Called this shop to check on a gun that I had left for some minor gunsmith work. It was already in the shop for 2 and a half months. this was the first time I called. The kid who answered the phone has basically zero customer service skills. He told me that if I did not want to wait any more to come pick up the gun. On top of that the called me dude, bad move sonny. I will be back to pick up my 1911 tomorrow. read more

Worst experience at a gun shop. Sold us a defective shotgun, action wint won't open. Never fired it, cuz xant open it. Bad barrel locking cam, new from the factory too. They said 20% restocking fee, and we're so uneducated that they refunded 80% of THE WHOLE BILL! I found out the gun I purchased was marked up $100 over others of the same type, when I went in to find out about it, one of the workers started yelling at me saying how are they supposed to keep the door open. He then told me I could cancel my transaction at a 20% fee which was just coincidentally about as much as the mark up. The original person that help me some kind and helpful. The second person seemed as if he'd heard that many times before. He got angry before I even got the entire sentence out of my mouth. Buyer beware check prices before you go. There are many other places in Lake County they have better prices. My fault I should've researched.I would not recommend this business. read more

My experience was a positive one. Not only was the staff friendly but also very knowledgeable in the inventory. I told the gentleman who assisted me in what I was looking for and they had it in stock-this I did not expect due to the nature of the rifle. The prices were fair for ammo as well. Well I've read reviews about this place other than on yelp I didn't believe. But I just experience for 10 minutes the same thing someone else described elsewhere. Entered for the first time. No welcome from either employee that was working g and openly having conversations with the three local patrons. I was never acknowledged during my first and now only visit. I guess if they know you they talk to you. I'm going elsewhere to get my new Walther. Yup they had one of what I want on the shelve. But the lack of interest in even saying hello is sending me down the road. Good luck guys! read more

I grew up shopping at this store. Well not me but I would tag along with my Dad when he went in to shop. The staff has always been nice to me. The selection is smaller than the big boys but still quite nice. I remember one day driving my Dad over to shop. He was looking at guns and I was asking this young sales guy about tasers because I was curious and it was slow. One of the older guys comes over and goes I have known Miss Brycen since she was knee high to a grass hopper and she was raised better than that. (My dad had been shopping with them since I was 8. ) He then continued if I remember right your favorite color is purple and we just got a lovely purple Taurus in stock I need to show you. It seems like a silly story maybe but it just goes to show you they really are customer oriented. I still don't know how he remembered purple was my favorite color. Yet he did. They are really good folks at Peterson's. The place may be a little dark and tight but you don't get that kind of service at the big stores. read more

I am new to the Eustis area, moved here a year ago. I have been visiting another gun store for my needs and only recently found out about AW Petersons. I decided to check it out today. I wasn't greeted when I walked in the door like I was walking into Walmart or Moe's, but frankly, the place had 4 people working and over 15 patrons, my feelings weren't hurt. I was engaged within 5 minutes by staff on two different occasions. Both were willing to help and when I made it evident that I wanted to browse more than be sold to, they were quick to give me space. They have a nice collection of new, used, and classic guns in the store. It is the type of local gun store I grew up in vs. the chains we see popping up lately. Unfortunately they did not have the gun in stock I wanted, but at this time, nobody within 50 miles has it in stock, so I wasn't turned off by that. I will note that we live in a world where everyone wants attention and they want it now. If that is the kind of person you are, this probably isn't the store for you. I never felt ignored, but then again, I don't feel like everyone needs to drop what they are doing to hold my hand either. I will be making this preferred store moving forward. Thanks, LT read more

Not only is Peterson's a funky, old timey shop--and it's over 100 yrs old--everyone there knows more about guns than anyone. They're also nice and chatty. Not only are you going to get the answers to all your questions, get your gun fixed, you're also going to be treated like family. I have an H&R Sportsman in 22LR. It would not close properly so I took it to Peterson's for repair. The man behind the counter didn't seem interested in my business. First he said the gun was old - (I knew that) - so parts are hard to find. I told him I had checked on line and learned that parts were plentiful. Then he said I could leave the gun with them but it would be at least six months before they would even have the time to look at it. I did not leave the gun. Instead, I took it to "The Gun Shop & Gun Range" in Leesburg. They examined the gun and determined that the problem was in the cylinder. The counter man took the cylinder apart, tightened the ejection rod, put it back together, and returned it to me completely repaired and in working order. It took him less time than it has taken me to write this review. He said it was a simple repair so there would be no charge. Guess which gun shop will get my business in the future. read more

I live about twenty miles away, for years I used Peterson's and they were always great, Mr. Howard did super gunsmith work, prices fair. the hardworking owner was always friendly, honest and right on point. Just recently since I do not do gunsmith work and know very little about customizing an AR I took it in. I was introduced to a young man that was helping Mr. Howard due to illnesses. He seemed very helpful, knowledgeable and eager to help. He quoted me on the phone one price and demanded cash for ordering needed parts. I took him the cash, he never supplied me with a written estimate because he did not ever have one ready and I did not have a great deal of time to wait. Once it was read I was called, he was no longer working for them because of some problem the other employees did not want to discuss, they said Mr. Howard was out sick and no one felt comfortable completing the repair bill payment. The following day I returned, that same young man was there again and quickly said it was all a misunderstanding. He rang up my bill and low and behold my bill increased by nearly 35%. Needless to say another misunderstanding, my advice to you is to never use this young man at Peterson's shop for anything in the gunsmith area. All others are great, learn the lesson the hard way as I did and you too will feel the pain. No misunderstanding at all, crooked accounting, the removed and replaced parts were never returned, out even that much more, think hundreds. read more
