While I was looking to work with a staffing agency about 2-3 months ago, I came across this agency and thought it was a good idea to give them a try. I inquired about a job and got a call for a zoom interview, then I was given 2 tests to complete but the link was only letting me access to one so I reached out to the recruiter about it and told her that so had completed one out of the two and sent her screenshots of the error I received while trying to do the second test and she replied back very promptly and informed me that she had sent another link for the test and so I finally get that test done and informed the recruiter and I get an email from her saying "Thank you" So I assumed that they would get back to me. I tried calling them multiple times but nobody ever answered the phones. 10+ days go by and I'm calling but nobody ever answered or returned the calls so I proceeded to email a follow up after that since I wasn't getting anywhere and Woow! Weeks after I finally hear back with the classic "we don't have anything that fits your skill set" SO THEN WHY EVEN TALK ABOUT A POSITION THAT YOU WERE NOT EVEN GOING TO PRESENT ME FOR??? So unprofessional! They need to figure out their stuff because why even try to help others when your office and staff isn't working properly. Other than the one Express office in Camino del rio this is the second office that just doesn't produce good outcomes. While I am not a fan of temp agencies, and having had a background as a recruiter, I do know the difficulty of filling positions and sourcing candidates. I'm not sure how I stumbled upon A-Star originally, but I recently was converted and hired on by the company I was on an assignment after about 6 months. I thoroughly enjoy the work I do and where I work, and I am grateful for the placement. Amanda was a phenomenal recruiter for myself. I did try referring a few people, but they were unsuccessful in finding any opportunities. I did feel that the follow up in communication lacked a little. And seemed like I could never get in contact with my recruiter directly when calling the office and had to leave messages for a call back. Sometimes it's nice to be transferred and speak directly quicker as most of the time I was on my lunch and the hours were the same as A-Stars office hours. Overall, A Star served its purpose of placing me, a great candidate with a great opportunity! And for that thank you all at A-Star. After months of struggling to find a good job on my own, I was referred to A-Star by a friend. He had a very positive experience with Amanda years ago and encouraged me to connect with her. I was a little hesitant about working with a staffing agency but decided to give it a try, and I'm glad I did. Amanda was very responsive, caring, and positive throughout my job search journey. We set up a Zoom call and had a discussion of what I was looking for. She provided a couple of options that fit my job goals and desires. She set up some interviews, and I was offered a temp job with a company. I had a very positive experience with them, but unfortunately, I was laid off after a few weeks. I have been trying to get in phone contact with a recruiter from this staffing agency for three weeks now...have batted zero conversations with a staffing specialist as of today (3/12/18). Emails from A-Star staffing received after my follow up emails and phone calls to them state that they will let the placement staff know that I am very interested in getting the process moving forward. Everyone I communicated with at A-Star has been great from the beginning to end, especially Amanda. I was originally placed in a Temp-hire position with a great company but ultimately I ended up not feeling like it was the right fit for me, Amanda was great through that process, and did not stop working with me because of it. To start, I have to say that A-Star staffing is a great agency to find a job that's the right fit for you. They match you with prospective assignments based on your education, skill-set, interests, and preferred career path. I highly recommend finding temp employment through A-Star because for 1, short-term temporary assignments give you the opportunity to explore different positions and companies without committing to a permanent position straight away, and 2, A-star temporary assignments are a great way to get your "in" with great companies that recognize and reward hard work. Though an assignment may start out temporary in nature, there's always a chance for full-time employment. I've had 2 assignments through A-star Staffing, both of which were either temp-to-hire or strictly temporary in nature. I've been lucky enough to receive full-time offers on both assignments matched by A-Star. The 2nd of which happens to be my current position that I couldn't be happier in. The ladies at A-star Staffing are all class acts and conduct themselves professionally, while at the same time make you feel welcome and well informed in regards to your assignments. As far as a staffing agency goes, A-Star is by far the superior staffing company of San Diego. Not only are they incredibly helpful and prompt at placing you, they also add the personal touch in checking in with you from time to time once you have been placed to ensure that you are happy with your position. I have been helped by both Emily and Amanda and they are both wonderful! I can say hands down that