We were interested in changing them out for motorized shades and Rommel came out to our home for the consultation. He explained that the original cellular shades could not be retro-fitted to be motorized, so we would have to buy new sets. No problem - and totally understandable! Rommel was very patient and thorough with his explanation of why and working with us to understand our project. We ended up purchasing four sets of shades for our primary bedroom to cover two large windows with a two-layer, motorized system of black-out and light-filtering cellular shades. Rommel's installation team (Rene and Martin) were amazing - super fast, diligent, and competent! They also moved the original set of cellular shades we had to our living room, which meant we didn't lose them after all! They also updated the cord pulls for the original set, which we appreciated. The motorized shades have been such a wonderful addition to our master bedroom! We love the total darkness it provides for sleeping in -- and the automatic scheduler to lower / raise the shades as well has proven very convenient. We are VERY pleased with this upgrade. Overall, JMK Shutters offers a comprehensive, customer-first experience. Their team is knowledgeable, competent, and on-time. I always saw the Custom Creations storefront driving down El Camino but then my best friend used them for her new construction home a few months ago (she was referred to Custom Creations by her builder). Her wood blinds and shutters look fantastic so of course I emailed Nick too. He was patient, had great advice, and was SO meticulous about every detail that we knew we could trust him. He helped us pick colors, took measurements, and a few weeks later the custom shades arrived! John came to install our blinds and we were also jazzed by his meticulousness. Then at the HMB Pumpkin Festival this past October Bay Home & Window had a booth. We stopped, talked, and make an appointment for a consultant to come out. After a scheduling delay due to overbooking at the Festival we got an appointment. On the day of the appointment the window designer Sarah was on time. Based on our needs she made recommendations which we concurred with. Measurements were taken and an order was placed. We paid 1/2 advance. Over the next two month projected timeframe we received email updates. When our product arrived to the warehouse we received a call for installation date. The place is small, but they have lots of samples inside the showroom. The lady who runs the place is efficient and knows her products. Tons of sample books but frankly, too much info for me. Since I already had blinds from CD from years ago, the lady gave me her sample book so I could match the color and style of what I already have. Ordered the stuff and I installed it on a weekend. I am not sure if they r cheaper of Costco, but Costco won't have the person to person service that Consumer Shades offers.

Somethings I wish I would have known in 2021/2022 when we had the Hunter Douglas auto shades…read moreinstalled with Rebarts. 1. Only Rebarts can come out and fix them after installation - it is a 150.00 "site visit fee" every time they need to come look at them if a motor breaks, etc. In addition to the fee to actually fix the shade. 2. Make sure they are measured exact, examine every shade before it goes in. Look for frayed sides, weird angles, and verify every shade goes up and down with no issues multiple times before you let anyone leave. One of the motors was not working properly when it arrived, instead of allowing them to install and wait for a new one I should have rejected the order and waited for it to be fixed. It took a LOT of back and forth and time to get things fixed properly - it was not a great experience. 3. The motors can be unreliable - YouTube videos to help with rebalancing etc. aren't really helpful, so you end up having to pay the $150.00 fee + any fix costs once a year or so to get someone out to fix them. - Budget for this. ** (I'm actually waiting to schedule someone to come out now because one of our major room shades just stopped working)** 4. Everyone is really nice, they look nice, and I like the auto timer feature! 5. if you have kids, make sure the area around the blinds is clear before opening and closing! If we change things up in a few years, I don't think I will go with the same type, but they are nice for now.

We used Bay Area Window for four skylight shades…read more Design (Aleksandra): 5/5 Aleksandra was communicative and responsive throughout the process. She provided meaningful options and we are happy with the design. We discussed with Aleksandra that we wanted the shades installed as close to our skylights as possible, and she confirmed with the installer that that was possible. Install (David): 2/5 We did a walkthrough with David and again explained that we wanted the shades as close to our skylights as possible. He asked, and we told him, that we also wanted the solar recharging panels to be on the side where the shade collected when opened (so the panels would be less visible). To be fair, David warned us that he would likely scratch the walls and may leave gaps because the coverage around our skylights was uneven. Both of those came to pass (which I am separately fixing), but that is not why we are unhappy with the install. Rather: - Despite the fact our ceiling is flat and our skylights are flat, David installed the shades at a slight angle. When I confronted him about it, he stated he was trying to follow the wall around the skylight. I disagree that his approach accomplished that. In any event, if there were options as to how the shades were going to be installed, we believe David should have conferred with us before unilaterally making a decision. - David also installed the solar panels on the opposite side of where we discussed. David stated he had no recollection of our prior conversation. We disagree that we never discussed this, but as above, if there were options, we believe David should have checked with us before installing. After confronting David about the shade with the most severe angle he begrudgingly reinstalled it (photos attached). Aleksandra did offer a partial refund and offered to have David come back out and reinstall the shade. However, we do not have the availability to monitor David the entire time he is here, which appears to be the only way to ensure things are done as we discussed. Additionally, the 3 of the 4 corner covers have fallen from the shade that David reinstalled and we do not relish the same thing happening to the other shades. The upshot is Aleksandra is easy to work with, but if you get David to do your install you may want to supervise his work.

Aleksandra was great. It was easy to set up an appointment with her, was punctual, she was very knowledgeable about providing options for us, very professional, and gave us a very competitive quote. Tony removed the drapes in our family room and came back later to install the new/relined drapes. He obviously has a lot of experience with this, worked very quickly, and was also very professional. Most importantly we are very happy with the result.
