I love going A1 Estate Sales. . I Recently went to the one in Hammond last week and 1 in Munster. I do not remember the name of the staff but they were wonderful. The one in Munster, the girl and her father working together were a riot, they made me laugh the whole time I was there. I am not comfortable being around a lot of people and am claustrophobic so my first trip is usually omg i gotta get out of here unless there is something super stunning stand out like big happy 60's flowers vintage. So its nice when the staff makes you feel comfortable and is not pushy or standing over you. They were not like this at all at either sale. In munster I was on my first round couldnt find anything looking around outside and The man noticed my tattoo of my Macaws and said he had one so cool. I like when staff make small talk like that it makes you feel noticed like ok I am here to help you but not pushed. His daughter I talked to when I saw some hangers ok who cant use some hangers, they were not expensive, I talked to her a little bit at first very nice, I felt very comfortable, so I went looking on my second trip found a cute 80's dress and a very needed office chair and some cute 60's aprons. I am more into vintage clothing for the most part or if I really need stuff. I am on a tight budget. They offered me great prices. They made me feel like a friend with the conversation, I actually wanted to stay and talk and go on a 4th and 5th trip to see what else I could find because I didn't want to leave I was having so much of a great time. But I had to get home and I did not want to get in the way. Earlier that week I went to the one in Hammond, I had a lot of stuff going on, but just had that feeling I should go, OK maybe I just needed out of the house, I have been spending a lot of time fixing a floor disaster and working on my buisness I had not had a chance to go hunting for vintage clothing for awhile and i just had that feeling. And I hit the jackpot! When My friend and I got there MIke was actually sitting outside and greeting people, I really should say actually because I see this all the time with Mike from when I was going to his sales last year. I have seen Mike work with people, he certainly has worked with me on my tight budget. I have also heard him negotiate prices with people and make deals for them as well as I have heard staff negotiate with people as well! Mike was helping a lady with an AMAZING 1940's Jukebox when I was on my hunt and man did I find some amazing vintage clothing. I was so happy. Claustrophobia hit as always 4 people in a small bedroom oh good Goddess, I grabbed what I thought I wanted and sorted it out and took majority of it and put it in a bag with a few other things. The really nice staff member with the long blonde hair was working with me and we had started to work out a great deal and talked for a bit so then I looked around more. I like to find things that are useful not just collectables,so thats the fun of these estate sales there always seems to be something for someone whether it is something as a broom and scraps of vintage fabric for a patchwork skirt that I can use, or at one sale in the past I got a dress form, I got lamps, I could go on for days of all the amazing stuff I have gotten. If I would have paid the asking price OMG, I would never have paid like 2 months mortgage on my house. I think its just standard to stick prices on it, I have never once seen someone get turned down on when negotating a lower price. I have walked in to second day sales and heard Mike say come on name your price we want to sell it or something along those lines. I remember my first Estate Sale in 2014 I had just met Mike through a friend of mine who had gotten something and needed to use my van to put it in. I bought a beauitiful 1960's quilt with intentions of tearing it apart to make into a patchwork skirt I had a pleasant experience, the staff was wonderful and nice, I got offered special deals. This company made an impression on me last year and I am still going to these sales. They were there for me when I had very little money and even invited me to their sales to check them out saying they would make me a deal, now I am on my feet and they are still making me the same excellent deals. I really do not want to leave when I go to them I want to spend hours searching for treasures since I know they will offer you deals, all you need to do is ask. read more

Honestly, just stay away from this company. I hired them for an estate sale after my dad passed away. At first, I was impressed with them. They got everything started right away. Then, the weekend of the sale came and was nothing but problems. I met my realtor at the house, who informed me that people working the sale were loading up their cars with items. I also had a police detective that I know come to the sale and tell me the same thing, and that expensive emblems from an old truck we were selling were missing after he had found them earlier that week and placed them with the truck. I asked that everything be itemized, so when I was told people were potentially stealing, I asked for the itemized list. I was informed that Mike (the owner) had never told the workers to itemize anything. I was VERY specific that I wanted an itemized list. I called Mike, who told me not to worry, anyone caught stealing would be fired, and he would reimburse me for the emblems or buy originals for the person who bought the truck. I calmed down after that and felt better. Then someone asks about a trailer we were selling, and one of the workers tells him "sorry, it's sold. Mike is buying it." I was never even offered a price, never told he wanted it, nothing. Then