What makes it special is watching the pastries being handmade right in front of you, which adds a level of freshness and craftsmanship that you can actually taste. The service was super fast and friendly. The pastel de nata came out perfectly, with that delicate flaky crust and warm custard that just hits differently when you know it was made moments ago. The espresso was equally impressive, rich and smooth, and the two together make for a simple but near perfect combination. If you are in the area, this is an easy and very satisfying stop.

The crust was super flaky and the tart was nice and warm out of the oven, but I didn't like the flavor of the custard. I did forget to add cinnamon to the top, but I don't think it would have helped me personally. The woman who stood next to me at the counter had a nearly orgasmic experience next to me, so it's obvious that my taste buds are apparently off. I loved the patience of the server, who got confused when I told her I wanted to eat in but wanted to take water to go. Note to self...Portuguese folks want to have their "to go" as "takeaway." What I also didn't know was that there was no place to sit!! I scooted down the counter just like all the other folks to watch the bakers prep the next gozillion pastries for the day. That was interesting. Then, I didn't know how to bus my dishes. I just left them on the counter like all the other folks and went away. I wouldn't skip going because of my personal taste buds, though. Enjoy it for yourself and let me know if you have a different opinion than I did!

We had reservations for a party of 2 on a Saturday at 6 PM. When you check in, they give you a slip of paper which has a QR code on it for you to access the menu later, and we were promptly seated upstairs. The menu is conveniently available in several languages (you select your language at the bottom of the main menu page). We were at a long table for 6, with us sitting on the inside and another couple sitting at the end, and the table settings in between us were cleared, so it didn't feel like we were on top of one another. I appreciated that the server gave recommendations that would be good for two people. We went with most of his recommendations (shrimps on garlic sauce (it's labeled as spicy, but it's really not), clams on garlic, tiger prawns grilled on bed of salt) and added some of our own (razor clams and lobster roll). All the seafood tasted fresh, bursting with flavor from the buttery garlic sauce, which we sopped up with garlic bread. The bread is brought to the table when you first get seated. It's not free, which I was aware of, but I knew it would go well with the dishes we ordered. The razor clams were juicy and sweet. The lobster roll was good, but not something I would order again when there's so many other fantastic seafood choices. I usually don't drink beer, but felt that it was appropriate since we were at a cervejaria, so I ordered a bottle of Sagres Bohemia. It went perfectly with the seafood. My SO, who doesn't drink alcohol, got peach iced tea. I wanted to get the prego sandwich for dessert, but my SO was pretty much full at that point, so I ordered a tarte whisky and a cappuccino for myself. The whisky ice cream layer in the tarte was nice and refreshing. I was shocked when we got the bill and it came out to less than 50€. This meal would have cost so much more in the US. You pay via tablet at the end and I left a generous tip in appreciation of the wonderful meal and service. They get you in and out of there quick, but it never felt like we were being rushed out. I highly recommend this spot if you are looking for some fresh, delicious seafood in Lisbon.

You check in and then they ask you wait in their waiting area next door which looks a little bare and the outside patio seems like a smoking area. After we were called, we walked upstairs to a brightly-lit dining room. Lots of serving staff and all very friendly. Their menu is extensive and it's great they have photos too! My favorites had to be the giant tiger prawn, razor clams, and the crab head, but everything was tasted good and the seafood tasted fresh. Would recommend!

October 16, 2023. Monday. Dinner…read more I made reservations for this restaurant a week in advance. We waited about five minutes to be seated and the restaurant was packed. My wife and I visited here to try the cod, which Portugal is known for. This restaurant is known as the king of cod (O Rei do Bacalhau), so we knew it would be great. Inside, the restaurant has cod artwork and has cloth tablecloths. A fancy, fine dining restaurant that requires some nicer clothing. They sat us in the lower level, which had lots of patrons. The waiter spoke English and Portuguese and offered us a wine list. However, we ordered gasless water (3.80 euros). We also ordered 2 Pastel Bacalhau appetizers (3.90 euros), Moqueca Bacalhau (22.50 euros) and Bacalhau Coroado (23 euros). The Pastel Bacalhau is shredded cod mixed with potato dough and fried. The waiter told us the chef came from Brazil. My wife said that was why the food had perfect seasoning and tasted so good. Moqueca is a Mozambique dish made from cod, palm oil, mandioca root, tomato, coconut milk and shrimp. Think of a soup. The Coroado (crowned) cod features shrimp, bechamel sauce and baked shredded potatoes. Of the two main dishes we shared, I preferred the Coroado more. The cod tasted fresh and flaky and potatoes were velvety. The waiter served us quickly and the restaurant had a great selection of cod. I'm sure any cod dish ordered here would be great. Be sure to make reservations in advance as this place really filled up for dinner. For being a fine dining restaurant, it wasn't as expensive as other restaurants we visited in Portugal. I'd visit here again because the cod tasted so divine.
