    Dirty kiln damaged pottery.
    E C.

The girl working was indifferent and unhelpful. We had never been there before, she didn't show us the materials, provide any tips or direction whatsoever. We selected 3 little pieces, paid $78 (complete rip off), she processed our payment, and she turned and walked away from the counter. No direction or help at all. We looked at each other, like where's the paint, paint brushes, sponges, water buckets...? When we asked questions we were given short answers and nothing more. When we came to pick up the pottery, we noticed that two of the three pieces had black dirt specks and lint stuck under the glaze. One piece wasn't so bad, but the other was ruined. I showed the girl working there, fully expecting to be able to paint another one as this one was clearly ruined, instead she got irritated with us, shrugged her shoulders and said "it happens." "It's art, so there will be imperfections." But there's dirt and debris trapped under the glaze, it's not art, it was damaged in the kiln. "We don't guarantee that won't happen, it's art, it happens." I reminded her how much we paid for this experience (nearly $80), and that we shouldn't have to keep a piece that was damaged in the store after we left. She was rude, dismissive and completely disrespectful. She nodded "No, you must have done this." I said we are not coming back and she responded: "That's okay, this place isn't for everyone" and she walked away. Terrible experience.

Cute plate in the window - good inspiration !

A full service pottery shop, customers have the option to paint ready-made pottery, use a pottery wheel to craft a piece from scratch, or really get hands-on and use your hands to mold your own beautiful work of art. At the Yelp New Jersey Elite event, the hand building class was quite an experience where the friendly owners and staff showed us how to take a ball of clay and using pinch pot form, style it into a bowl. Once the bowl shape took form, we embellished the clay with molds to add design elements. I loved the paw print mold! The staff was very helpful to assist and made sure the art was sturdy and ready for the oven. We got to pick what color we wanted and the staff will paint it later. Pieces are usually ready 3-4 weeks after your visit, so it is a great reason to come back to the area to pick up the finished art. I loved to learn the location is dog friendly, as long as your dog is well-behaved. Since the experience requires full attention and is hands-on, being in control of your pup is extra important. There was a doggie guest there during my visit and was a perfect pup. Blue Skies Pottery also hosts events and collaborates with local businesses including hosting a paw print ornament workshop with the pet store next door. Thanks to Katarina for planning this event and to the owners Valerie & Jordan for welcoming us! Nimra & Andrew were helpful staff members and supportive of all the creativity. In addition to Long Branch, they also have a store in Hoboken!

Very disappointing experience. My daughter and her friend started hand-painted ceramic projects…read morehere in September while both were dealing with school and work schedules. They returned in October, November, and December as their schedules allowed to continue working on the projects. During those visits, they explained multiple times that there may be gaps before they could finish and pick up the pieces. They were under the impression this was understood and that holding the items would not be an issue. Now that their schedules finally allowed them to go back, I drove my daughter over to pick up the pieces, only for her to be told they no longer had them and that they had been thrown out. She was then told they only hold items for 40 days. That was not clearly communicated to her, especially considering they had specifically discussed their school and work schedule situation during prior visits. What made it worse was the response. When my daughter asked why no one called before throwing away paid customer projects, she was told they "do not call you guys." When she said she had spent a lot of money, the employee responded that it was "$40" in a dismissive way, as if that amount did not matter. To my daughter, that money mattered. More importantly, the project mattered. These were hand-painted ceramic pieces made by two friends during a busy and important time in their lives. You cannot recreate that exact item or that exact memory. It was not just pottery -- it was something personal. My daughter left very upset and almost in tears. I understand businesses need policies, but a strict 40-day hold policy should be made very clear, especially when customers explain ahead of time that school and work may delay pickup. A simple phone call, text, or email before discarding paid projects would have avoided this entire situation. I also do not understand how a studio that serves students and families can expect someone attending any type of school, including college away from home, to always be able to return within 40 days. If that is the policy, it needs to be clearly stated upfront and repeated before items are discarded. Very disappointed in how this was handled.

We got to choose between a mug, bowl, or plate but you can modify the exact shape or depth and they help you do that! We were there for about two hours and it was plenty of time to make our pottery and paint. Definitely search up some ideas or a Pinterest board for inspiration beforehand since we all spent so long there trying to decide.

I chose this studio…read morebecause I wanted to try out pottery making first with a one day experience ( use the wheel with their expert guidance, create a finished piece and paint the piece). I loved my process during the one day wheel experience and decided to take their 4 week wheel classes. I mostly learned from their staff Danielle and she was an excellent teacher! One day wheel experience - $48 per person - perfect friend hangout or date activity! - make 1 piece on the wheel with expert staff guidance with options to make 1 more piece on your own - paint your piece with engobes paint and pick up your piece after a few weeks! 4 week classes - $200 total- such a good deal! Weekly 1 hr classes that includes all supplies, glazes and firing - make atleast 2 pieces depending on how your skills progress throughout the classes. I made 6 pieces but only took home 4! - I was a beginner so Danielle focused on throwing cylinders. However I wish there could be more variety in throwing different shapes- like a bowl - I learned so much from each class from wedging clay, centering, making even walls, trimming, making and attaching handles I loved my experience here and I'll be back to utilize their studio space for wheel throwing as well as glaze some of their premade pieces