she asks me for a bill of sale. I called Mike again, and he said he had to think about it because we didn't have the title. So we lost a sale there. Also, I was told on a few occasions that we shouldn't sell an item for too little, because Mike will sell it on his "ebay store" and get more for it that way. I have yet to hear back about these items still, and the sale was in November. I also tried to follow the link to the store to check on my items, and it gives me an error message. Later that night, Mike sends me numerous texts saying to call him, he's upset, he needs to talk to me, etc. I was out to dinner with friends, and then went home and fell asleep. I woke up to a voicemail from Mike, saying he was mad because my husband was"running his mouth" and that his staff didn't drive 1.5 hours to get to the house to be berated by my husband. I called him the next day and told him first of all, my husband was nothing but nice and helpful. He helped move furniture downstairs, move items out of the shed, provide security, all things I was paying them to do. Secondly, they knew how far the house was from their business, and I didn't force anyone to come there. He also informed me he wasn't buying the trailer (after the sale was over), so I had to spend more time trying to sell it later. I was asked by several of Mike's associates where they should bring garbage during the sale (which he was supposed to figure out) and I told them that was what I paid them to do. It was a mess. They were hired to do a complete clean out, and afterwards there was so much garbage left I had to pay our contractor for extra cleaning, and rent a dumpster to get rid of everything. The contractor told me the house looked like a "fair ground after a carnival." When we were cleaning things, I also discovered that they damaged the shed in the backyard trying to jimmy the lock open, which we had keys for if they'd have just asked. Sit yourself down and hear our incredible story. Or don't bother and just hire Mike and his company, A1 Estate Sale. You'll be the better for it. I flew in from NYC to help facilitate the emptying of my parent's home. We were on a tight deadline and although we considered having an estate sale on the property, we decided it would be easier to donate much of the house contents (beds, tables, chairs, dishes, outdoor furniture, sporting goods, etc. to Habitat for Humanity (H4H)-- a worthy charity, and we'd get a receipt for the donation for our taxes. But H4H wouldn't take everything, so we arranged for A1 to take the other things-- no receipt for taxes but no hassle for us as he was providing all the labor for the job -- and the house would be emptied. A1 agreed to work together with Habitat for Humanity and take everything else they didn't want. EVERYTHING. The house had sold and needed to be delivered to the new owners without a stitch of anything inside. The first to show up at 10am was Mike and his team of guys. (Spoiler alert: they were the last ones to leave.) But H4H was picking and choosing just a few things, and when it became clear that H4H wouldn't take the beds that they had promised to take, Mike immediately sprung into action and called a friend, who came with her truck to gather what she could for the low-income and disadvantaged senior citizens she cares for. As the day wore on and 10am became noon, which became 2pm and then 4pm, then 6 and 8pm, with multiple truck loads of items being loaded and removed, we worried that not only was the flow of stuff to get rid of not subsiding, but the rate at which we were getting it done would have taken us until 2am to complete. Mike stayed in touch and kept assuring us that every last item would be gone. Ultimately we decided to rent a massive U-Haul to complete the job (which we should have thought of earlier), and got down to the short strokes of a refrigerator, industrial-sized cans of paint, massive cans of garbage and still a few more piles of items that by 10pm we all left with full cars and a promise that he would be back in the morning to take the rest. First though, he contacted another connection, who agreed to drive over and pick up the refrigerator. We took a couple of pictures of the remaining stuff and all left exhausted. True to his word, he came back without our needing to be there and finished the job, then sent us a photo of the garage as clean as a whistle. It was a miracle. There was no way on earth we could have done this job without him and his team. It's that simple. Oh, and did I mention that he's charming, honest, funny, smart, conscientious and good hearted? I could go on and on, but my message is clear. He's a winner. read more

I read the ladies review that had nothing but a negative response to her estate sale and I cannot believe the comments she has claimed. I have had 2 different estate sales with this company and have had nothing but positive results. Yeah some things didn't sell for as much as I wanted but then some items sold for more than I wanted. It all worked out in the end and I was happy with the outcome on both sales. I do plan on using them again and would refer my friends and family to them. I believe it is up to the owner of property to do an inventory of their items and then they know what they have. I also believe if someone wants a specific price for something than a reserve price should have been put on that item from the owner. An estate sale is like an auction and unless it has a reserve then buyers will try and get items as cheap as they can. I know I do when I go to any auction or estate sale. Nothing but 5 stars in my opinion. I know for a fact the owner wouldn't have thieves working for him and would trust