I really wanted to have a positive experience with Prestige Concrete Edging, but unfortunately,…read moretheir business practices have been incredibly disappointing and, in my opinion, deceitful. To give you an idea of the situation: imagine budgeting $16k for a project. You meet with them, they walk the site, review the plans, and enthusiastically agree to the price to "earn your business." However, two weeks after signing the contract and handing over a deposit, they suddenly claimed the project would now cost $29K. My key Issues: Bait-and-Switch Pricing: The final quote was more than double the original agreed-upon price with vague and VERY inconsistent reasoning. Vanishing Deposit: When I chose to cancel due to the massive price hike, they claimed my entire deposit had already been "used up" on excavation. Lack of Integrity: They committed to a budget just to get the signature, only to move the goalposts immediately after. We are currently pursuing legal action to address these practices. This company is simply not worth the stress or the financial risk. I met many reputable masonry and concrete companies during my bidding phase--I strongly suggest you look elsewhere, you've been warned.

Their employees painted around parked cars at the school I work for without communicating to anyone…read morethat they would be painting that day/time. When I found white paint and scratches to my car's paint and chipping to my windshield from the blower machine they use before painting, I immediately informed my associate principal who called for a supervisor to come over and speak with us. In total, three employees of the school had damages to their vehicles. The supervisor was incredibly rude and dismissive about the entire situation and even said to me "if you're just looking to get a free car wash out of this, I'll pay to get you one." I'm extremely disgusted by the entire company's lack of professionalism from top to bottom. I was put in contact with a gentleman named David Darden who is slow to respond, if he responds at all. He does not fully address issues and does not provide any follow through or resolution. I contacted Henrico PD to get an incident # for the situation and had my school pull the video footage of the incident since I park in line with the school cameras. I provided more than 80 photos of the damages to Mr. Darden along with the incident #, but at the time, I was waiting for the footage. He advised me to get an estimate for the damages, which I got three of. I also offered to get additional estimates from other auto shops if they had one they preferred. I was told that would not be necessary. Eventually, I was contacted ONCE by a woman named Tanja Szardenings from Gallagher Bassett stating she was their insurance representative. She said she was only provided with two of the three estimates from Mr. Darden and none of the pictures. I tried sending her the pictures myself, but her email address does not allow for files over a certain size. Because of this issue, I am unable to send her all of the photos or the video. I have emailed her numerous times and left dozens of voice mail messages for her asking to return my call. What irritates me the most about the entire situation is that their employees painted around teachers' car without any regard for their vehicles.... but the employees did not paint around the contractors' vehicles in the same lot. They had courteous and respect for them but not for us. We would have gladly moved out vehicles for the company if they had informed us.

Custom Concrete does amazing work. I have a pretty big driveway and they finished it in three days,…read moreon time and mostly on budget, there was a small issue with the concrete company not communicating an increase in prices but Juan, the owner, gave me a discount on the labor which he didn't have to do. His crew works HARD. I was really impressed with their professionalism and skill. Juan was always available and provided great feedback for any questions I had and I trusted his judgement with great results. I told him my driveway looked so good I needed a nicer house to go with it. They've done several driveways in the neighborhood and when I talked to the owners about their experience with the company they only had good things to say. I will be calling them again in the future for additional work around my house. Highly recommend.

July 15, 2024 If you are looking for a business where the…read morecustomer is not right, the owner has no patience and no interest in your feedback, and quality is not a concern, Custom Concrete & Masonry is the business for you. We know this is wordy, but worth the read and will save you some money, we promise. On June 7th and 8th, we hired Custom Concrete & Masonry to replace our stamped concrete sidewalk which was 26 years old and had started to crack. We reviewed photos on the Facebook page, looked at photos the owner Julio sent, and after receiving several quotes, hired him. Demo went as expected. The forms for the new sidewalk were placed and approved by us. The concrete truck was several hours late. As the sidewalk was poured, we noticed that there were very noticeable lines being placed through the concrete. We asked Julio about the lines, and he explained they were expansion joints and were necessary. On three separate occasions that day, and even during the stamping process (where the design is put into the concrete), we voiced concern that these giant lines detracted from the look of the sidewalk and design. Julio assured us that once he was finished, we would barely notice them. When they left our home 12 hours later, we sat on our porch and stared at our new $4,000 sidewalk agreeing that we hated it. We called Julio and for the 4th time, explained we were not happy. He said once he placed the seal on it, we would not notice the lines as much. He said the expansion joints were necessary and he could do nothing about the lines. Even when I had asked earlier if there was a way to incorporate the expansion joints in a less visible manner, he said no in a very condescending manner. He kept saying that we didn't understand the need for expansion joints. Which we assured him we did. It is worth mentioning at this point that my husband is an engineer. He understands structure and stability. The following morning, the crew showed up to finalize cleaning and to seal. This did not include removal of cigarette butts from our yard and driveway. We attempted to have another discussion with Julio in a very adult, mature fashion. All he kept saying was that he had no patience for this and wanted his money so he could leave. After trying to have a proactive conversation for 10 minutes, we gave up. We paid this man for something we hated. Our concerns fell on deaf ears. It goes without saying that the seal did not enhance the look. We have a lot of foot traffic at our home. Many people were shocked by how ugly the sidewalk was and the 4" drop left on the edge was hazardous to say the least. Your sidewalk is one of the first impressions people have of your home and reflects on you and your home. My husband and I mutually agreed this was not something we could live with for another 20 plus years. We started looking for a company who would do the sidewalk in a way we would love. Since we are not concrete experts, our first question was about these lines that had been placed throughout the stamped design. Yes, we understand the need for expansion joints. But do they need to interfere with the beauty of the sidewalk? Enter Castaneda Concrete. We were told immediately by Axel that the expansion joints should have been incorporated into the design. And that the drop that was left would not be something he would consider acceptable. A leap of faith. We paid the money again to receive a product we love, receive compliments on, and we felt heard and important. We think you will agree when you view the photos that the first job was not anywhere close to the quality of the second job. Save yourselves a couple of thousand dollars and hire the right company (we recommend Castaneda Concrete unequivocally). It is not Custom Concrete & Masonry. And Julio, as I told you, maybe give up owning a business. It is no place for a man without patience. Or a man who does not care what his customers wishes are.