they are the superior staffing agency, because I have dealt with many others in San Diego, all without any luck. You go in, waste your time taking all of the redundant and mundane tests and then get a promise to hear back from them and then are never contacted again. This will never be the case with A-Star. Honestly, I am shocked at the reviews for A-Star Staffing. Shocked. Two months ago, my fiance and I submitted resumes and cover letters through the website's suggested email address. We assumed it would take around 24-72 hours for a response, but after a week, I emailed again to make sure our resumes were received, and followed up with a phone call, just in case. The woman who answered the phone, although polite, was completely unhelpful. She couldn't find our resumes, and suggested we re-send them. I asked if there was a way we could bring them to her in-person, as we live in Hillcrest and their office is apparently just down the road in Mission Valley. Alas no, we would have to re-send them, and we were assured that a confirmation email would be sent. So, I played along. I re-sent mine and The Boy re-sent his. Four days later, still nothing. We decided to try and stop in, to be proactive and talk to someone in-person. Unfortunately, navigating the endless office suites along Camino del Rio South is a tricky endeavor, so The Boy called the office to ask for specific directions. Another woman, possibly the same as before, informed us that we would not be permitted to walk in without an appointment. The Boy tried to make an appointment, and was told that he should send in his resume via email before attempting to do so. Ignoring my overwhelming sense of deja vu, which was now giving way to an extreme sense of frustration, we turned around, went home, and I called A-Star myself. This time, I informed the person on the phone of our situation, the fact that we had sent our resumes in *twice* and had now called *three times* to try and set something up, and I was promptly put on hold for seven minutes. I counted. Seven. Minutes. When someone finally came back on the line, I was asked a series of questions and told that I would be receiving a call "soon." You can probably assume how often I've heard from them, but just in case you're unsure, the answer is "never." I called back three weeks after speaking to someone, and I was told to--you guessed it--send in my resume, again, and make an appointment. Look, I want to support a woman-owned business, and I want to support a local business, but this was an exercise in futility and a prime example of how NOT to treat a potential client. I gave up. I applied to a job ad from Craigslist and was contacted back by this agency (fall 2013). I was interviewed over the phone and in person very quickly with the agency, and then again with the client company. I was hired right away and started working in a matter of weeks. They do send emails to check in on you, which is great, makes you feel cared for, but the reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because they really don't care about you at all. Three months into my job I contacted them to tell them I was very unhappy and wanted to be placed elsewhere. I sent them weekly emails for about 3 more months asking for a different job and they always replied saying that there was nothing available or anything they could do about it. One morning I woke up and sent them an email saying I was not going to work that day, or ever again, and of course they start calling me and emailing me like crazy asking why... After that, they were very rude over the phone, obviously, they stopped making money off of me. In case you're wondering, it was a call center job. Not once did they mention it was a call center, them or the client company, and I was too naive to ask (lesson learned!). read more

I have used A-Star to acquire 8 temporary employees and for all those where positions became available, we made the decision to hire them - they handpick the best! Amanda and Diana are very professional and friendly and work hard to take care of all the details so you don't have to worry. They listened to my needs and found me who I needed. I've been in a few tough spots and called Amanda at 3pm and had someone in my office at 8am the next day. My interaction with other members of their staff has also been pleasant. Once I had an interview and came in to meet with Diana, I had a job within THREE WEEKS getting paid $13/hr. Whatever you think, $13/hr is great pay for a starting job. I had never previously used the services of a staffing agency before A-Star and was therefore a bit skeptical. I shouldn't have been! I found A-Star Staffing though an ad on Craigslist, I e-mailed them my resume, and soon, I had already been contacted by Amanda to schedule an interview. As soon as I entered A-Star's office I was amazed by the genuine care that was given to me on a personal basis. All of the staff was marvelous and treated me like an individual. Any anxiety I had going into A-Star dissolved when I met Amanda and later Diana. The very next day, I was already scheduled for a job interview. If you are capable and a responsible person but are anxious for whatever reason and hesitating on sending your resume to A-Star, don't be! Believe me when I say that A-Star will make what would be the stressful transition of finding a new job an easy and comfortable experience.