them with anything I own. Iv'e known this company to spend money out of their own pockets to make sure a customer was happy even if they had nothing to do with the outcome. Was very appreciative that they were able to fit us in so quickly but didn't like the last minute change to our "two day sale" that went into a one day sale the night before they were supposed to come. The random pricing on items made it odd for people to know how much to offer on things. I saw a $14 price for a yoga ball that was worth $4 and $7 on so many things that were so far off on pricing... and many items that were priced by the employees were for more money than the stickers that were on many items from the store we bought them from. Not sure there was any rhyme or reason to pricing but they got that part of the job with their sticker guns done fast. Also didn't like not having a list of things that sold so that at the end we could've looked at how much should've been collected and then divided up the money. Didn't care for customers finding the employees that were running around with an apron with cash and not a designated checkout table. Would've like some kind of floor protection put down as the carpets were so trashed that I had to spend over $280 to have cleaned before we could close on the house. A1 Estate Sales run the best sales in the area. I always look for A1 sales when planning my shopping day. Their pricing is reasonable. The staff is friendly and helpful to buyers. The owner of the company introduced himself and gave me his card at my first sale. The staff are REAL people, not stuffed shirts. Looking at things from a seller's view, I would hire this company because they actually make an effort to sell your items - they don't overprice everything and still have it sitting in your house at the end of the sale! Reading other reviews I have advice for those who hire A1 or any other estate liquidation company - stay away from the sale on sale days and let the company do their job. The worst sales are the ones where the home owners or family members are hanging around making you feel bad about buying anything because you can see they hate to let it go. A1 Estate Sale is a company that I will never forget!! They really came through in my family's time off need. Mike and his team do an incredible job!! Easy to schedule (even last minute). From the set up to the cleanup all tasks were performed in a professional manner. The A1 team went above and beyond when setting up, pricing and advertising my sale. We had customers from open to close and they even stayed late for last minute shoppers. A1 did not mind me being there when other companies would not allow me to stay. I used A1 a few years ago due to a family emergency. I personally had to travel from Arkansas several times to handle everything. I had never looked into having an estate sale before, so I was a little hesitant. When I first met Mike and Vicki, I knew that's who I wanted to go with. I couldn't have asked for a better team of people in my life. They were knowledgeable about different items and if they weren't sure they did their research. It's taken a while to finally write a review and show my gratitude, - should've done it sooner.! In a hectic and sad time in our lives, A-1 took care of everything so well. Mike and everyone were extremely helpful and had great attention to detail. They exceeded our expectations. It's never easy to handle a large, full home after a loved one passes, but A-1 were just down-to-earth, friendly people who worked efficiently and helped us get the property ready and sold. I am so happy with this place. Understand I'm an elderly man and when I moved into the nursing home I couldn't get rid of all my stuff so I hired Mike to do it for me and he did a great job selling everything. While he was there my cat was going into a seizure I didn't know what to do and Mike somehow was holding my cat's tongue and trying to get it to breathe again he wound up saving my cat's life he brought him to the vet and the vet told me if we didn't get that cat there as fast as we did I would have lost my Ringo. he's my only friend since I lost my poor wife these people are amazing I couldn't be happier. read more

I have used A 1 Estate sale for my home. They were a blessing. We had thousands of items and we needed alot of help. Their employees were amazing. We appreciated how they treated us and our customers. We love their hard work and attitude. They saved me from hoarding issues. I would recommend ANYONE to use this company. I have just recently started about a year ago attending Estate Sales and A1 has been my favorite company. Mike is the biggest asshole ever! He is consistently robbing people taking things that don't belong to him. He is a dick to his employees some of them use drugs while cleaning out houses. He is very sexist and very perverted. He over prices everything so nothing will be sold. And he is very lazy and isn't motivated to clean out the house he takes very long time and doesn't keep in touch with clients Go somewhere else!!!! read more

When my parents passed away, I had a hard time finding someone to take care of their rather remote cottage. Vicky and Mike were absolutely a Godsend - they explained that it was not a good location for a typical estate sale, and that a clean-out would be a better option for us. Went to one of Mike's sales yesterday. This was my first estate sale and Mike was fabulous and prices were wonderful. He went out of his way for me and help me load things in my car at no charge. He's very friendly and has a wonderful personality/sense of humor. I enjoyed my visit and will definitely attend more of his sales. read more
