I believe the reviews are an honest and accurate account of our experience with A. Perry Homes. The reviews remain online. Mr. Perry made false claims and accusations in an online reply he posted. Mr. Perry stated we had "outstanding invoices that were several months behind...and it took several more months to collect." We received one invoice from A. Perry Homes and we paid promptly and in full despite our dissatisfaction. We decided full and prompt payment was the best course of action to exit them as quickly and smoothly as possible. Mr. Perry stated that my childrens' health became a concern only after I was required to pay. My concern was caused by demolition debris in my family room and on my twin toddlers' toys due to A. Perry Homes failure to erect a proper barrier. This pattern of false statements, deception, and lack of professionalism was not limited to Anthony Perry. The A. Perry architect on our project, Kent DeReus, misrepresented his drawings of our roof by trying to convince me that I was reading them improperly. Mr. DeReus eventually admitted to his error and misrepresentation. The structure that was actually built by the A. Perry subcontractors looks very different than what was depicted in Mr. DeReus' architectural plans. The Circuit Court of Lake County issued A. Perry Homes another wage deduction order on August 10, 2016, for approximately $63,000 related to a separate case against the contractor (our A. Perry Homes superintendent). read more

Building a custom home can be one of the most challenging life dreams a family can undertake. After careful exploration and vetting, the A. Perry team, our journey was begun. We spoke extensively with current home owners who purchased their custom home from A. Perry to ensure that we had chosen wisely. The home owners were honest with our direct answers and let us view their entire property. We were impressed by the quality of the final product. From our inspiration and vision to meeting the design team to the several draft proposals, we knew that our home would be a unique home given our needs. The design team offered outstanding suggestions that translated our desires into functional yet elegant concepts. Every detail was reviewed during the design sessions. Once approved by us, the permits were submitted, then the construction started. From the excavation, to the framing, to the roof installation, to the window installation, to the mechanicals, we could see our dream come to fruition. As the final product was completed, our daily/weekly walk-throughs were truly filled with excitement. As my wife and I now view our house prior to the final move, we are totally in awe of our dream home. The customer service at A.Perry Homes is top-notch! We have a screened-in-porch with heated floors and a fireplace, and we wanted to be able to use it during the winter. With a big party coming up, A.Perry Homes came to our rescue and sealed up the screened in porch with vinyl sheeting prior to our event. After reaching out to them, they immediately got back to us, proposed various solutions to help us enclose the porch, and then they sent someone over right away to get the job done. Our porch went from being the same temperature as outside (in the 20s in Chicago) to the mid-60s with the heated floor, fire in the fireplace, and vinyl sheeting protecting us from the cold winds. It was perfect for the party! Mike Zaban did a fantastic job, as did Anthony Perry who helped him hang the sheeting. The whole job took them less than a day to complete, and they left our home in pristine condition. The whole team at A.Perry Homes is fantastic to work with, whether the job is big (they built our custom house for us) or small (the screened-in-porch). We worked with A. Perry on the reconstruction of a condo unit. Their design team did a fantastic job of envisioning what we could do with the space (actually two units combined into one). Then the construction started. This was an entire demo, including removing or moving most interior walls, bathrooms, etc. The project took a bit longer than envisioned but the Covid 19 pandemic slowed things down. Key to the success was our interior designer, Artists Concepts, who worked with A. Perry the whole way. The project is completed and we are thrilled with the results. And taking care of the punch list items, which is always an issue, went very smoothly thanks to the project manager Tom Ellison. The only cautionary note I would add is that many of the allowances in the initial budget were not reasonable for the quality we planned to use for cabinets, tile, counters, fixtures, etc. So make sure you plan for what your living style expects, not for what they put in the allowances. They sat down with us and listened to our wants and needs and designed a kitchen not only around that, but also our lifestyle. What wonderful people to work with! I want to sincerely thank A. Perry for generously giving of their beautiful space this past weekend for our local elementary school's annual fundraiser. We had over 200 people attend and it was a huge success. Everyone commented on how gorgeous, clever and interesting the space was and they were grateful that, because of the donation, more of the ticket price they paid went right back to the school instead of on a rental fee. Hillary and Tony were wonderful to work with and selflessly gave of their time on multiple occasions to meet with us and give us ideas and, day of, really went into work mode to ensure everything went smoothly.
