I loved how thorough they were from the beginning- they took the time to meet with me by video to discuss all of my cat Lucy's needs, feeding schedule, playtime, ect. I had so much peace of mind reading their daily reports on Lucy while I was away and loved the pictures they included with the report. I found 'A Pets Best Friend' contact information on my vet clinic's website and decided to investigate. I trust my vet because he does not encourage treatment methods, tests or vaccinations that are not necessary for our pets. Real world and real life, yet an animal focused approach. Plus we have had less than stellar experience with my choice in a boarding facility (gave them a few chances). This positive and trustworthy experience has been been continued with 'A Pets Best Friend'! Melissa Kauffman, the owner and proprietor, was very thorough in her communication over email, phone calls and text. Being very diligent to work with us at our level and needs - conforming to us rather than requiring us to meet any business limitations or constraints, without sacrificing security and reliability. The initial consultation was simple and I was amazed at the understanding and retention as I walked through our typical routine and specific pet needs as if she knew our furry family. Believe me, our rescue pets have some special needs. This was proven in the confirmation email I received later that night. Fast forward to the first pet sitting experience five days later... A huge success!! We received text messages with pictures and written status updates of all of our animals. How the feeding went. Who did what and when. Including what the sitters did with our pets during the time with them. Even a question or two to confirm pet needs. Talk about feeling that our pets were well cared for and that we made a great choice! We will be using 'A Pets Best Friend' for all of our travel pet sitting needs in the future. I'm hoping I'm editing this right as I don't want to change my 5 star rating...but keep as is. After continuing to use A Pet's Best Friend for over 3 years, we have zero complaints. We usually don't think about the service on a daily basis as it's so dependable, but unfortunately we had to put down our cat after 18 years today. While thinking of things, I thought back to when we first got our cat, she was always hiding and really didn't socialize much. I have to say that the last few years she was ALOT more social and I can mainly attribute it to your Pet sitters, in particular Kerry, who we know would commonly pet her and give her love during her visits. We can honestly say that she spent a lot more time out and about with us in the house, or laying in the sun after we started using your services. My husband and I moved to Colorado a few months ago and don't know anyone locally who can pet sit for us when we go out of town. We use dogvacay.com for our dog and I wanted someone to come to the house to watch our cat and bring in mail, etc. I was kind of wary of a pet sitting service because I've never used one. I found a Pet's Best Friend here on Yelp and decided to set up a consultation. Melissa (the owner) got in touch with me right away (very professional and a good first impression!). We set up a consultation meeting and I was really impressed. Melissa showed me a sheet with info. about her pet sitters so I was able to know who would be coming into my home. They use a lock box to hold your house key, so it never leaves your property. The lockbox is yours to keep and the fee is very reasonable (it was $10). Melissa followed up with me a few days before we left to confirm our dates. I was really anxious about leaving my cat, especially since we had a snow storm the weekend we were gone. I had two pet sitters (one weekend, one weekdays) - Susan and Holli. Susan and Holli BOTH were so great about texting me daily to give me an update and let me know all was well. The updates were such a relief and allowed me to enjoy my vacation without worrying about my cat or the mail sitting out. Upon coming home, the house looked good, mail was brought in, kitty was happy, and lots of detailed notes were left by the sitters. I could not be more happy with the service provided by A Pet's Best Friend. I will use them every time we go out of town for our kitty. The rates were extremely reasonable as well. We just used A Pet's Best Friend for overnight sitting for the first time. We do not have any family here locally or in-state that can care for our dogs. Initially we were very reluctant to get an overnight pet sitter because of our experience two years ago with another pet sitter. We paid someone to stay at our house with the dogs and when we returned we found out that they had not done so. Our dogs had gone to the bathroom everywhere in our basement, which we had newly carpeted only two weeks prior. Even worse, it made us sick to think that our dogs were left by themselves (they were only 1 year old at the time) without anyone caring for them. We couldn't understand how someone could be so cruel. Since that time, our family have missed countless family events out of state -- or -- only one of us attends because either my husband or I stay behind to take care of the dogs. Since we have young kids as well, the prospect of never being able to go anywhere as a family was not something that would work long term. Reluctantly, I did some research and found Melissa's service - A Pet's Best Friend -- online. I spoke with Melissa via phone. Then she came to the house to meet us and the dogs. She had an online "data intake" tool that she used to learn everything about our dogs, their personalities, habits, supplies, etc. She left no detail unaddressed. It was very impressive. We also met the person who would be staying overnight with our dogs as well as the person who would be walking them during the day. We knew based on the questions they were asking and the detail behind it that we could feel comfortable with Melissa and her team. Once we left for our trip, we received routine updates and pictures of the dogs doing their thing and enjoying themselves. The updates were something that our entire family looked forward to reading. Not to mention how nice it was to come home to a house that looked exactly like we left it -- with happy dogs! We were just so pleased that our dogs were so well taken care of. We are relieved to be able to find someone who would care for our dogs like we would. We will definitely use A Pet's Best Friend again. read more

This was my first time using a pet sitting service and Melissa and her team were so wonderful! I was a little apprehensive to leave one of our cats as he had health issues right before we left, but the sitters took the time to update me every day on how he was doing. One of our cats is a little more timid than I thought and when he wasn't coming out to eat, the sitters even put the food under the bed to make sure he was still eating. They followed our directions perfectly and I felt so comfortable having them to look after our cats. I've been using Melissa and A Pets Best Friend for several yrs now. At first I was skeptical about someone coming into my house, but have never had anything happen or any reason to complain. My dogs are safe and comfortable at home and not exposed to kennel cough or cages, which always bothered me. Love the sweet notes left behind and descriptions of each daily visit. Our family went to Mexico for a week and we used A Pet's Best Friend for the first time. We wanted to keep them at home rather than boarding them. At our first consultation, my husband and I were very impressed. Melissa is very professional and doesn't leave out any detail. My husband and I just got a new lab puppy, and Melissa's sitting services came recommended by two local vets. She answered on the first call and set up an in-person consultation so I could meet her and my sitter. She was able to accommodate our needs, and recently worked hard to find a last minute sitter the day before we needed one! Each time a sitter comes to visit, they leave detailed written messages and will even send text updates if you request. Our sitter has done an incredible job taking care of our puppy. It's such a relief knowing our puppy is in good hands when we're gone, even if it's just for the afternoon or evening. The sitters were reliable and took good care of the pets. Melissa was the most disorganized person I've had to deal with. If you booked overnights for a trip, she would always book the wrong dates, no matter how crystal clear you were. Then she got a new system and lost all of our care instructions so that the sitters had the wrong code to the lockbox and were unaware we had a pet they had taken care of multiple times before. We gave them return business because the sitters did a good job and the price was right. Then we hired an au pair to live with us and take care of the kids while at work. Legally, she is not obligated to take care of the pets while we are gone. Having someone else in the house while they took care of our pets was too big of an issue for them and melissa told us they wouldn't watch our pets anymore. If you use A Pets Best Friend, your pets will be taken care of, but Melissa is disorganized and inflexible. read more
